The damage Trials has done to the game is severe. The social implications of making arguably the best pve weapons only obtainable from going 9 - 0 in a pvp game type are already destroying the game. Most people I play with have had clans split apart. This is due to the max players in an activity being three. You would think the other three would then make a group but the best players are only playing with the best and the ones who are lower skilled end up doing nothing with anyone. The result is people are not playing with others solely based on skill in the game. These lower skilled people will not progress and as a result leave the game.
Trials combines the worst aspects of fps into one failed and broken game type. In Trials lower skilled players cannot even get a team to attempt the content. Period. When they do it is a massacre so they quit and the better players avoid them. Half my friends list alternates between visible and invisible in an attempt to AVOID PEOPLE. I am not talking about me but others. They do not want to tell others no to playing with them so hiding seems to be the preferred option. Destiny went from a fun and relaxed game to this? Half the time the only reason I know someone is on because they invite me to a party. Why you invis? To avoid this dude....
The flawless requirement literally destroys Trials. One win and you are out which is tedious and boring. It also brings out the worst in people. Friends are fighting and getting angry. Deleting people from friends list and blocking. Already today three people logged off upset. Two people yelled at each other. NO ONE IS HAVING FUN. AT ALL.
Now take all I said above and add the very common and pervasive cheating going on in Trials. Ddos attacks, lag switches, aim bots, and other crap that further ruin the player experience. So you go 8 - 0 only to lose because the other team booted one of your team mates or lags so bad it takes an entire team to kill them. It is a miserable experience.
In the final analysis none of this is fun. Even poe is not fun because I cannot do 34 and 35 with a lot of my friends.
I cannot justify purchasing another product from a company that releases content this bad. If the requirements to get Lighthouse were reasonable I would keep at it but they are not. The content alienates people.
I don't mind grinding or hard content. What I do not like is content that destroys your friends list, splits people apart, and ruins what in many ways was a social game.
Bungie better take notice and deal with this. Everyone changes games. This is the first time since playing this game from release that I can honestly say the MAJORITY OF MY FRIENDS ARE NOT HAVING FUN.
EDIT: I agree with what a lot of people are saying on both sides. I believe many would not have purchased this game if content was like Trials. The social issues are real whether ones wants to admit them or not. In the end, Destiny is just a game. Lol. Just play something else and frankly I have lost most, if not all, of my faith in Bungie. Even Iron Banner was doable for everyone given a long timeline. If you really want that item grind it out. Sure others may get it in a shorter or longer time frame but you could play with anyone and still progress. It was fine.
EDIT 2: Some idiots are comparing Trials to mlg. MLG not part of the core game nor does it have rewards in game. It is seperate from the game.
EDIT 3: If you are to stupid to NOT finish reading the orginal post don't bother to comment. The dudes who write "I stopped reading at....." are to stupid to finish reading a paragraph and should not comment. Lol. Also, based on the people I know in game Trials has definately not breathed life into Destiny. Instead it is ruining it. I have never witnessed this much disdain and overall negatively towards a dlc. The premise behind Trials is flawed and only appeals to a minority of the player base at the expense of the majority. People did not buy the dlc to never have access to the Lighthouse and rewards.
EDIT 4: If you love pvp odds are you will try the new Halo. Most, if not all, the hard core pvp players I know in Destiny have every intention of playing Halo. Destiny has some major issues with pvp regarding weapon balance, class balance, and map design. When 90% of the players use hand cannons and 2% use assualt rifles (an entire class of wespons) you have no balance. Destiny also does not have leader boards and a viable skill measuring system in game. All hardcover pvp players want is recognition and a place to compete. The introduction of private matches and visible in game leader boards would have worked 10 times better than Trials. If I were a betting man I believe Halo will result in a mass exodus of pvpers from Destiny who will not come back. The supers and other issues are major problems for Destiny pvp. Destiny's niche was mmo style pve or the pvers... but Trials has caused major issues with this relationship and frankly people I know who were Destiny fanatics have started looking for other games. Trials is poison and is catering to a portion of the player base that will likely leave the game anyway. The sad thing is all Bungie had to do was make more reasonable methods to obtain lighthouse. 18 wins no matter how many lost games. Point totals that stay with your character over multiple passages that eventually give access like rep. IB was implemented well because given time anyone could succeed. Granted the better players got rewards faster but everyone given time could succeed. This is all interesting.
EDIT 5: Playing against cheaters is unavoidable in fps and you must learn to both accept and deal with it. The issue with Trials is that flawless is so unforgiving it compounds the impact. One lost game due to cheating (not accounting for boons) and you start over. It is the fact flawless is so ridiculous.

