So I was looking to beat Crota yesterday and posted on the forum. After a few minutes I get invited to a game. It was just me and him (I'll call him dude from now on) at first. Dude messaged me that his mic doesn't work but he can hear me. I told him that a lot of people might not be down but I'll hang for a few minutes. Five minutes later we had a full team. I told the team that dude couldn't speak but could hear us. Anytime dude wanted to say something or ask something he messaged me (smartglass on my phone is clutch).
So, we go to start and everyone asks who wants to use the sword. Everyone hesitates. Dude messages me and says he'll do it. Team is ready and we begin.
In our first attempt we got Crota down to half health before the wipe. All in all, our team had promise. After a few more wipes and some glitches (crota followed dude off the bridge and ran up the stairs. It was hilarious) we finally beat crota. We started calling dude the silent assassin. Dude then messaged me again saying "not bad for first time holding the sword?"
Not bad at all dude.
Needless to say we added each other since the team was very cohesive.
So don't dismiss the mic less. Sometimes they can have a lot of skill that can be just what you need to get things done.
edit: thanks for all the feedback and stories. I like seeing players with a sense of community.

It's great. I have a mic, but for some reason if I turn it on it mutes everything and everyone else. So I don't use it. And it's never given me any trouble in the raid. If you can't raid without a mic after completing it several times, you're doing something wrong.
-
Given the choice between a "silent assassin" who plays well as part of a team, or an individual who use's the mic simply to chew your ear off with verbal diarrhea and abuse ...I'd take the "silent assassin" any day of the week.
-
If you're just a random without a mic trying to Raid on my Team, you're getting kicked ASAP!
-
I am micless too,and my friends calls me Peter Dinklage for no reason and i am pretty skillful. I did my first raid with them and my first hard raid with them with no failures.

7 RepliesThe people who say they won't play with someone without a mic are probably the same people who need to be carried.

1 ReplyThe Dude abides!

My friend on PS3... 'Ravoroth' He's great at this game. Hell, I don't even need to invite him, he sometimes just asks if I need help. I was doing the 3 main quests from Eris and after soloing the first he asked if I wanted some help and he joined right. From their me an him beat them all and got out Murmurs. Also did a lot of the urn bounty (but ended up angry when we both lost all our sullen hearts <I had 50, he had 80>) When making a raid team, he is easily one of te first people I invite, mic or not, people with skill are assets to victory.

4 RepliesPs4s come with a mic. If you don't speak or call shit out you Will be booted from my fire team 100% of the time.

3 RepliesMics are op needs nerfed
-
1 ReplyWe had a guy without a mic leading the team through messaging a guy with instruction . Still I will always be hesitant at not being able to communicate properly
-
My dog busted my mic jumping on the sofa Can't do the raid now
-
1 ReplyPraise the dude. :D

2 RepliesRegularly play with someone who doesn't have a mic. Met doing the raid. They listen and point out anything using the actions. We do just fine.
-
Not sure if this is relevant, but if you have a Bluetooth headset for your cell phone, then you can also pair that to the PS and communicate with team members.
-
I dont want people without one but thats just me i dont force anyone to do something they arnt comfortble with hence why i clearly state that they need one.
-
I am one of he micless and I have beaten crota twice and finnished every single raid without a mic...
-
5 RepliesYes to all of this! I'm currently micless... I had to convince a whole fireteam thru messages that I was capable of the vog raid. We ended up completing it. :) with good communication. So yeah. We can hear yall... Don't write us off.
-
1 ReplyI have a mic, but I just don't like talking. I rather let my skill talk.
-
1 Replyi don't have a mic and do VoG normal and hard. if you know wtf you're doing and can handle any given situation the mic isn't needed at all. One person per team with a mic (so we can fire at his mark for example) is all that's needed.
-
7 RepliesIn reality only bad players rely on clutch gear like mics, cause only the "raid leader" needs a mic to call out orders and delegate gameplays. Something a lot of Destiny players dont seem to understand
-
1 ReplyA mic costs $10, buy one.
-
Doesn't a PlayStation come with a free wired headset with mic?

6 RepliesLove threads like this one. I AM mic-less on Destiny, the main reason is because my husband jimmymare is in my fireteam all the time and he is in the same room as me. If I have anything to say during Raid, I will tell him, and he can convey to the rest of the team. And yes I was level 29 when I wanted to try Crota's End, needless to say I am put off by a lot of people biased to ONLY having level 30 and above in their team. I posted a message on the forum welcoming players who are level 29 as long as you know how to take instruction (or you know what to do) and comfortable with playing Southeast Asia timing. I really appreciate players who can stick around and not leave after 30mins (for Raids). I have a guy in my fireteam who doesn't have a mic, the lowest level when we were playing VOG, and he joined us for Crota's Raid performing better than players who are level 30 I can tell ya! Main thing is because he sticks to the team strategy instead of insisting of doing things HIS OWN WAYS.
