Killed Oryx with 20 Moldering Shards..
...And didn't get an extra reward, but yet still redeemed my 20 Moldering Shards, has this happened to anyone else? It's weird because yesterday as my Hunter I beat Oryx with 20 Moldering Shards again and got Skyburners Annex, Darkhollow Chiton, and Doom of Chelchis. But today with my Titan it redeemed 20 Moldering Shards and only gave me chest piece..

3 RepliesFrom what i understand the 20 shards give you an extra roll on the loot table and shards take up quite a big part of that table. So you often end up trading 20 shards to get 2 back. Its happened to me three times.

The past 3 raids I've done I've gotten a pair of gauntlets and I used 20 moldering shards every time

When you use 20 shards and only get one item the extra I'd usually 2 more shards. Out of 6 runs I only got a double drop once.

Edited by Aurion77: 10/8/2015 9:15:37 AMThe chest piece was your reward for the shards. Your rng drop from oryx was nothing. No loot is guaranteed except the drop for the shards.

I killed him on my Titan a couple days ago with 57 moldering shards and just got the Titan mark :/

Some people are confused about how the shards and drops work so I'll clear it up. The 20 shards give you an extra "drop" so if you only got 1 thing, if you didnt have those 20 shards it wouldnt have given you anything (like crota or vog, remember just getting shards?) But here's where bungie messed up I think: apparently they also count a "no loot drop" as a drop because 5 out of the 6 times ive done it I have gotten nothing other than 2 shards back (when we get to oryx I use the app and move extra shards to vault so I only have 20 on me) meaning when it took my 20 it picked the RNG of a no drop and that's what I got.

The 20 moldering shards were used for the chest piece. Only primary weapons and helmets are in oryx' loot table

I had bad luck with it until last night. After 4 clears I got 310 suros, chelchis, and the raid pulse. Awesome to get the weapons but I want the armor!!!! And I'm not complaining. Just wish it was a little smarter.

Try using molding shards to get a antiquitied rune and a legendary engram that what I got