I literally only read the first line of your post

5 RepliesAgree and dissagree. Yes cheaters are an issue and can ruin a nearly flawless card which is complete bullshit. However, I have way more than I ever had with Iron Banana, IB is way too laggy and match making is just a joke most the time. Also I don't mind losing to a team that simply out performed mine. I will say this though I think there should be somewhat of a system in place that places your team against a team with a similar KD ratio average. Before you jump down my throat, saying Get Good, blah blah blah. I actually believe this would make people get good and be able to actually progress and be able to raise they're KD ratio up and take on more and more challenging opponents. The problem is that when you first start Trialing, if you get you're ass handed to you and dominated you are never going to learn from the experience and be able to progress and get better. Which is why there is a high majority who try it a few times and get pissed and never come back. Simply put there are those people out there that are so damn good at this that new people have absolutely no chance to win against them and have no opportunity to get better, you don't learn anything from getting owned in 20 seconds basically. .. I don't think everyone should get to the Lighthouse, and I don't want that achievement to just be handed o u t like Xur with his Gjahlahorn. It's definitely something that should always remain a very difficult objective to obtain with an equally awarding reward for accomplishing said task.

3 RepliesYes it is solely about winning to get good weapons, however, the only good weapon from trials is the messenger and there are plenty of good people in the forum who can carry people to at least get the non-elemental form of it. Trials was built to be extremely competitive and not be a "everyone should get a chance" game type. It was built for the most "skilled" players (I use quotation marks because blink shot gunning and thorn/tlw users aren't really skilled, they just use crutches. Some are just better with crutches than others). But That's what regular crucible is for. If you aren't as skilled or want to play with big groups, play iron banner or clash, it's that simple. If you want to get flawless or 7 wins, then play crucible until you get better, it's really not that hard of a concept.

4 RepliesEdited by Diamond D Nice: 8/31/2015 5:48:42 AMmy problem with trials is: trials is designed by bungie to prioritize going flawless over all else and because of that everyone is deterred from simply playing for enjoyment because you don't really get good rewards for simply playing a card fully with losses. And because of this, it's very hard to find groups. It's like if the only way to get any good drops in a raid was to get flawless raider. Well then the only way people would play is if you were good enough to go flawless, excluding a lot of people. The way trials is set up and how the reward system is promotes that and i think that is one big reason why so many don't play it. The second problem is lack of skill based matchmaking means many teams are simply just getting pasted and for most that's not fun. Most of those people quit and rarely return. all this is exacerbated by the fact that POE rewards are simply not worth the effort in time and frustration spent. Sure the best players may coast through some of it but for many the rewards you get for skolas don't justify the effort plus the mere fact that there are not checkpoints means people think twice about it because you're locked in and if you quit you get nothing. My solution for trials to address the above issue would be: 1. skill based matchmaking. 2. Flawless would get you the same rewards everytime, An exclusive ship, shader, emblem, class item, A specific unique exotic gun, the same gun everytime. 10k glimmer. The reason all of the rewards are the same every time is because once you do it once i don't want people to feel the have to go flawless again just to get rewards. 3. Those adept primaries would be a random drop for completing a full card. And you could do that to you're hearts content trying to get drifferent elements for your favorite guns. Whole point is to nerf flawless. Once you had the items and the bragging rights and the exotic gun there'd doing it again wouldn't be the end all and be all and LFG wouldn't be demanding everybody had to have gone flawless because once they've done it they wouldn't need to do it again and for those that haven't done it, like flawless raider, it's not so important that you have to do it. Side note: i'd make a real effort to balance all the guns but that's me. trials of thorn should never have been a thing. It should have been fixed like weeks after Trials launched. Hell it should have been fixed weeks after they boosted it to OP levels

TL;DR Xylar destroyed destiny, and this entire rant above proves that. It also proves the hunter handicap. I'm gonna go use my NLB with invisibility rounds now.

1 ReplyEdited by jimjam06: 8/31/2015 10:29:24 PM1) If you don't like it just don't play. There's plenty of other guns and armor equally as good. 2) I 100% agree on the cheating aspect in trials. Hope bungie has a record of them and they get banned. 3) Also, I recommend playing trials on Monday afternoons/nughts. All the good players blow through there characters in a day or two, which leaves the less skilled players. This will definitely help out your odds of going flawless.

