Im seeing a lot of confusion with the new DLC and i just thought id clear up some of the most common questions.
1st thing is that you can buy new armor to reach a maximum light lvl of 31 from any of the tower factions, crucible handler, and vanguard vendors.
SOME of these new pieces of gear in the tower require a COMMENDATION, which are achieved by reaching your next rank in crucible or vanguard rep. Ranking a faction up with result in a crucible commendation.
ONLY chests and helmets (weapons as well) will require commendations.
Take note that any gear purchased in the tower will not allow you reach the new light lvl cap of 32. (Same deal as before the dlc) This level can only be achieved by getting a full raid set from the dark below OR 3 pieces of new raid gear and an exotic that has been reset through xur to match the increased light lvl.
One last thing to anyone who complains about these vendors selling gear better than the vault of glass gear... Its the exact same situation as before the dlc, tower gear before dlc got you to 29 but if you wanted to be a 30 you had to grind the raid. The same exact situation is happing now but with lvl 31 and 32 so your complaints are invalid.
Have fun ranking up out there ya'll!! :)
Ps. If you could drop a like and comment to get the word out that would be appreciated

2 RepliesThe problem is is that its the exact same situation. Nothing we did before the dlc really matters like at all and its sad. I feel like a level 26 again. If this is what's going to happen there is no reason to do the raid more than a couple times because surely the house if wolves will have 1 upd vender gear over the Crotas end gear. Not only that but most people were going to continue doing VoG but now majority agree the only reason to do it is for the vmc. I'm not just upset about feeling like my time and effort has been wasted. It also just doesn't seem logical for the future. To say this is a logical next step is foolish having the vendors sell 30 light gear for marks and commendations always would have been perfect in my eyes. It's a catch up mechanic. Right now you can behind in gear and then immediately jump ahead. Giving out better gear than raid gear is just the dumbest thing I have seen in this game. Like look at the freaking queens missions. You had to work for gear you probably didn't want now they are giving away gear you earn marks and rank passively you don't even have to go out of your way at all and you get a ridiculous reward for it.

17 RepliesMan, I'm so tired of all the whiny bitches on this forum. It's unreal, I've never seen so many little c#nts in my whole life. I'm embarrassed that I share any hobbies with the people who make these non stop belly aching posts on here. I wish there was some way to filter all the bitching and just read the posts written by adults who realize this is just a game intended for enjoyment and relaxation.

it's cool , just sad they made VOG irrelevant at the moment . I mean you could farm shards... but that is it. I hope they will get us a new game mode or scale it up , combine with some new bounties, in order to farm glimmer, rep etc... I have a friend starting to play Destiny and now I must tell him he completely missed the VOG ??

3 RepliesDLC's like this do nothing but arbitrarily create a system meant only to keep players in game doing pointless activities that, within a few months, make all prior work useless. Why should I have to grind for another 3 months to get a faction weapon that is exactly the same just slightly more powerful? Why should I spend my time to grind and get Iron banner armor not once, but twice, only for it to be outdated before I even upgrade it? All legendary armor and weapons should be upgradable just like the exotics. We should not have to pay to reset the stats. It isn't fair to gamers to have to pay to start at the same point the new plays are starting at. I grind to get a weapon, grind to get it upgraded, and now I have to grind to reset it and grind to upgrade again? While a new player grinds to get it then upgrade. How is that fair? It is people like you who keep defending these corporations that allow them to continually pull this stuff. Your only rebuttal is that "MMO's have always been like this". Yeah that's because people like you don't complain! Just because something has always been done doesn't mean its right.

2 RepliesFeel like i just wasted ALL of my time playing Destiny thus far with this update, will not be playing anymore, such a waste of time. Literally everything was a waste of time, someone could make a new account and be just as good as someone playing since day one with this garbage, so incredibly frustrating. Screw Destiny and this DLC
-
It is a crap design that trivializes everything we have done.
-
It added on to the game, there is more stuff to do. People saying that they feel like they wasted their time aren't making sense. By the same logic might as well never play any game ever because a better one will be out in the future. VoG is now outdated, get over it. There is new gear, get over it. You DID waste your time by playing a game, that's what it is, entertainment. Again these are the bitchiest forums ever, did everyone expect it to add on stuff that was weaker than anything already in the game? They are doing a great job and have made a really good game that blurs genre lines and everyone just whines about everything. Go play the game if you enjoy it, if you don't then go outside.
-
4 RepliesSo, you're saying it's all cool that we lost hundreds of hours of gameplay? Might as well wait until the next DLC and save the time because we'll be able to buy lvl 33 gear.
-
Il stop complaining when you stop complaining about people complaining.
-
Its funny how many people dont understand / complain about this.

22 RepliesThis comment makes perfect sense, if you don't mind paying Bungie for the opportunity to grind for more gear again now that everything you own is second class. What you're missing is that by not providing an upgrade path for existing legendary weapons and armor, Bungie is in effect telling us that all the work we've done to this point has been wasted, and we have to start from scratch to get the best gear (or even the second best gear in the case of non-raid armor, but still better than what we currently have). Taking that a step further, the grinding we do in The Dark Below will become pointless once the next DLC comes out and we have to start from scratch again. Telling your customer base that buying the latest DLC will only keep you in the best gear for the next three months (and then only if you do a lot of grinding) is not a wise business model. With that in mind, I recommend anyone who loves the gameplay but hates the grinding to ignore the DLC and just play the base game. The new content is minimal anyway, so all you'll be missing out on is the grinding.

Edited by Technomancer: 12/10/2014 1:23:38 PMYou mean i get to take weeks getting all the stuff to BUY the gear i should be finding? Just to Almost reach the level cap? Again? Awesome.

