I have a deep, philosophical question for you all
You are beside two train tracks. One of which has an infant baby on it and the other has two grown men and one woman. The two tracks come from a fork in the original track, and there is a speeding train going down it. You are helpless to stop it and have no way of saving these human beings. You do, however, have a choice. Choose Option A and you switch the tracks for the child to be slaughtered, or Option B, and switch the tracks so that those poor men and women die. Which one is morally correct?
Edit1: So far it seems, as quoted by Talos, "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few".
Edit2: You can't put the track in the middle, nor can the people save themselves. They are tied up.

Edit4: If you do nothing then you will be killed by crazed satanists and will be sacrificed to the devil in the most painful and excruciating way.

I'd save the kid, to be honest. The adults have lived for a good amount of time while the baby is young and still riddled with potential. You will be labeled a murderer with whatever choice you make though, but I'd prefer not to be considered as a killer of children.

I could never recover from killing an infant. I would have to pick B. Those men and woman have lived a decent portion of their lives. If I was on those tracks I hope you all would pick the baby.

Unfortunately little is learned here since the choice is essentially the same. Nothing can really be derived from this since most people look at a soul all the same. the choice becomes the absence of choice. For this reason I went for the baby. I don't know what kind of people the others are. The baby is the only one who can benefit from you saving due to... Dammit! -blam!- you analytical psychology!!! 3 RepliesYou don't say how far away the train is. ..wouldn't the conductor apply the brakes if he noticed impending danger on the tracks ahead? Flipping the switch unexpectedly could cause more harm then good. I would trust the man to do his job.