6 RepliesEdited by Toshiro: 9/2/2015 12:01:23 PMFirst of all: House of Wolves, regardless of your subjective experiences, has been received very well by the destiny community and critics overall. This is an unavoidable fact. Check the ratings and reviews from IGN, Game Informer, etc. They all say that it is quite a good thing for Destiny. Second of all: I once again don't know about you, but none of my friends have quit because of trials. Some don't play it anymore after getting a few flawlesses, but none have quit destiny itself. Furthermore, I have seen little evidence of this overall on the forums. I have seen some people take a break recently before TTK, but that is all. I think this is just you being very subjective - again. I don't know about you, but Trials is some of the most fun I've had in Destiny. I love the competition and elimination mode. It is definitely something that has kept me playing Destiny this past month, it's just so damn fun. Many, many people on the forums and elsewhere agree with me and I can point you to them if needed. Finally, your points where it is both incredibly implausible to go flawless and no good players will help lesser players is flawed. First of all, if your friend list's best PvP players refuse to play with anyone but each other, they're unnecessary assholes or not as good as you claim. A moderately talented player can easily carry two at least semi decent players to flawless (perhaps requiring two or three tries) and can also carry one shit player to Flawless with a second good (just better than decent) player helping. I have done both on several occasions as the moderately talented player. I've gotten quite a few people their first flawlesses, and honestly some of them have been quite bad. It's just about finding people who aren't assholes. Hit me up if you or anyone else is looking for their first flawless on Xbox One. Halo 5 won't kill Destiny - some people may leave for awhile, but most will invariably come back for the dlc in December. EDIT: All of the Trials gear is definitely geared towards PvP. Jewel, Summoner (after the buff happens), Scholar, Messenger, Eye of Sol, Astral Horizon, Infinite Theorem, and Tomorrow's Answer are all PvP weapons predominately. The armor also tends to have PvP perks.

Edited by tHeNaZMaN: 9/2/2015 12:09:21 PMI have seen both sides of trials. I had a clan I was a part of be ripped apart due to the competitive nature of trials. But I don't blame trials for that, I blame the leadership in that clan. Trials can be a ton of fun, infuriating, and was by far the most fun content released in house of wolves. The weapons are nothing compared to vog weapons for pve, and pvp wise there are variants of the trials weapons that do just as good if not better. It's a place for people to compete in a high stakes game. I'm glad it's so hard because not everyone can do it. It's a challenge.

4 RepliesTrials created the only getaway fir people who want a somewhat balanced and competitive match for nightfall tier rewards while having fun it didnt destroy destiny it just created a fun competitive gamemode thats the equivalent of a nightfall for pvp players
-
Ah trials is shit anyway. They only put it in so the COD fan boys wouldn't complain so much and to let them have their day in the sun. Most of them can't get enough members for a raid together anyway. What with their egos and all.

Someone can't go flawless

Jesus -blam!-ing Christ this wall of text
too long; didn't read
I would say it did the opposite and was the only thing that had any lengthy play time from the last DLC.. I would also say your a whiny little bitch.

Destiny itself destroyed Destiny

I think it's ridiculous that Bungie designed the nicest gear around winning 45 straight games in pvp, it's appalling and preposterous

1 ReplyYou're just mad you can't go flawless! I'm just kidding calm down. You've maid some great points but I love trials. It added a competitiveness not previously seen in crucible. Sometimes it's opinionated, other times it can be due to lack of skill level. I can agree though that the lag is real even tho they say it's connection based. That's my two cents!

6 RepliesDestiny still exists. Your definition of literal is wrong.

Its a challenge. Trials is definitely the most competitive game mode in Destiny. Which is exactly why I love it. But coming from a guy who has went Flawless 4x I know its hard. Before going Flawless I went 8-1. SIX TIMES. But its all about determination. I always pushed myself to get better at the game mode. And I made it. Going flawless doesn't mean you are the best. Its how you handle your opponents. Wether they're trash or experienced. Thats how you become the best.
-
I agree that locking people out of an entire place like the lighthouse based off of a flawless card that can be screwed up based on lag switches and destiny servers booting you out is not good but in all honesty the guns aren't amazing and the ones that are were built on a pvp model anyway. None of them stand out as great pve perks. For example I have the trials rocket launcher and you can roll ash factory or wastelander for the same perks but increased blast radius and velocity. I've got the shotgun which has good base stats but awful perks and you can't reroll trials guns.