31 RepliesEdited by ash: 12/10/2014 5:19:30 AMI think you miss the heart of the problem. You can explain the design, but that doesn't make the design ideal. One consequence is that VoG's rewards are rendered pointless by these vendors... Not just with the release of The Dark Below, I mean that this update means VoG gear was always pointless. That's never happened before in Destiny (which is why it's not the "exact same situation as before the dlc"). Why do NM VoG? To help you beat HM VoG. Why do HM VoG? Well... I don't exactly know anymore. I would have assumed it was supposed to help you progress. But IMO it doesn't. Crota's End launched with a suite of more easily obtained, superior gear to anything found in HM VoG. So from a progression stand-point, why did we do VoG at all? And why should we do Crota's End HM? Will the CE rewards be outclassed the moment House of Wolves' launches too? Now, the raids are fun. That's reason enough to do them IMO. But you may as well not have levels attached to the gear if this is how the loot system works. There may as well not be a progression system if you can't progress through the game via the hardest content. The only way you can progress through the game right now, is by running repetitive Strikes. By "progress" I mean obtaining gear that helps you to overcome a harder piece of content. By that definition, raid drops are just cosmetic. They give you a little number next to your name like "30" or "32". But that's it. If you reach Level 32, congratulations, but that number won't do anything for you with the launch of the next DLC (if this progression formula holds). A simple solution would be to either patch the vendor gear to Level 30. Or patch the VoG gear to Level 31. And then preferably give every piece of raid equipment a new talent, a slight bonus to damage/armour while inside a raid. That would mean VoG gear is required to give you the best chance in the upcoming raid. And Crota's End gear is required to give you the best chance in the next raid after that. And so on.

i completely understand this concept how ever i am a little heartbroken as i just recented started to raid, got enough gear to hit 30 recently , it does suck after all that to hit 30, and now u can hit 31 in the towers, it sucks, but i understand just have to buy the tower gear, and do the raid to get the 32, just have to start it as soon as i can , witch will be this week

2 RepliesI like how all the people telling us to stop whining completed the raid less than 15 times... It took me 40 plus times to get 2 characters to 30... Which was a waste of time. There is no defending this poor design decision.
-
Yea that's all cool but I guess buying some vendor gear to get to 31 sucks a bit for me because it makes my hard earned full raid gear redundant at level 30! I'm just saying personally to stick my raid gear in the vault is a bit sad. I suppose I'll still have my vex as a nice trophy item! I might go for full dead orbit outfit in black! :)

6 RepliesAm I the only person here that sees being at max light level only serves TWO purposes? Being able to run hard raids and being at max defense for iron banner. Other than that, all this whining about the level cap increase is unjustified. Seriously guys, the weeklies and dailies drop you down to the respected level of difficulty they are set at if you are higher, and level in crucible means naught. NOT everyone plays the raids (myself included), and the gear stats are more or less for completing the raid easier (oracle and praetorian damage buffs). Other than that, the raid gear, at least to me, isn't even that appealing. Why would i want to look the same as everyone else, and why use armor with perks that don't suit my play style or class setup? Just for a number next to my name? I think not. Only real benefits to the raids are the weapons to me. But with a plethora of other weapons, i can live without the 2-3 that are specific to the raids.

Ah, that does help a bit. I was wondering how I would acquire the commendations for some of the armors and all of the weapons. I already thought that maybe I had to rank up to get these, but you just confirmed that. I do wish however that they would have at least given us one commendation to start with xD or at least give us an option to earn one by completing one of the new missions or something, that would be nice to start with at least. Not a big complaint or anything, just speaking outloud. Do you have to fully rank out your Exotic gear to upgrade it again though? It would be a bit of a hassle for the weapons at least to maximize their potential once more, even with telemtries the process was pretty slow. O another note, to help cheer people up, for those who have the Dark Below DLC, Legendary Engrams DO have a chance to drop the new weapons. I got a new Pulse Rifle, The Three Words or whatever it is xD and it's pretty nice. I also got the Murmur Fusion Rifle, and that's a thing of beauty in and of itself. Just the option to change from either Arc to Solar damage and vice versa is enough for me. Wicked little piece, truly a worthy weapon.
-
IMO, I think they should add a third difficulty lvl to the VoG, being equal with the Crota's End HM. That way people will get a bit more customization for their lvl 32, and the VoG doesn't get too outdated.
-
True, but it would be nice if we were given the chance to upgrade our existing gear.
-
So I cant mix and match raid gear to reach the cap lvl either? Bummer, I was hoping we could mix armors up more for that unique feel.
-
I could care less about the tower gear raising levels and making other things not as good. I am just supremely disappointed in the lack of any of it being new. For the amazing art that we know Bungie can do... there is only... atl east from the vendors one new armor skin per item per class.... Now we all get to hit level 32 and look exactly the same as one another again. If Bungie wants us to feel like our characters mean something how about a little more individuality. Most of the guns being sold are the same model just with different colors on them. I was excited to see some new skins with this update to make starting new gear worth it... feels rather underwhelming at the moment. This game needs more weapon and armor skins.

This game is FUBAR

1 ReplyI don't mind the way its done, I think it keeps it fresh for everyone, now I got to start all over, I hit 30, had great weapons, played some tough bosses and it was starting to get dull. Who cares if a 10 yr old kid comes in today and gets to 31 you only go in with 6 people at a time. Hell I just got murmur accidentally hit my square button and trashed it, will I be able to pick that up elsewhere in the game by the way. Any way to me it seems that its just a new game

Thank you for taking the time to explain it.

Helpful. Thanks
