don't dismiss those without mics

So I was looking to beat Crota yesterday and posted on the forum. After a few minutes I get invited to a game. It was just me and him (I'll call him dude from now on) at first. Dude messaged me that his mic doesn't work but he can hear me. I told him that a lot of people might not be down but I'll hang for a few minutes. Five minutes later we had a full team. I told the team that dude couldn't speak but could hear us. Anytime dude wanted to say something or ask something he messaged me (smartglass on my phone is clutch). So, we go to start and everyone asks who wants to use the sword. Everyone hesitates. Dude messages me and says he'll do it. Team is ready and we begin. In our first attempt we got Crota down to half health before the wipe. All in all, our team had promise. After a few more wipes and some glitches (crota followed dude off the bridge and ran up the stairs. It was hilarious) we finally beat crota. We started calling dude the silent assassin. Dude then messaged me again saying "not bad for first time holding the sword?" Not bad at all dude. Needless to say we added each other since the team was very cohesive. So don't dismiss the mic less. Sometimes they can have a lot of skill that can be just what you need to get things done. edit: thanks for all the feedback and stories. I like seeing players with a sense of community.

    • I'm confused... Is this a PS3/Xbox360 thing... Because both PS4 and XB1 ship with headsets including mic? The PS4 one was trash and so I'm currently using 4th gen iPhone headphones which also work, until I buy something better.

      • Yeah I got buddies who can here but mic crapped out. Or the on at college and he stays connected to came but mic just won't work so. If they can hear good. Lol I played without hearing a few times. They punch me and shoot at my spot. Usually bc I'm on the phone. But u res ppl solo gates. Destroyed praetorians on other side. They knew that our raid time was my woman coming home from work so they just tell randoms he knows his job, and I'll smart glass changes to him. Usually done with Crota before then.

      • We played with a 30 warlock sans mike on Vog hard, and he was relic holder at Templar. We told him to dance every time he was going to shoot his shields. Only 2 wipes.

        • I didn't have my mic In yesterday doing a raid and they were about to kick me but they just wanted to finish the raid but they were struggling. Without hesitation, I waved to the fire team leader, took over relic duty because that's my specialty, and we finished that try.

        • I asked some dude to leave my Fireteam yesterday before I did VoG because he had no mic, and now I feel bad because I never saw what he was capable of. Ill keep this post in mind from now on.

        • If there is someone who doesn't have a mic or isn't experienced they get kicked. I cannot stand lack of communication. Especially in raids.

        • I plug a mic in just so people see I have one but I rarely say anything to the people in game unless I'm alone. Usually it's much too busy with my roommates and gf bothering me

          • Personally, this sounds like me. I hardly ever speak during a raid. But the people I play with trust me because I'm -blam!-ing beast with the hunter. They don't question anything. They know my play style. I've played with randoms as well and I still hardly ever speak. Too focused on kicking ass and trying to concentrate. Even then no one asks why I don't speak. My skill speaks for itself. Still haven't tried the new raid yet though.

While the story in the OP is cool, he attempted to find a way to communicate. Which is probably the issue with the MIC-less. Your silent assasin tried to communicate. With that said, short of not being able to talk because it being late or whatever, I think everybody should have a mic. Hell, even the horrible iPhone headphones are better than nothing.

              • Did a raid recently. One guy didn't have a Mic and it screwed us over every attdmpt against Atheon. He didn't even know what he was doing. I understand some people don't have great NAT's or are shy, but seriously, don't screw an entire raid team over.

              • I have a mic that I use from time to time but being a father of two little girls there always running around and yelling. So Ill just jump back and forth muting and unmuting.if in a raid or something ill say so and so is coming or wherever and mute. So usually I don't say too much but I can hear of course.sometimes though I forget what I have it on, and the other day my fireteam heard my daughter sing and entire song from frozen haha.3 minutes people were talking but noone said anything about the singing so it never occurred to me it was unmuted. Then one of the guys at the end was like "whoever was just singing the was beautiful "haha. I said "oh shit, sorry guys"

              • No Mic might be fine, but you clearly needed Glass for communication. Which goes to show, as long as you have some sort of communication you'll be fine, but you do need that communication, even if just a few times.

              • Nice. Good to see the new raid accommodates both mic-ed and mic-less. I ran without a mic for a while, only time in VoG it actually mattered was cleansing, if you can't call to cleanse you're basically dead and I understand when the rush is on forgetting someone needs it. You can run the entire raid without a mic as long as you can hear commands and make simple gestures, but cleansing is just a super B. Went and bought a fresh mic just for that. Now all I have to complain about is players blasting music in the background.

I dont mind if you dont have a mic, as long as you aren't the raid lead and can hear us, im quite happy for you not to speak, and I try my best to do likewise. talking is distracting. There are a few times in which communication is good, "I will do this", "this has just happened", etc. but there are also times its just people cursing and saying stuff that is plain wrong. If you plan ahead there is little need for communication during, and communication during the planning stage doesn't need to be instant. so that's fine.

I dont like using a mic because people find it hard to understand me unless they come from my area of Scotland, its better than constantly getting asked to repeat myself but some dont get that, they would rather have me with a mic and getting annoyed because they dont understand me, its ruined endgame material in this game for me.
