The SRL was marketed as taking skill and only rewarding the best sparrow drivers out there.
This is not true.
Sparrow Racing rewards those lucky enough to push someone out of a boost gate. That's it. No skill.
I'd win all my races if sparrows didn't have collision. I always have the early lead, but with the person tailing behind? They start to bump into the back of my sparrow which sends it careening off into the wild.
It's ridiculous how many races I lost to luck and not skill.
What do you think? Should collision be turned off?

1 ReplyIt's skill and timing. Also choosing whether to go through a gate and when to side boost. If your good, you only get bumped by other players during the first 15 seconds before leading in front.
-
I think it's part luck and part skill. You need skill to take the right lines and avoid crashing, and luck to avoid running into invisible obstacles

Edited by Cayde Seven: 12/17/2015 10:26:49 AMThe only things I could find that kind of stick out as catch phrases as to how it was marketed before it started: An all-out death race this fun loving event trade some paint with friends where you will be rewarded for your participation participation participation

participation

Seriously if you add up how many times it says participation vs skill in the news updates it's not even close. Edit: It only has a participation/participate three times, but... the word skill is never used, not even once.

6 RepliesI disagree. I just won 9 straight games in a row. Luck? I don't think so. ~TheGreatNike

1 ReplyOr when you hang in the air for 5 hours longer than everyone else. Or hit the ground and do 40 back flips then blow up

True. I've gone from 6th place to 1st all from me pushing ppl into things.

If you stay in second till the last lap then go for it you can catch the leader then just make sure you clip the back of their sparrow to veer them off into a wall and take the lead to win the race. Sparrow racing is utterly boring though and does require very little skill. I find it more fun to go in and see how many people I can make crash :)

1 ReplyIf they're hitting the back of your sparrow you're not going fast enough? If you weren't in the way to be bumped they'd just pass you, so...not sure how you can say you'd always be first. Also I'm pretty sure they didn't market it as a skill event. It's just fun.

It takes skill to win a SRL race but it takes luck to actually get a reward.
-
Nope. Pull away from the pack and let them beat themselves up. Knowing when to turn ans bumper better than the guy in front of you gets you the lead, not luck or collision. The only luck remotely present is the adds. Hydras and legions can ruin positioning, so dont hit them.

Edited by UselessTerror: 12/17/2015 10:01:14 AMI purposely throw my games. Very first sparrow race I was in I got 1st I got a nice blue gun. 2nd-6th got purples. Literally everyone got a damn purple. So I said screw it I'm not winning any more and I haven't been disappointed yet.
-
1 ReplyIf you hit all the gates as first place, no-one catches you! Guess you're just bad!
-
2 RepliesI agree I hate it when people fishtail me. I just try to correct with side boost and pray lol.

6 RepliesEdited by Tomato Gravy: 12/17/2015 8:34:31 AMNo, and it much more skill than luck. Not being mean, but there's no way you get the same people consistently finishing at the top, and other people finishing at the back consistently. Just because you aren't good at it, dosent mean it's all luck.......try to get better at it instead of trying to blame your performance on anything other than yourself. If someone bumping you is consistently throwing you off the track, then you are definitely doing something wrong.

5 RepliesI've reported 2 players for being highly skilled. When you win 5 races in a row with being ahead of every other player by 5-18 seconds every time you are in fact skilled & I hate you because I need 2 wins for my s class license.
-
The terrain ends up screwing me more than not. Landing and just stopping from time to time. The worst part of the bumping is the inconsistency in it the jump gate on Mars is an example of inconsistency for me as well even pulling up the stupid helmet screws you on this thing.
-
What does it matter when you don't even have to finish races to get rewards???
-
But sparrows DO have collision. Its part of the game. So it takes skill to overcome it and win. I'd have a 10.0 kd if everybody else wasnt shooting back at me....but they are....so i don't....cause im not very skilled.....see where im going?
-
Im always top 3 even with bumpers. Just know how to deal with it. I let them kill eachother most the time, ince i get a lead. They cant catch up.
-
Some guy finished the Venus map in 4:04 last night. I got my fastest time because of that just keeping up with the others who were in the 4:15 region. You can't get that fast without some sort of racing skill...still don't know how he did it. Was amazed.

A 1... And a 4.... And a ching chong potato

Video game physics are real finnicky sometimes. One bad bounce turns 1st place into 6th place. Sparrow packs are a huge mess. Get ahead, stay back or try your luck. I feel like there'd be less frustration is people were aware of how to do it intentionally.
-
The trick is not to turn off collision, the trick is to win when you're in 6th place... ... like a boss.

Edited by L0PSIDE: 12/17/2015 8:51:54 AMI have seen people that have won by miles an then continued to do it the next game. So that is not luck. Its down to mastering the sparrow and course. A simple matter of landing can muck it up but if you land it right you just keep going. The way you hit the gates helps you push forward instead of hitting it at an angle. There are lots of factors

Muted for being a moaning idiot who missed point of a death race
