ToO from the 'average' player's perspective

first of all, please note that this is by no means meant as a rant. now that that's clear, let me tell you how i - The Average PvP player - see the Trials of Osiris. i LIKE it, i like it a lot, but i think i speak for many average players when i say "it is very hard for me to actually enjoy it" the fact that i keep running into people who are hundreds of times better than i am simply means one thing and one thing only - i get destroyed, a LOT, and so is my 'fun'. now honestly - who here would enjoy having their ass handed over to them one game after another, one pass after another? ;) i know i am probably going to get a lot of hate for this, but hear me out please. i think Trial could be made BETTER, more ENJOYABLE, and for wider variety of Players, and the only thing it takes is,.... ....TADAAAAAAAAAAAA Matching against other Teams based on ACTUAL Skill/Performance. in case this ever happens i believe EVERYONE wins, as: a) the True 'Elite' PvP players will get matched against equally skilled players resulting in better challenge (a challenge they've been asking for since Destiny's launch), so they get a more enjoyable enviroment b) the Average player (i.e. ME, The N00B) will be matched against equally 'skilled' n00bs, so they actually get to compete and have a means to 'EARN' (...how i truly hate this word, but used it since many of the Elite players rub it into our average faces) the ToO weapons and armor b-b-b-b-ut, but what about 'The Lighthouse' the biggest special snowflake area in the whole of Destiny? it will get crowded with NOOBZ, the sacred place will be messed by all the unworthy-noob-scum!!!....you may ask NO! it won't, as if the matchmaking is based on performance, The N00B like me will start their ToO journey matched against equally unskilled players, but in case i win a bunch of matches, my combat rating will inevietably go up which means i WILL run into the Elite player at some point - i.e. going Flawless will still be very unlikely for the real n00b, however they will at least be able to collect more than 1-2 wins per pass, and a fair chance to claim some ToO rewards on sale at Vances' so, what do YOU think? bump if you like (or even if you don't) and comment if you will i am not saying my opinion is 100% right, but i do believe that it might sound like a fair 'solution' (if that word even applies) to what ToO is at the moment, making it accessible for more players, while still being the true 'Proving Ground' that separates The Best from The Rest. peace out EDIT: many seem to be misuderstanding my idea here. what i am suggesting is a matchmaking based on your ACTUAL performance in each weeks Trials, so in other words - as long as you keep winning you will be matched agains others who also keep winning, so that ONLY the Best players can make it through flawlessly, while having equally skilled competition along the way. also, preventing n00bs frmo going flawlessly, as even if they do win a few matches against other n00bs, their ACTUAL performance will improve and they will be matched against Good players at some point - as long as you keep loosing, you will be matched against others who are loosing, resulting in a pretty much equal competition even for the bad players. they won't go flawlessly, but playing against equally 'bad' players will result i close games enjoyable even for average players

    • TOO is meant to be difficult, so it's not for the "average player". If you wanted lower tier matchmaking the gear received would have to be lower tier as well.. Just like lower level pve has lower tier gear or higher has certain exclusives.

    • Bump Playing against others of the same skill would make it more satisfying, challenging, and fun. There's too many people who can go 9-0 almost everytime, that's not right for a "competitive" gamemode.

I would like to see them match make based on your current passage card. So if you are 0-0 you get matched up against other 0-0 players so could still come up against the pvp elite. When it becomes interesting is when you are 8-0 and you know that the game means the same for both teams. It will be the end of the flawless run for one of you. And if you lose a game you know you will come up against teams who also have the facility to lose and are not mlg pro players. Don't get me wrong I don't mind getting steam rolled by good teams, I will always try to learn from the experience, but get repeatedly gang banged can be a hard medicine to take. Of all the experiences in ToO I enjoy the most it is winning or lossing a match 5-4 to a team with equal skill level to mine. And for gods sake please make the next map not have such a clear advantage if you start on one particular side. I guess I may just be a scrub. But I am going to practice and improve myself... Im guna git gud.... Que rocky montage. ..

