I have been out if high school for 4 years and have not used algebra or biology.

Edited by McKitten Man: 3/30/2016 9:59:20 PMPeople don't use these classes if they never went to post secondary, any career related to health, you need biology and will be using it every day for your job. Algebra is used for pretty much any sort of science, engineering, accounting -blam!-ing every career. So if your working at Walmart then no you do not need to know the human anatomy or complex math.
-
Algebra is actually useful for budgeting
-
Why do people complain about having to take these classes? They are so easy and getting anything but an A+ in any of these is inexcusable. Worst case scenario is you do it for maybe 7 years of school and you're done. If people actually wanted to learn how to "live life" in school and learn how to do taxes, they should learn how to do at home with their own free time and stop complaining.

13 RepliesEdited by The Cellar Door: 3/28/2016 9:24:30 PMThe only people who complain about either course are those who don't understand it well enough to apply it in real life situations. Algebra is needed to understand calculus, and calculus is vital to understanding the world around you. The fact that you can graduate high school in the US without ever taking a course in calculus is a damn shame.

Look at a tree. What color do you see? Biology bitch

8 RepliesAwww looks like we have a freshman who is too stupid to pass Algebra or Biology

1 ReplyHigh School should be built around what you want to do in the future. Whats the point of learning things like Dissection and Calculus if you're going into something like ICT?
-
This is why common core is so bad…
-
In my opinion, high school should be more about teaching how to live independently. Leave all those kind of classes for college where it actually matters whether you take it or not. You should teach some more basic stuff of important subjects, but -blam!-ing AP chemistry? No one needs that shit right now.

The last option. I actually have a class all about that stuff. It was optional, but it's still there. Rather that make us do algebra, they should teach us that. Other things in school that I think are good to know are history and english (or whatever language you speak). But I can't really see the point in any of the others unless you pursue a career that specifically requires them.

2 RepliesOur educational system is supposedly set up in a way as follows: Math: To logically interpret situations where you develop concepts that will help you in your latter years Social development: (learning about environment, how people think, social interaction etc) To develop a sense of self importance but to educate our minds about the importance of working together and develop a collective conscience. Science: To develop an understanding of the infrastructure and early development of our surroundings and interpret plausible methods of examination. English: To engage in thoughtful discussion, to develop a sense of fortitude and create a sense of why not how. This is what I have come to understand, and what I've been told lol

School is supposed to give you the tools you need to figure how to live life on your own.

Whoever said yes to algebra is a self inflicted idiot. Unless they're engineers and shit, no. Piss off.
-
Biology is very useful... knowing exactly how nerves work, how the brain interprets various sensory inputs, learning how the brain can enhance certain sensory inputs when they're anticipated... sound boring? If you learn these things it will make you better in bed with your girlfriend/boyfriend/husband/wife =p

3 RepliesFinancial help is needed in this horrid state of the world. More specifically, America.
On a side note.. Metric system America. -blam!-ing. Use. It.
