The SRL was marketed as taking skill and only rewarding the best sparrow drivers out there.
This is not true.
Sparrow Racing rewards those lucky enough to push someone out of a boost gate. That's it. No skill.
I'd win all my races if sparrows didn't have collision. I always have the early lead, but with the person tailing behind? They start to bump into the back of my sparrow which sends it careening off into the wild.
It's ridiculous how many races I lost to luck and not skill.
What do you think? Should collision be turned off?

2 RepliesCollisions and ramming is what makes racing games great.

Edited by Dyalar: 12/17/2015 12:33:13 AMCollision sucks, but I think handicapping is the real problem. There should be some, but the fact that nearly every single race ends with roughly 5 seconds (out of 4:30-5:00) separating first from sixth is crazy. First place gate should be wider, sixth narrower, rest evenly distributed.
-
Scrubs like you stuck in the pack bumping only appear on my rear radar if I mess up my race line, so i'm unfamiliar with your issue.

4 RepliesI'm able to complete a race on Venus nearly under 4 minutes. It's not that I'm lucky at racing.
I'm just better than you
I agree that collisions should be turned off. Not because it makes it luck though. Sparrow racing takes skill. That's why you see consistent people wining. Once you're out of the pack that is. You take a corner wide at first and you'll be overtaken. You hit a wall. Blow up. Miss a gate. So on. It's skill. The collisions just make getting ahead a real bitch.
-
False...several times, I have been bumped and thrown down into last place, only to race my way back up and win. You just uhhhh...need to get better at the game.. lmao
-
I always start with 10-15 sec late, and i can finish in the top 3, majority of the time 1st. Must be very lucky.
-
So you're great at time trials but not so great at actually racing. Not a knock. Embrace what you are.
-
Tell that to the guys running sub 4s on Venus. Don't think they are getting lucky.
-
it's falls under "crucible" so seems about right
-
Must have collision or wouldn't be fun. You really won't win them all but rewards are still handed out so it's okay.

Edited by Rynoceros: 12/16/2015 11:48:38 PMIf you were really in the lead and running a "prefect" race, how'd they catch you? (Hint: It's possible that you're not as awesome as you think.)
-
Looks like someone ate too much dust.
-
Get good. If you're in front of them they can't push you. And if you get pushed you can just pass them again.

1 ReplyRubbing is racing

2 RepliesI agree and disagree. I race both road and mtn bikes competitively. The best racers out there know how to close a line to their competitors. During mtb, it's taking a line wide to keep someone from passing. In road racing rubbing shoulders to push another rider out of the best line during a road sprint isn't uncommon. During a NASCAR race, rubbing bumpers is part of the race. F1 and Indycar (the bigger events out there) indeed have penalties on rubbing, mainly for safety as these cars friggin' crumble under any sort of impact. I think I agree there should be a Time Trial mode, where racers go against the clock for the best lines. I disagree however that during mass start racing with no penalty of death or any real cost associated with crashing we should have a "ghost mode" if you will. It's those crappy mechanics and goofy things that allow enough slop in the race for everyone to have a chance at winning. Like others have said you can be 1st place leading the whole race only to have those damn fans blow you up right at the end you and you get last place. On the other hand I have been in dead last to come from behind and win 1st place. Enjoy it for what it is. Space hover motorcycles on planets with unknown gravity traits.... Fun.

1 ReplyAt rank 3 who cares about the wins. Just finish the race last and get rewards.
-
Skill is learning the race track and how to cut those tight corners, if that isnt skill for you then idk what is.
-
Funny. I don't have that experience. Instead I either get an enormous lead and hold it the entire race, or I blow myself up on the last lap 3 times right before the finish line and get dead last...
-
Plenty of skill involved you aren't good at it take simple as that take your frustrations somewhere else
-
I love these posts. Nerf the bumping!!! I never played mariokart or waverunner!!! I never played any good racing games where bumping works like its supposed to!!! Ever race in real life? Ever get hit by someone at 90mph? Nerf that then we can play highway bumper cars. Get real.
-
If how bad I did when I started racing compared to how well I do now is any indication, there's plenty of skill involved.
-
Thats why I let the group thin out before taking first. Plus bump is part of racing, dont go full retard .
-
Well first off -blam!- collisions. And it does indeed reward skill over luck. It takes at least a little skill to get to a high enough rank to get those higher armor rewards.
