it's pathetic that Microsoft and Sony can't prevent hackers!
It's so damn pathetic that Microsoft and Sony can't prevent this hacking bullshit. Every time you get on Xbox or PlayStation the online gaming servers are always down! Seriously we pay $400 to $500 dollars on consoles and this is the shit we get?! Come the hell on now.

It wasn't hackers is was just the pure amount of people getting ps4s/xbones and then registering them which overloaded their servers.

I think that everyone felling butt hurt by the outage should get some perspective and take some time of whining, instead of bitching and constantly thinking you are always owed something. He isn't whining about christmas if you look at the title and the post itself, it doesn't say christmas once, the fact that it is happening at all to two billion dollar companies is the point of the post. Also, this isn't an isolated incident Lizard squad has done this many times before and he is, like many of us, frustrated that this trend keeps continuing.

8 Replies1. These are not hackers 2. Distributed Denial of Service attacks are essentially overloading a server 3. Microsoft and Sony would have little in the way of defense since it's not a single point of attack. A DDOS works by rerouting and directing Internet traffic (maybe even the data you used for this post) to a single point. So the data could be coming from thousands of other servers - and it could be legit data. That's what further makes anyone doing this a little douche worthy of disease. It's a scummy way to attack people and LS has no purpose other than to disrupt people's lives.

First, it's not a hack, it's a ddos attack which basicly means that a lot of devices are connecting to the same point at the same time. This doesn't has to be a ddos attack, but it surely is one, let me explain to you why. If a lot of devices connect at the same time, you need a lot of servers to handle the trafic. Usualy big companies like sony or microsoft lend more servers to cover the extra power needed for christmas. This costs them a lot of money, because the servers/time aren't cheap and they need a lot of them. Why the servers are down, scenario 1: They borrowed not enough servers and did their math wrong or were to greedy. I don't think this is the case, because they know exactly how many devices they have sold. scanario 2: Some stupid kids use a ddos attack to get the servers down. Microsoft or Sony can't know how many devices the kids are using and this is why they can't prevent the problem. It cost them a fortune already. They can't really do anything about it. The only thing they could do is to use more servers and use a better load balancing, but they won't do this, because again.. money..

It's not an issue of them being unprepared, it's just an issue that can't be surpassed with current technology (without spending WAY too much money)
