first of all, please note that this is by no means meant as a rant.
now that that's clear, let me tell you how i - The Average PvP player - see the Trials of Osiris. i LIKE it, i like it a lot, but i think i speak for many average players when i say "it is very hard for me to actually enjoy it"
the fact that i keep running into people who are hundreds of times better than i am simply means one thing and one thing only - i get destroyed, a LOT, and so is my 'fun'. now honestly - who here would enjoy having their ass handed over to them one game after another, one pass after another? ;)
i know i am probably going to get a lot of hate for this, but hear me out please.
i think Trial could be made BETTER, more ENJOYABLE, and for wider variety of Players, and the only thing it takes is,....
....TADAAAAAAAAAAAA
Matching against other Teams based on ACTUAL Skill/Performance.
in case this ever happens i believe EVERYONE wins, as:
a) the True 'Elite' PvP players will get matched against equally skilled players resulting in better challenge (a challenge they've been asking for since Destiny's launch), so they get a more enjoyable enviroment
b) the Average player (i.e. ME, The N00B) will be matched against equally 'skilled' n00bs, so they actually get to compete and have a means to 'EARN' (...how i truly hate this word, but used it since many of the Elite players rub it into our average faces) the ToO weapons and armor
b-b-b-b-ut, but what about 'The Lighthouse' the biggest special snowflake area in the whole of Destiny? it will get crowded with NOOBZ, the sacred place will be messed by all the unworthy-noob-scum!!!....you may ask
NO! it won't, as if the matchmaking is based on performance, The N00B like me will start their ToO journey matched against equally unskilled players, but in case i win a bunch of matches, my combat rating will inevietably go up which means i WILL run into the Elite player at some point - i.e. going Flawless will still be very unlikely for the real n00b, however they will at least be able to collect more than 1-2 wins per pass, and a fair chance to claim some ToO rewards on sale at Vances'
so, what do YOU think?
bump if you like (or even if you don't) and comment if you will
i am not saying my opinion is 100% right, but i do believe that it might sound like a fair 'solution' (if that word even applies) to what ToO is at the moment, making it accessible for more players, while still being the true 'Proving Ground' that separates The Best from The Rest.
peace out
EDIT: many seem to be misuderstanding my idea here. what i am suggesting is a matchmaking based on your ACTUAL performance in each weeks Trials, so in other words
- as long as you keep winning you will be matched agains others who also keep winning, so that ONLY the Best players can make it through flawlessly, while having equally skilled competition along the way. also, preventing n00bs frmo going flawlessly, as even if they do win a few matches against other n00bs, their ACTUAL performance will improve and they will be matched against Good players at some point
- as long as you keep loosing, you will be matched against others who are loosing, resulting in a pretty much equal competition even for the bad players. they won't go flawlessly, but playing against equally 'bad' players will result i close games enjoyable even for average players

I'm an average player Defo casual I enjoy the trials and yeah I ant gone 9-0 but when I've played I've got every item I wanted
-
1 ReplySo you mean people who are 8-0 on their card will play against other people with 8-0 or close right? I completely agree with that idea, it might make it even more difficult to reach lighthouse but I think it will also make the game more fun..
-
9 RepliesI can't tell you what your topic was about. The only thing I saw was un-capitalized letters in EVERY SINGLE possible place where one should have been. You lost complete credibility before you were given a chance to explain yourself. Maybe you had a good point but I just felt like Austin Powers poking at a mole with a stick and wanted to chop your post up and make Guaca-mole-y.
-
This shit is so stupid.
-
10 RepliesThis is the easiest way I can explain it to you. A player who plays basketball on the weekends only can't complain about LeBron James being better than him. For example you can't only play crucible when it's trials and iron banner, and complain when players who play crucible on a daily basis are just plain better than you. Put the work in first if you want the results.
-
1 ReplyIt requires practice and teamwork... you'd be surprised how a good team can fair against better players. Remember when Russia beat America in the Olympics in the Basketball event!? Too many MVP's and not enough team.

