So, the Community Focus....does DeeJ even know what that means?
Sure sure, let's just focus on drumming up some guys twitter and YouTube sub's instead of, i don't know, addressing some of the issues the Community clearly voiced their opinions about this past weekend. I mean call me crazy and all but isn't that your job? Or is it to simply turn a blind eye to what is going on and set the Ninja's on us to quell the uprising.
You know what DeeJ? Why not just speak to the masses. If Bungie can't give us certain things then at least tell us why. Why not make a reply to "the update we will never get" and go through each point and tell us what Bungie can and can't do. Is it really that hard?
I am not asking that you pander to us and reply to every post on the forums but when something like this happens and clearly a lot of forum users get behind it, then I feel it is part of your job to reply and address the issue.
If you can not do this then I call for a vote of no confidence in our current community manager.
Bump if you agree.
Edit: Normally I don't get like this but let's look at what happened at the weekend. A lot of forum users got behind "The update we'll will never get". Before you say they didn't, sure there was only a hand full of posts covering the subject but each one had 100's of bumps of support. I understand that is only a tiny number compared to how many people play, but not everyone who plays voices their opinions on here.
Now how did Bungie manage the community on this subject? They had the posts removed. Sure it is their site and they have their rules but they invited us here in the 1st place. We are all paying guests at Hotel Destiny. A hotel that wants a 5* rating but whos level of customer service falls far short of that.
Edit 2: Ok I feel some of you think I am trying to shoot the messenger here but I am not. Let's put it like this. I don't want DeeJ to step down, I want him (Bungie) to step UP. Give those of us who have our doubts a reason to have confidence in him (you) again.
Simply sweeping away an issue that 100's of forum members got behind is not good Community Management. To be honest it is not so much what was in "The update we'll never get" that is important to me, it is the way a lot of people came together for a change to support something and then the way it was handled.
Edit 3: Over 500 replies. I'd like to say thanks for the constructive thoughts posted for and against what I am trying to say. I'm glad some understand and I'm even more happy that a few of those who didn't agree gave the time for polite discussion. How ever you feel though, stay true to your beliefs. I'm off to bed now (10.20 pm here) and I'll see how this all pans out in the morning.
Again, thanks to you all.

Bump I was excited to see there was something in the news section, but to my dismay they were bragging about some youtuber... That helps!
not
It seems he is more of a community visitor. The lack of information good/bad/indifferent is disappointing.
-
This is really nothing new. Since the first few weeks of the game our trust and confidence in deej and bungie both have gone continually downhill, and we have seen next to nothing in response to our repeated questioning.

1 ReplyEdited by Seven: 1/29/2015 4:08:34 PMDavid Dague currently regards himself as a king of men and a purveyor of information over a diverse community. While that makes him EASY to hate, due to his asinine handling of said community he believes to be a large part of, that doesn't mean DeeJ actually has any power to speak to a number of community complaints. It would be nice to see humbleness out of David, but that's seemingly not in his persona, he will continue his position acting without a good grounding in said community. Urk was good at doing the job, why? Well, it felt good to have Urk level with you, he was easy to trust and fun to blame, he sure as hell showed he cared more about the community interaction he could harbor over the power trip his title entailed. It seems in retrospect the reasoning behind that is that urk illicitly knew community manager isn't a real job of importance, it's a great position for one who can manage fans and interface with a chaotic mass of morons, but it isn't the "important work" in terms of the number of maintenance items, development jobs and even localization that works hard with no community outlet, to create what bungie truly cares about creating, the solid game keeps the community; while a community manager has a small place in making the community more bearable through struggles and celebrations of bungie' games, they don't have a huge pull on how any community issues are handled. Essentially "DeeJ is a peg boy" does hold true, the community wants a wholesome leader, not a jerk with his finger wedged up his prostate so that he can find pleasure for himself in his position all day long. Community manager is kind of the fall guy job, they are the messenger, and we are essentially an angry (and pitchforked) mob of toddlers, lording over the information and small power he has has made me regard DeeJ as having a disconnected large head, which I don't respect in the slightest. DeeJ is like the take over from Larry King, whom many trusted, wanted to hear from, and felt protected by, to Piers Morgan, a pompous jerk with opinions no one cares to hear, as he has failed to establish his position on the show and lacks that community trust the previous host had in high regard.

My only beef with DeeJ's style as community manager is I don't see how he is part of the community. He really only posts once a week. He doesn't dialog with fans on the forums. He focuses more on twitter and even then his interaction is sparse. I see more interaction on other sites and even playstation.com than I do here. It feels like his involvement is only what is minimally required. that's why the forums I think get out of control. If he worked on being part of the community more and allowed people to relate to him I think he'd have their ears more while we would feel he is listening to us. I can't blame him for the message he gives though as that's not on him. Sometimes he can be too cavalier about it without respecting the feelings of the fans. That being said...he isn't responsible for the content of the message...just how its delivered.

