ToO from the 'average' player's perspective

first of all, please note that this is by no means meant as a rant. now that that's clear, let me tell you how i - The Average PvP player - see the Trials of Osiris. i LIKE it, i like it a lot, but i think i speak for many average players when i say "it is very hard for me to actually enjoy it" the fact that i keep running into people who are hundreds of times better than i am simply means one thing and one thing only - i get destroyed, a LOT, and so is my 'fun'. now honestly - who here would enjoy having their ass handed over to them one game after another, one pass after another? ;) i know i am probably going to get a lot of hate for this, but hear me out please. i think Trial could be made BETTER, more ENJOYABLE, and for wider variety of Players, and the only thing it takes is,.... ....TADAAAAAAAAAAAA Matching against other Teams based on ACTUAL Skill/Performance. in case this ever happens i believe EVERYONE wins, as: a) the True 'Elite' PvP players will get matched against equally skilled players resulting in better challenge (a challenge they've been asking for since Destiny's launch), so they get a more enjoyable enviroment b) the Average player (i.e. ME, The N00B) will be matched against equally 'skilled' n00bs, so they actually get to compete and have a means to 'EARN' (...how i truly hate this word, but used it since many of the Elite players rub it into our average faces) the ToO weapons and armor b-b-b-b-ut, but what about 'The Lighthouse' the biggest special snowflake area in the whole of Destiny? it will get crowded with NOOBZ, the sacred place will be messed by all the unworthy-noob-scum!!!....you may ask NO! it won't, as if the matchmaking is based on performance, The N00B like me will start their ToO journey matched against equally unskilled players, but in case i win a bunch of matches, my combat rating will inevietably go up which means i WILL run into the Elite player at some point - i.e. going Flawless will still be very unlikely for the real n00b, however they will at least be able to collect more than 1-2 wins per pass, and a fair chance to claim some ToO rewards on sale at Vances' so, what do YOU think? bump if you like (or even if you don't) and comment if you will i am not saying my opinion is 100% right, but i do believe that it might sound like a fair 'solution' (if that word even applies) to what ToO is at the moment, making it accessible for more players, while still being the true 'Proving Ground' that separates The Best from The Rest. peace out EDIT: many seem to be misuderstanding my idea here. what i am suggesting is a matchmaking based on your ACTUAL performance in each weeks Trials, so in other words - as long as you keep winning you will be matched agains others who also keep winning, so that ONLY the Best players can make it through flawlessly, while having equally skilled competition along the way. also, preventing n00bs frmo going flawlessly, as even if they do win a few matches against other n00bs, their ACTUAL performance will improve and they will be matched against Good players at some point - as long as you keep loosing, you will be matched against others who are loosing, resulting in a pretty much equal competition even for the bad players. they won't go flawlessly, but playing against equally 'bad' players will result i close games enjoyable even for average players

  • This is a simple concept known as " arena rating ". Most pvp games will pit you against people within a percentage of points you have acquired. The high end ratings = highest rates gear. Didn't halo have this? Look up how WOW used to do it. You could of corse destroy your rating to be out against lower skilled players but...it's not something people ever really did. They also had skirmishes for practice...and that thing....what was it? Oh! .....fun.

  • The only thing I've ever seen that was close to logical is if you've been to the lighthouse you're out of matchmaking for those who haven't on that character Still don't 100% agree with it though

      • i think the matchmaking in too is really -blam!-ed up. of course it is to find the best pvp players but its just unfair if you get matched against a team wich was multiple times at the lighthouse. they have to do something about the matchmaking. i know im not that good at pvp but i want to play too and learn, i want to get better but its not possible with that matchmaking

        • I think the idea you have is a good one, even if you don't skill match the trials it should at least be matched to number of games you have won, so if 2 teams are 8 - 0 they should be facing each other and not a team that has lost the first 2 like I always do lol Then the elite will get rewarded, to be the best you have to beat the best! Isn't that what real elite skills is supposed to be like? I bet most of the players who go flawless each week would agree to this, if you truly are elite you want a challenge.

And if that good ol' Thorn don't kill, Damage Over Time sure will. Fusions and shotguns don't you fret, post mortem kills is what we'll get. And if you're still alive, beware. There's plenty more Thorns in the Garden there.

            • I totally agree. It really sucks getting matched up against a full team of flawless try-hards when I'm two wins away from flawless who destroy my team and do the usual dancing and tea bagging to rub it in.

Sorry if you cover this because I didn't read past 'matching with other playes based on skill' but I assume you do not. You have completely missed the point of trials. Trials isn't there so you can enjoy yourself and make some loot. It's a competition. If crap players only play crap players then the competition becomes completely unbalanced and unfair. Why should an 8/10 team only play top teams and maybe not make it to Mercury when a 3/10 team can play crap teams and potentially get a much easier ride? You're not supposed to play this mode for fun, you're supposed to play it to win. That's the entire idea and why every incentive is based on winning. I'm sorry if you disagree but bungie clearly stated this was for the stronger pvp players and would not be easy at all. That's like saying if you suck at pve you should be able to play skolas at level 26 but still get an elder cipher. It doesn't work like that because that screws over anyone who has bothered to practice and improve. Tl;dr - you missed the point of trials entirely, it is not there to cater to the average pvp player. It is there solely to reward the better players and nothing else. That's the exact point of competitive play.

                  • hence why in ANY FPS game there should be a ranking structure for PvP

                  • Actually it makes a lot of sense. Playing against better players can improve your skills but only if the delta isn't too high. Putting a noob 32 w/ 331 weapons and only been on the map a few times in crucible, against a full 34 with 365 weapons and map familiarity from a 9-0 streak on that map. Isn't going to improve your game because you don't last long enough in it to learn anything. Other than its an unbalanced "competition".

                    • I personally think it's fine the way it is, flawlessed all 3 characters every week. It's meant for higher end Pvpers, just like some people aren't meant to kill Skolas. The rants I see about that are hilarious how he should be nerfed into the ground because he's too hard. Welcome to endgame people.

I am a little above average of a PvP player. I completed trials of Osiris once (not flawless) because I kept on getting just a bad team. Sometimes, we would do a good one or 2 matches, but we would keep dying, only because the other team is just way more skilled. Now that I think about, I did better in trials as a 33 than a 34. Why?
I really love this idea