Edited by NathanW18: 6/6/2015 10:38:40 AMImporting the horrible matchmaking that already plagues regular Crucible would be a bad thing. It attempts to match players on ability to produce closer games. I feel that it doesn't even work that well, because the majority of matches are blow outs, anyway, and the lag is horrific. The connection in ToO is much better than in regular Crucible. Being matched against similar quality opponents would be fine if the connection was also good. Regular Crucible has proven to me that this isn't possible, and for that reason, I have to disagree. Connection is more important than trying to matchmake similar skilled players. I'm unsure how coming up against a team on the other side of the world, because you're at a similar skill level produces fairer games. There are too many players that don't play Crucible that except to be competitive in this.

1 ReplyI'll shorten it down for ya No thorn , vex , TLW or trials weapons ? Not level 34 Don't bother ......
-
if this was the case, people would reverse boost and then proceed to kick your ass anyway.

I have gotten so much better just by grinding ib. Now I'm just bad. Before I was hopeless. I'm going to keep playing pvp for the challenge. I hope in time I'll get better by learning maps and strategy. Getting destroyed by another human is far better getting destroyed by extreme modifiers in poe.

5 RepliesWhile I generally agree with you, there is only 1 problem I have with it. Everyone paid for this expansion and a very large amount of people won't get to experience the lighthouse. For me it's whatever, I don't care personally. I suck at skirmish style and am nowhere near good enough to compete in the ToO. My problem is the argument that average players don't deserve to experience the lighthouse if they can't compete at that level. Well... Everyone paid for this game and a vast majority of them will never experience something they paid for. Not because they don't want to, but because they aren't good enough. One of the biggest complaints about destiny is the absence of content( or content removed). Bungie effectively did the same thing to the average player for ToO and the same people who are pissed about missing content are glad that the lighthouse is only for the elite. You can't have it both ways, that's called hypocrisy. The lighthouse might as well not exist to the average player because we will never see it. ( please note I don't care about the lighthouse. I'll never see it and it doesn't bother me. My pvp skill set is not skirmish, I'm just not good enough. I happily play IB and General crucible formats and that's enough for me. Others may not feel the same way as I do)

How do you suppose they accomplish writing a whole new code that could take a month? What about all 3 players? What if two amazing players carry an average player? Will the game search based on the average player or the two top players? Do you think that'll make the game enjoyable for the average player? The only people willing to help are those two top players and he's stuck matching their skill level. But, if they match with the average player then the other side loses. Why is some average Joe competing in a tournament to find the best of the best? This is competitive multiplayer and there isnt a guaranteed win, I would suggest a player list and ranked. But, with the exclusion of chest rewards for player list. Because the weapon is rewarded to the 'elite' not the average player. Does everyone love how no one gave a damm about giving end game content for pvpers? How we're expected to play a God awful horde mode to live up to the meta? Now pvp has a Meta and it makes people sick to their stomachs. I'm tired of these posts, if you can't beat them and refuse to adapt then shut up and quit your complaining. You are not a developer, and you are not paid to adjust game play. Let bungie decide what's fair.
-
2 RepliesThey did say trials was for the best of the best -.-
-
4 RepliesTrials are about finding the best players , the only people who complain are the people who aren't good enough to go 9-0 . Trials serve the purpose of making players practice crucible throughout the week and leveling up new guns and gear for the next weekends event
-
When I started today I thought long range map means long range weapons. Top choice was thorn to snipe with lol go figure.
-
I have a 1.1 k/d and went 9-2 last week with no boons with a team from a matchmaking site. It's not hard, you just need to communicate. Don't bother with trying to go flawless on your first card, just work out the choke points on the map and find out where teams tend to set up/camp/push. On your second card go for it
-
2 RepliesHonestly, the very thought of matchmaking PvP without rank/skill matches just makes me shake my head and feel like we've regressed to 2003. Bungie spent so long figuring out how to make Halo matchmaking fun for everyone, and it's like they've chucked it in favor of placating the hard core
-
Yep ToO is elite only. It would be nice for us casuals to have better matchmaking. But I guess it's also nice to have a godly goal to shoot for.
-
Average player's never been in ToO...
-
-
It wouldn't be that hard to do. Tekken 6 did it 6 years ago. I'm sure the algorithm is out there
-
4 RepliesOr be matched against people with the same number of wins on their card
-
ToO is not for the average/casual player. That being said, I rekted a good few of those ToO elitists in Iron Banner.....
-
Then people will complain about lag