1 ReplyDeeJ r good guy who doesn't afraid of anything.
-
He doesn't have a clue - especially since this is first job in gaming! The douche answers more questions on Reddit and other sites than here, and doesn't even bother posting the replies here, totally unacceptable! And I also HATE when someone from bungie has an interview they never post it here, you have to go looking for it! When will these arrogant morons understand we don't and should't have to go trawling the internet to find important -blam!-ing news about the game we play! Everything that is posted or is news about the game should be posted here! FFS!
-
I understand that the job does entail many tasks and responsibilities and in the corporate world, blah blah blah. It's amazing how Bungie (DeeJ in particular) will bounce between, "We're so cool and relatable, let's talk about how cool we are and how we buck the trend of modern professionalism" and then they hike up their politician pants and are of to the races to write their updates and make design and business decisions. They're completely corporate in the way they operate, but not in the way they talk. I personally believe in the concept of deeds, not words. So if you want want to bro down and talk about getting smashed in meetings, by all means. But don't turn around and put out an update that could be put out by Congress. Be consistent, so we know how to set expectations, otherwise you'll get what the forums currently are.
-
Deej is good ppl y'all are too hard on him. You all fail to understand there's only so much he can do or can say. He's not going to share internal planning and ideas about development or what the team thinks about this or that. Those expectations are unrealistic. He'll never respond to criticisms about lack of content and story regardless of how respectful they might be. This would be folly for many reasons to be that transparent with the community.

2 RepliesCommunity focus has always been about spotlighting a member of the community who stands out. You've got it in the wrong context. And I would wholly have to disagree anyways. People aren't telling bungie anything they don't know already with these bug fix posts and the like. I think the real problem comes from the vocal minority on these forums. The ones who cry constantly for nerfs and other things. They are a small number but when they want something, they throw all their toys out of the box and make it a big deal. Those of us that enjoy the game and understand that game development is not an easy process just sit back and play the game. They will fix things one day. I'd imagine it will be in the period between house of wolves and the comet.

1 ReplyRemember what happened when their was a vote of no confidence for Chancellor Valorum? It passed, Palpatine took over, and the galaxy went straight to Hell. Careful what you wish for.
-
Edited by MullyMagic: 1/29/2015 5:25:37 PMI feel your frustration but Deej just passes on the news, the problems and attitude are rampant through the whole company I think not just him. Not the Bungie of old, just some guys faking it till they make it again (if ever).
-
1 ReplyYeah, well it's better than voting in a Sith Lord in disguise. And those "Update We'll Never Get" posts were removed because they were spam, not because they were some sort of cohesive rallying cry for the "masses". Make ONE post, bump it, have people reply in that post. It's common sense. One idiot who claimed the people making those posts were his "army". Yeah, show me one site admin for any site that wouldn't remove those posts.
-
Wait, we have a community and a community manager? What? I thought the only job Deej had was to play on various platforms, get killed, and then some people get to wear a certain emblem?
-
1 ReplyYou do realize that both Deej and Bungie are limited and restrained on what they can tell us right? Activision holds the reins and tells them what they can tell us and when. im sure bungie and Deej want to tell us everything they have going on, but can't. If you go back and read the weekly updates from when the whole "what happened to the game we were promised" thing happened in the first few months, you can see the strained way in which it is written and see how much they want to say something but cant.
-
This is what I first thought of with the title...
-
Remember when Urk did the weekly update? Ah... the good ol days. Polls, art contests, featured players... I really feel bad for anyone who didn't experience bungie in their golden days.
-
bump, why can't they give us an update on the issues and when they'll be resolved, so what if they over promise occasionally, the reaction won't be as bad as it is now also, why have a PvP fanboy as community manager?
-
1 ReplyThe community focus has always been a piece about members of the community, not a focus on community feedback. Those posts were removed because they were spam. Instead of bumping the main thread, they made copies and posted new threads. This violated forum rules and got those threads removed. Posting a direct reply to a thread like that is a no win situation for Deej. If he addresses each point, it will either be taken as gospel or blown off as lies. If he simply states that the complaint has been heard, he will be accused of blowing off the community and just trying to placate with empty words. At this point, the community is so toxic that any look ahead from Bungie will be taken as empty. The only thing that will be taken seriously is when the patches go live, but, honestly, people will still find a way to "prove" how they don't listen anyway.
