Shotguns don't belong in Destiny.

Thanks! -- I'm not butthurt, I don't suck at the Crucible (although I guarantee someone will look up my stats and try to tell me I do), I'm just telling it like it is. It's a matter of time to kill. Shotguns have effectively 0 time to kill, while most other weapons require several seconds to finish a fight. This is theoretically balanced by the fact that you have to be close to your opponent, but nearly every map in Destiny is rather small with narrow corridors. Plus, you have plenty of abilities to assist you. Melee can be activated immediately after a shotgun shot to guarantee the kill. Felwinter's Lie can be re-rolled until it becomes a sniper. Sunsingers can abuse their melee overshield. Strikers have shoulder charge to assist their gunplay. Blink can teleport you right in front of someone (if you delay the button press you effectively teleport forward). A shotgun is strong enough to instantly end a bladedancer's super. I'm sure there's more, but that was just off the top of my head. What about sniper rifles and fusion rifles, you ask? Sniper Rifles - Requires headshots or final round (which is only a OHK on high impact, low RoF snipers which are extremely high risk, high reward weapons) to kill instantly - Has extreme amounts of flinch if shot, even with Unflinching - Must be far away from your target, be using a low zoom sight, or get lucky - Hip fire is awful and aiming down sights takes extra time Fusion Rifles - stupid but not nearly as much as shotguns - Requires timing and accuracy to be successful - Will not kill instantly at range Essentially, instant kills are meant to be high risk, high reward scenarios, but there is almost no risk when using a shotgun, as I've explained. Remember to bump if you agree, otherwise feel free to prove me wrong. Edit 1: Added #Competitive tag Edit 2: Sure, shotguns are common in other games. But it's a power weapon in Halo, and in games like CoD other weapons have extremely low TTKs as well, so there's less of a discrepancy. My issue with them in Destiny is that in the same game you have weapons that kill in 0 seconds and weapons that kill in 3 or more seconds. Edit 3: Think of this as a request for bigger maps or nerfing secondary ammunition, if you wish.

  • A shotgun is a gun correct so any game with guns in it will have a shotGUN as well, case closed

    • Shotguns have their place. You have to be right in someone's face to even do damage. Either kill them before they get that close or shoot them with your own shotgun. Or use a grenade and punch them in the face.

        • Its not that shotguns don't belong as more destiny needs more maps that benefit things other than the shotgun. Think of the map layouts. Mostly midrange to up close and personal. Now if there were long range maps there would be maps that the shotgun wouldn't be as clear of a choice as it is right now.

            They have bigger maps moron. Stop playing the same mode style in Crucible. Oh, I almost forgot. Dismantle everything you own and delete every character and break/or delete your game data and go play something else. Another pvp'er crying about weapons. What a shock!

            • While they're at it, why not also remove Auto Rifles, Scout Rifles, Pulse Rifles, Hand Cannons, Fusion Rifles, Sniper Rifles, Machine Guns, Rocket Launchers, Grenades, Melee, and Moving

              • If you die more than twice to someone with a shotty in a match and can't adjust your approach... I'm sorry, you're bad. Once you know that's what someone is running, they're easy as hell to kill the rest of a match.

                • With fusions and snipers you can stay far away, shot guns are high risk because you either get a kill or not. Felwinters lie's ROF is so low if you miss a shot you're basically dead. Stop your complaining.

                  • I love my swordbreaker . May not need skill to kill with it but u do need a big sack of nutz to troll around your enemy to put it up his pooper and pull the trigger. If tou play camped in the back like a scared noob then no the shotgun wont work but uf your defendeing your objective it is a effective tool.

Shotguns TTK is based on [i]range[/i], [i]accuracy[/i], and [i]impact[/i]. Too far from target, less impact damage, less pellets on target, etc. Saying "0 time to kill" is a lie, even if it's not you're intent to lie, it's a lie. I can provide captured gameplay from last night using a full auto Crash shotgun with max 300 damage from 1.0 version weapons, and anywhere from 1 shot to 6 shots I was downing targets. AND downing "FelWinters Lie" users with Pocket Infinity KILLSTREAKS. It's situational. You can 1 shot with shotguns yes. Saying they are "0 time to kill" is not true. [/quote] No. Titans from captured gameplay last night were able to survive a point blank shotgun blast, and a follow up fully charged melee attack with either bonuses from their subclass shield boosts, or other. Making these over blanketing statements are false, and if any Dev from Bungie was in here, I'd love to read the logic behind your observations and the developers mathematics and facts.                             • Well, its is a shot gun....buck shot spread....known to blow wholes into its victims.....made fot people who like tobe close up in the action. They're made for people who like to dive right in the action, just like snipers are for the people who like to sit back and play it safe. I dont think you would want to run into a group of enemies and go gung-ho with a pulse rifle or something. I get where you're coming from, yes they can be annoying, but Any shooter game wouldn't be a shooter without a shotgun

                              • When you say 0 second time to kill, you're forgetting that you almost have to be touching the other player. That's huge risk/reward, which is exactly how you justified sniper rifles.

                                • I must say, you make valid points. Shotguns should have there range reduced because they have been a little op'd in that sense and you make an interesting point with the classes abilities bringing close quarters inbound. The maps do need to be a bit bigger with a balance of usage. Bungie needs to create a Blood Gulch for destiny and bring in a coop vehicle like he warthog and the falcon ;) fusions rifles are good when you get the timing down but the shotguns do get more usage and slight favor over the other two in most situations.

                                  • I 100% agree with this. However, what kind of a solution do you propose within the current game's standards? For me, I would like to see actual buckshot spread happening. A high impact shotgun would spread being a one hit at around 3 meters, where as a low impact would spread at around 6 meters. It would require individual gun tuning and not a blanket rework to the entire class of weapon. Perks would modify this of course, however it means high impact would be one shot cannons, and low impact would be sustained damage weapons. It would also help to bridge the gap between melee/close/medium ranges, as the only option for that right now is the fusion rifle. Essentially a no charge, less impact, faster firing fusionesque weapon.