I understand your issue with the trials, however, I like that its hard. I have been a PvP player for a long time and have become very skilled,I feel a sense of accomplishment when I get to the lighthouse. I like that everyone has equal opportunity to get there (minus hacks and laggers) and that you could face anyone! Yesterday we faced a team that was freaking tough to beat, but we won after being down 3-0 and later 4-2, but we won! That was the last match I needed to get to the lighthouse and it felt great to get there with a tough victory! I won't say the harsh "git gud" BS because those people are stupid. However, I will say that I like that the lighthouse is only reachable for players who accomplish a 9-0 record. It is a sacred place for us PvP players. I hope you get there!

Matchmaking pools. You can only matchmake with people who are 3 wins higher or lower than you. But I am the opposite of you. I want it because there is not enough good competetion

        • Agreed 1) everyone can enjoy it, this way the players that aren't that good at PvP won't be constantly put against a bunch of tryhards 2) it will prevent people from being carried to the lighthouse since the opponents will be more on the skill lvl of the carrier.

          • If the whole 9 win thing stays then people will reverse boost. I think you should face people with similar win/loss as you for that specific passage only. Just my 2 cents.

          • I like this idea because of one simple fact. Not everyone is top tier good. My friends and i got destroyed by a whole bunch of flawless players and we're decent at PvP. Ranking players by skill/performance let's the good players play good players and get good rewards, while the elite players play elite players to get elite rewards. Even though I really want it, maybe keep the Lighthouse and the highest level stuff for those who go flawless on the highest rank only. The lower ranks can still earn rewards and it'll put the less skilled players together so there's a better chance to win. Maybe just go on wins and losses. 1-0 teams fight each other, then 2s and so on. To go flawless you'd still have to play at least one other near flawless team. Ooh and maybe put teams with two losses and no wins together for truly desperate fights. For me at least, it's less about getting the elite gear and more about wanting to feel that I'm actually competition and not a level 1 Fallen dreg that someone needs to blast away to get elite gear.

          • I understand the whole skilled matchmaking thing. but the thing that I don't understand, is if you're an average player, I only say that because that's what you've personally acknowledge yourself as, why do you go into Trials? The reveal stream for Trials was made clear by the head crucible design leader, that Trials of Osiris for the elite PvPers. That's what it was designed around, so now the hardcore PvP players have something that'll reward their skill every time they play. it doesn't make sense to me that people who admit they don't play pvp, or aren't good at it whatsoever, hop into trials. & then expect Bungie to make changes based upon it not catering to their more casual playstyle. I just don't understand why an average "noob" goes into the most competitive & elite playlist Destiny has to offer. Again, I understand skill based matchmaking. But it shouldn't be changed for the wrong reasons. All the other destiny matchmaking, more-or-less, DOES have "skill based" matchmaking. If I am carrying a 28 friend through a strike, I don't get matched w. Other 34s or 32s. Our third ends up being between 27-29. same goes for weekly heroic. Crucible doesn't do it because there's no level advantages. But I that's not skill, it's level. so idk.

          • It's not meant to be fair to everyone, it's not meant for scrubs or below average palyers to have a chance at getting to the Lighthouse. Life isn't fair, no participation trophy for you scrubs. You are not entitled to reap the same rewards we are. We earned our way in to the Lighthouse and now it's our job to stand watch and bump as many as you whining little unworthy bitches out by playing ToO as much as possible. +200 guardian tears collected

              • They could make it just like the halo ranked system. A 50 would be matched against other 50s and so on. Then in theory each game would be competitive, I know most if them were when I would play Halo 3 ranked

                  • This is a simple concept known as " arena rating ". Most pvp games will pit you against people within a percentage of points you have acquired. The high end ratings = highest rates gear. Didn't halo have this? Look up how WOW used to do it. You could of corse destroy your rating to be out against lower skilled players but...it's not something people ever really did. They also had skirmishes for practice...and that thing....what was it? Oh! .....fun.
