When Bungie first announced that players would no longer be spawning into 3v3 matches with special ammo, I was actually kind of excited about that. I'm a mediocre sniper at best, so I was happy to hear the game might be tilted slightly in my favor.
But after playing Trials for a couple of weeks, I hate it.
Honestly, it's not so bad in Skirmish or Salvage. People tend to use primary weapons more often in those game modes anyway. But in Trials, your life is so much more valuable, so you will do anything to get an edge to make your opponent die first. There is no respawn to help you regroup and adapt. It's cut throat, and I like that. But you need special weapons (and ammo) to compete.
Right now the problem with Trials is twofold.
(1) Limiting special ammo has turned Trials into a game of momentum. If you get slaughtered on the first round before you can pick up special, there is a good chance you may never have special ammo for the rest of the match. Before you could come back in the second round with a new strategy, now if you're down 0-1, you're worried about how you can possibly challenge their snipers now that they have special ammo and you don't.
(2) There is too much variation in each round now. We have the weird outlier first round with no special, the second round where only one team might have special, with the heavy round soon after. By that point you may STILL not have any special ammo. But the real problem here is that there is too much variation between each round. It makes it very difficult for a losing team to adapt and regroup when each round will be very different from the previous one. If there is no repetition or even playing field with each round, it's simply too chaotic.
Bungie limited special ammo in order to help balance the game. Elimination and Trials are so unbalanced right now it's ridiculous...
[Edit]
I want to add that this whole problem could probably be avoided if all primaries were significantly buffed relative to special weapons. As it stands, primaries have received a net nerf since day 1, and now they are so weak that special weapons are the only good option for competitive play.
Also, I'm not complaining because I'm getting wrecked in Trials. I AM definitely getting wrecked most of the time, but that's not my issue. I'm complaining because Bungie failed to fix the problem they originally set out to fix: the primacy of special weapons in 3v3 matches.

2 RepliesFor trials I would: 1. Get rid of heavy round. 2. Make entrance light level be tied to all gear, ie. You can't play if you have equipment that is under the recommended light level of 290. 3. Have special spawn faster, but remove special after every round so every one starts fresh and there's no advantage given to one side.
3 RepliesI agree. Well said. The only thing I would add is the dominant team usually charges supers faster and uses them more frequently, again adding to the problem.
-
1 ReplyI would of prefer is trials would rotate maps after each round. Instead of just one map when it's active. I hate playing the same map more that two times in a row.
-
For trials, and elimination in general, just remove special at each round start. Easy fix.
-
Play it differently than you used to be more aggressive in the early rounds keep them off the special or kill them before they can grab it don't sit back and wait for special rush them to all hell 75% of people can't primary in this game in trials so rush rush rush
-
I'm still puzzled by Bungo not bring able to implement a spawn swap after each round.

13 RepliesHere's your ENTIRE PROBLEM, STOP FOCUSING ON SPECIAL AMMO. Learn how to shoot and use your primary weapon. Your entire post is completely focused on special weapons and ammo, other guns kill you know-get some skill.
-
2 RepliesI hope you learned a valuable lesson. Good players will adapt and find ways to win under any situation. Sadly most people will not learn anything and keep sucking and moaning about "crutch" this and "crutch" that.

2 RepliesWatch Mtashed's video about special

Remove all special upon switching at anytime in crucible. Boom, no more swapping around for cheesing special, and/or we get a little less snipers 24/7
-
Agreed, ppl use icebreaker at the start of trials then switch weapons at the end of round or while they're dead. There's also the sidearm exploit to get ammo too. There was pretty much no point in making this special ammo update since everyone found ways to get special ammo without picking it up from a crate
-
12 RepliesAnyone else play trials without icebreaker, invective, sidearms, or just waiting for the special to spawn in?
-
2 RepliesAnyone know what a primary is? I can use my Doctrine of Passing and kill 2 people in Trials easily at the beginning of the round.
-
3 RepliesI agree with you 100%. This past weeks ToO was lacking FUN. Not having special ammo and not getting special ammo as the rounds progressed was frustrating as the other team was totally dominant. Not FUN for the below average PVP player.
-
3 RepliesSorry but everyone who is arguing over the sniper op/not op are getting upset over nothing. Take a look at cod. Take a look at how grossly over popular quickscoping became. The common denominator here..... activision. If you think snipers are going away, think again. So to get upset over it is a moot point.

Die and lose special Round ends you lose special
-
2 RepliesSidearm...die...swap to sniper or shotty...revive or respawn with special ammo...problem solved

Try using IB

2 RepliesEdited by J-Hangdown: 2/24/2016 11:54:59 PMI still think limiting special ammo is better. They will have to think of a different way to implement it though since it obviously swings the momentum into the favor of the victors of the first round.
-
1 ReplyConsidering IB circumvents this issue, I don't see the problem.

Edited by Sas: 2/25/2016 11:52:57 AMCalled it when announced. Not a good way to fix the perceived problems with special ammo. Just means I sidearm and nlb first round, tbh.

1 ReplyLol in ur favor.funny
-
1 ReplyOh no, more skill needed HOW TERRIBLE...
-
1 ReplySpot on. Also the use of invective and ice breaker negates the effect entirely since you never know what your facing off the bat unless you inspect every player every game
-
I agree. A possible fix would be to wipe ammo after each round. Flipping spawns would help too. Heavy and special isn't always balanced well on some of these maps.

2 RepliesSee what happens when shitty players like you complain in the first place lol
