So you hyped up this big gift and everything. The cryptarch holding a present, it's been everywhere. And almost everyone gets a crap legendary that we already have.

1 ReplyMeh I got a decent pvp sniper looking forward to trying it out. Wasn't expecting anything useful, I'm a raider after all. A field scout devil would've been nice though
-
2 RepliesThe community overhyped it, not Bungie. The picture was just a picture, not a hint of what was to come; it was meant to be a fun image for the holiday, no different than perhaps an image of a Vandal stealing Santa's sleigh. Had then been the picture, would you have considered that hype for a new sleigh-shaped sparrow? The community and the "ZOMG WE'RE GETTING FREE EXOTICS" mindset is to blame here, not Bungie.

3 RepliesEdited by DRG JupiterIvan: 1/9/2015 2:50:28 AMI have to agree with the people here. Bungievision didn't hype the gift, hell I didn't even expect it to be a weapon. That being said I am waaaaay disappointed with what they have given us. They could have done something way more interesting. Some people were happy others weren't, I mean what some of us got was the equivalent of a story I will now share with you. AHEM! When I was younger I couldn't wait for Christmas. What was I going to get? What did Santa get me? Christmas morning I ran to he living room and tore into my presents! So many new things including a brand new Gameboy advanced SP! I went to my stocking to see what Santa got me and it was filled to the brim with batteries! My parents casually giggled and said, "Looks like Santa knew you'd be getting a handheld now you're set on batteries." At which point my childhood imagination was shattered because for all of you that may not know the SP was the start of chargeable handheld systems. Those batteries were of no use to me. Just like the Time on Target that I got. What would have been neat and what I expected to see was a new holiday themed shader. Nothing amazing like an exotic, nothing that actually effected you as a player, just a red and white shader. That's all I expected. Instead I got a legendary I already had and dismantled.

Edited by Hippo_Legacy: 1/9/2015 3:00:32 AMBungie didn't hype shit. The players hyped it up themselves then got pissed when it wasn't what they imagined it would be
-
6 RepliesNah they barely mentioned it. Used the word small twice in vague descriptions.

Players over hyped the gift like most of us over hyped the game. It seems most of the community exaggerates everything Bungie says. We really need to stop expecting extravagance. This game hasn't surpassed any of our expectations...ever... why should we be so naive to think they would start now. Personally, I'm content. This game is still good and I enjoy it immensely but the Destiny hype train is a one way ticket to disappointment. I've learned to take everything they say with a grain of salt.
So you hyped up this big gift and everything. The cryptarch holding a present, it's been everywhere. And almost everyone gets a crap legendary that we already have.
In NO WAY at all did they overhype the Christmas gift. If you thoroughly and carefully read the update, you'll know what I'm talking about. The only people who overhyped the Christmas gift were the people going around telling their friends it'd probably be an exotic engram. Also, this is the Internet - so if someone says something, it becomes a fact to some who fail to stray from the heard of sheepeople
-
Bungie sure didn't hype it. One post way before holiday season
-
I didn't hear about it till i got one. I got my third Payback SOS. Atleast it wasn't as bad as getting my fourth Badger CCL from Nightfall (the rest from engrams, shoot me)
-
There was so much hype I was almost convinced I would be opening it and finding the cure for cancer, not a weapon.
-
Yes it was way over hyped
-
1 ReplyThe only idiots that overhyped were the players. Bungie did well. Complainers need to burn in hell
-
The forum bots are happy little n a z i s
-
...No. Bungie said they were STOCKING STUFFERS, I think people forget what actual goes into stocking on Christmas. Little nic-nacs that get forgotten about a month later.
-
No. Is destiny overhyped? Yes.
-
Bungie seems to over-hype everything they do.
-
Nothing behind the door can beat the expectations you imagined. If it was a legendary engram you would of wanted an exotic engram. If it was an exotic engram you would of complained if you got something you already have.So on and so fourth

3 RepliesEdited by xLucidxRequiemx: 1/8/2015 5:30:25 PMI don’t know how to be any clearer about this. Here are Bungie’s exact tweets: two of them, and not over the course of a few weeks, although you’re welcome to direct me to what you were referring to: 1/6: Lots of Qs about the holiday gift. No Bjallarhorns. No need to decrypt, either, though we’re sure some gifts will be swiftly dismantled. 1/5: A small, but Legendary token of gratitude is being prepped for delivery later this week. We’ll let you know when to check the Postmaster. The only other thing on their official feed was a picture of the Cryptarch holding a purple (legendary) present. What did you expect?
-
1 ReplyOnly the community hyped it... Bungie didn't.

Did no one even look at the picture on bungies front page? It's the cryptarch with a legendary engram... It's a shame people can't understand what's in front of them.

Destiny has thrived on hype. i like the game, but i didnt plan on buying the game until mid august, so the hype wasn't there, for me. but the game, gift, dlc. all overhyped. I think its not even Bungie, but our expectation of them "making it right" that we think they are going to make some grand firework display and they aren't, because even if they dumped a pile on our laps, our expectations would be so high, we will buy it, hoping to find a gold nugget in the crap. i would just be happy if they continued to make gear like "Don't Touch Me" and "Black Hammer" "IceBreaker" and "Ghallahorn" for future installments of the game.

All they did was post a picture and say we were going to get a gift. The people are the ones who overhyped it. I saw one guy, legitimately pissed off because he got it stuck in his head that we were all going to get an exotic of our choosing. He already knew what he was going to pick too, a gjallarhorn. Shocker.
