What's wrong with being a casual? I see it chucked around here and there as somewhat of an insult to people. I don't understand what the issue is with being a casual.

1 ReplyThere are casuals, then there are filthy casuals.

11 RepliesCuz apparently it's not good enough to just play a game for fun anymore. It's not good enough that you just drop into a story and enjoy a narrative. Now you gotta livestream. Now you gotta go positive. Now you gotta speedrun. Now you gotta screenshot your endgame stats. Now you gotta upload montages of all your highlights. It's not enough to just have fun anymore, you practically have to compete like it's a sport, lest you be considered casual or bad.

It's the minority complaining about the majority

I play games to have fun and relax and unwind. That's why games like EVE online confuse me because it is essentially a second life (with spaceships and lasers)
-
2 RepliesCan I be a casual and go flawless?
-
2 RepliesThere is an axiom for this kind of game: Anyone who plays fewer hours than me is a casual Anyone who plays more hours than me has no life
-
I play every day but not for 8 hours straight because I have other shit to do. Am I still a casual?
-
7 RepliesCasuals go 3-18 in crucible or have to wipe 20 times in a raid, no one wants that in their fire team
-
2 RepliesIt's because most of a fanbase of any game that considers themselves "diehard fans" are elitists and if you're someone who considers their life's work "just a game", they'll get really worked over about it. Oh and since Destiny has a T rating, there'll be a ton more of little kids who try to be like those elitists probably because they think it's cool
-
I don't mind casuals. It's like physical sports; some people do it for fun.
-
It's only an issue with the elitist assholes.

1 ReplyYeah i don't get it either. Casual Fridays at work = awesome! Casual sex = super awesome!! Casual gamer = not so awesome...

I think we need to nerf Destiny These comments are ridiculously OP

1 ReplyJealousy for "casuals" having families, hobbies, jobs........ Sex (other than self)
-
1 ReplyDamn you casuals for not dedicating all your free time to this game and this game alone. You make me sick and so does your bloodline.
-
14 RepliesThe hate comes when casuals complain they don't have the same weapons, armor, etheric light etc as die hard fans who play this game and only this game that grind every bit of it and may or may not have everything. If someone with 200 hours complains about not having gally or wants etheric light to be sold by xur to basically make the game easier it upsets those that play the toughest parts of the game and work hard for their rewards
-
It's not a bad thing in general. Where it gets jumped on is when OP has a strong and/or ridiculous opinion on something without the time put in. Or when the Community Manager barely played 50 hours total and is trying to explain why more vault space isn't needed. Well, duh, if you haven't been hardcore since Day 1 then you don't have to worry about deleting OG weapons you'd like to keep for reasons other than attack rating.
-
And what camp do us dads fall in? Don't play enough to be hardcore, but most of my gaming time has been on Destiny since I got it. There needs to be different tiers of end game to cater for all. I think ToO did that to extent. I'd have made the end content more accessible, but then had special awards for the first X number of guardians who achieved certain milestones.

Filthy, casual and PROUD!

8 RepliesEdited by MisterM-E4: 7/25/2015 7:11:39 AMCasuals = people that dedicate the majority of their time to their health/life/financial goals because playing hours upon hours of video games will not accomplish them. I love Destiny but I'd rather be a legend in real life. #JustSaying

Casuals shouldn't be posting on forums. If you post and you're found out to be a casual this causes tension. If you are truly a casual and only play the game once in a while then you wouldn't even know about forums. Instead we have people who are not casuals but who are also Not very good at video games who come on the forums to interact. It's when non casuals run into these people that conflict occurs as it's hard to accept the opinion of a casual OR someone who is not good at video games. Yes, it is a derogatory term but one only used against non casuals who think they are good but in fact play at the level of a casual. I've never been a casual player of any video game.. I either buy all in or chuck it out within 24hrs. I've also been gaming since I could hold a controller.

7 RepliesCasuals are why this game keeps getting watered down. Something is too difficult? Cry for a Nerf Gun too powerful? Cry for a Nerf Cant get the gear that you want? Cry for Xur to sell it! Then they rage quit because they don't get guns & armor handed to them & go back to CoD & Minecraft. Now HoW came out & Bungie is just handing out light level 34 armor & powerful weapons JUST to get the casuals back playing you cannot deny that the "casuals" are just ruining this game
-
4 RepliesThere is no issue with the casual players. But there is a big issue with some elitist players.
-
6 RepliesEdited by Ice Lantern: 7/25/2015 10:09:10 AMIt really just depends on how people use it. Sometimes it's used simply to refer to people who are just not as dedicated to the game. Others, on the other hand, use it like a derogatory term. Hardcore players view casual players as complainers who want everything just handed to them. Casual players view hardcore players as elitist pricks with nothing else going on in their lives and want to exclude them out of everything. Each group feels that the other is ruining the game. Personally, I think that both views are toxic. Making judgments about someone's personal life based on how they choose to enjoy a videogame is beyond asinine. I would like to see content be more accessible for more casual players but I would also like some aesthetic rewards for people who put more time and effort into the game. As for me, I am an old school guy who feels that people should get out of things according to what they put in whether it be their careers, families, social lives, videogames, other hobbies, etc.
