Ditch Fireborn, don't be scared.
This raid has made me positive on one thing. Self-Rez Warlocks are almost always the weak link in a fireteam. If you play like you always have a second chance, you play sloppy. You can't save yourself or make up for your bad, natural decisions when that super isn't charged.
My clan raid group wasn't on last night so I spent 7 hours at Oryx with 4 different LFG fireteams making this decision. After seeing ___________ has self-resurected every round I think my theory is sound. Sunsinger is a crutch for the weak in this raid.

Edit : I keep hearing "Self-Rez is for those oh shit moments." Titans and hunters some how deal with oh shit moments not needing Self-Rez because we have learned to not get ourselves into those situations = better players.
Edit 2 : As for the 2 grenades for ogres argument. One decent Titan with Blessing of Light and Touch of Malice can handle ogres by themselves. Highest level Titan should always be top platform on ogre duty.
Edit 3 : I'm not saying a Warlock has never saved my ass before in a raid, they haven't in this one but past raids sure. My whole point is I believe Warlocks take unnecessary risks because they have that get out of jail card in their back pocket.
Last edit then I'm done with this : Every Warlock argument starts with "WHEN I die...." case closed.
OK OK OK I get it. Self-Rez is the best ever and the most valuable Sub-class Warlocks have. Sunsingers need to simmer down, quit getting so hot under the collar, any other solar pun I can think of, and realize this was an opinion based off of a horrible night of raiding with apparently the only Warlocks that play Destiny that Self-Rez every 5 seconds until they can't. #WarlockSuperAwesomeMasterRaceOfAllRacesPeriod!!!!
Lastly, and everyone pay attention, JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE POSTS AN OPNION DOESN'T MAKE IT DESTINY LAW! There is something strange about the fact that people are trying desperately to prove their worth to, more than likely, myself or a bunch of people they don't know or will never raid with. Probably just a little hidden guilt and shame on Fireborn user's part. If someone posts that Defender bubble is useless in a raid, I keep scrolling because I understand fully that they are indeed an asshole. I hope Warlocks revive their body fluids when they Self-Rez because they are getting hella dehydrated from all the tears flowing.

By the way, my Ward of Dawn helps the entire team through the whole raid, not just myself when I die or that rare chance when the whole team dies and you finish a hard raid boss by yourself as it seems Warlocks do on an hourly basis. Contribute some orbs and clear some ADS you selfish, Self-Rez space bitches.

I started off maining my warlock back in the crota days. You are right in some aspects. I used to always rely heavily on my rez during Vog. I mained hunter through house of wolves, and i am now maining my titan. If you play consistently on your warlock you may begin to rely on the self rez, but if you have spent a considerable amount of time on the other classes you can overcome that. I gave my first hour attempt and beat oryx hard for the first time on my warlock today and it was amazing. We had 4 people alive the last round. Our runner stayed middle and i managed to get the last two blights(which were not over lapped.) and self rez for the final stagger to kill oryx. Self rez is definitely a clutch super, but only if you survive long enough to find a good opportunity to use it. So if you do depend on it you can try maining another sub class; so get used to not having it.

U realise that preventing 1 person from dying DOES help the entire team?? Assume each class plays as conservative as each other... Resurrecting 1 downed guardian can save a wipe. 1 down might be doable in a raid, but say 2 down isn't... Could be all the difference. Def not saying it's [i]better[/i] than bubble or shadowshot, but def on par. Have to weigh up bonus % dps on 5 players vs full dps of 1 person

Well if you have people like me on the team that doesn't mind running out into the mayhem going round to distract enemies so the other team can clear enemies quickly, self res is helpful with that. Not everyone who uses the self res dies all the time lol

1 ReplyI did hard raid twice and never had to use fire born. Decided to use nova bomb for quick damage and for the kills regenerating health with the melee.

I don't run Fireborn unless it'll actually help a lot. I think the last time I did use it was against Skolas since dying with the taint made things easier on the other two guys. I usually run Radiant Skin and would make a ton of orbs.

1 ReplyAs somebody who has been maining warlock since alpha I hate that I have to agree with you. People do tent to play sloppy when they know they got a reset button that's charged and ready. I think this is mostly due to the fact that the other two options just aren't that good. If "Radiant Skin" restored health on use and "Song of Flame" increased armor, overall speed, and super generation for allies, they would be much more attractive alternatives to Self Rez for either solo or group play. That said, I believe Self Red needs a buff. If we could revive dead teammates (at the cost of some super energy). Warlocks would become an absolute staple when building raid teams. The caveat would be that the warlock [u]can not [/u]revive teammates if they used their super to revive themselves. Also reviving teammates costs a lot of super energy (roughly 1/3rd, two players max). Being able to self rez or revive up to 2 dead teammates regardless of their respawn timer will make Fireborn an amazing ability for both group (hard mode raid and nightfall) and solo play. (....but with the chance of everybody being rez'd, will that make everybody play "sloppy"?) 0_o

Was your fireteam's year 1 nightfall ever saved by a warlock? Did a self res pop and kill a raid boss by himself? I've done that.

PVE : Defender = Nighstalker > Sunbreaker > Gunslinger >> Stormcaller > Bladedancer > Voidwalker > Sunsinger > Striker.

Well to be honest I don't use fireborn in any raid seeing that I lose my "must stay alive attitude" when I have self revive ready.I use storm caller always now so.

I've used self-rez only a handful of times in this new raid. First time through, I probably used it four times. On hard I've only started the raid and haven't had to use it once. [except for screwing around after a wipe or something] I use the Tlaloc a lot and being a self-rez warlock gives me a reason not to flop around like my super is a crutch. I lose my super, the weapon I'm using becomes sub-par. While I'm sure what was said is true for a good lot of warlocks, it's not true for all.

Then... Why don't we just run Radiant Skin? Use that and get extra armor and get out of a situation that way?

When I play sunsinger I use my super and heavy to make orbs for my team every round. I'm not going to just hold onto it unless I know I'll need to revive the other Titans and hunters that are dead.... Lol Hard mode always use fire born. Make that person the one killing adds getting gaze the one out in the fight not playing with his dick on a plate....

2 RepliesI main a warlock, i always run self res in raids just in case. However i rarely die, and its rare i use it. Most other people such as titans and hunters die, and when they do we all have to yell wipe.. Where as if a warlock happens to mess up, we can keep going. Not to mention the overshield with a mele attack comes in clutch.

When xXdickhead420 doesn't get his bomb and I'm playing my lock I'll go grab it, take the hit, and self rez when appropriate. It's not the ability to self res that causes complacency, it's the player. Being able to bring yourself back from the dead is beyond useful in hard mode, and the people on here that post stuff like "if you're using fireborn I'll kick you" are insane. Who would want to raid with someone so quick to judge, anyway?

If Radiance is a Crutch, then so is Defender and Nightstalker, most people are sloppy but others do it so wipes can be averted.

I use self res only because nothing else is really worth it for oryx. I rarely use it anyway. Its just sitting there. Stormcaller doesn't have enough range and voidwalker isn't very good
