I still don't understand why people think the flag is racist, it represents southern heritage. The school might as well become a dictatorship. Should I sue?

1 ReplyI honestly don't understand the want to be part of that heritage you don't see Germans using -godwinslaw!- flags for nostalgia I know it's a false equivalent but both are representative of bad times in history! I am just curious how you can be OK with enjoying that part of your history. I'm not saying it's racist but the heritage that flag represents isn't very fair by any means.

Keep the flag, keep the flag, keep the flag *read in chanting voice*

Good
why do you want anything to do with that flag?
-
Take it down fgt
-
Well, it supports a heritage of racism, but whatever

5 RepliesIt's okay. My brother got detention for 3 weeks for wearing a shirt that said "saloon."
He wore a shirt the next day that said "bar," and his friend's shirt said "pub." Guess what? Neither of them got in trouble for it.
Edited by DeChief: 6/27/2015 8:55:19 AMRightfully so. Why don't you try a swastika next?

I like to quote one of my favorite books "It's not what you say, it's what people hear." I'm sure you didn't mean harm, but think about how others might view that symbol.

A fedora tipper and edgy 13 year old who doesn't have internet is trying to insult me

Edited by Sonic Roctopus: 6/27/2015 5:53:12 AMYou should not have been suspended. But I do think the confederate flag has met its end(which is weird since the confederacy ended a long long time ago). This is a tough one. Because a lot of people do see race issues attached to it. But to many it can be all about southern pride. Id say take the loss and create southern pride in other ways( they already have great music and food). If you can help to not hurt people feelings, that's a great thing.

Edited by asir: 6/27/2015 5:49:37 AMOf course you should have been suspended. That flag hurts peoples' feelings. I'm pretty sure i heard it call that guy a -blam!-.

You mean the dukes of hazard flag

Edited by LegendarySyn: 6/27/2015 5:36:26 AMWhy do people keep necro-bumping posts?

That stupid

Edited by CheckinMuhPrivs: 6/26/2015 2:44:29 AMYo, if people thought wearing the color red was racist, would you not wear the color red anymore? Will all of you allow external powers to dictate what you can and cannot wear and say? Everybody was fine with the old Conferedate until the media (NAACP, and others as well) decided to connect a mentally ill drug addicts attack on black churchgoers with the flag. That flag has been the target of the NAACP for the past 70 years, and regardless of how you feel about it, it's an important symbol of the right to resist federal mandate, and by extension, a valuable part of what was once a mostly Caucasian America.

You can sue for oppression of your freedom of speech rights. Same thing happened to someone I know and they settled for 25k
-
The purpose of the flag and history behind it is racist despite your non-racist intentions. Yes, it's unfair but not much you can do, also don't sue...that'd be a disaster.

Technically it represents rebellion and slavery. But who gives a -blam!- is my question? I had the Darwin fish on my backpack when I was in high school and I got nothing for it. People were always like you're going to hell or something and so I said "even if God were real, would he be happier that I am thinking for myself or that you are criticizing people that aren't like you?"
-
3 RepliesI'm not saying I find the "rebel flag" racist, but I'm also white. If I was black and I saw some dudes hanging around, wearing it, and flying it, I'd probably walk a lot faster. I personally like what it initially symbolized, because it was a battle flag. Men fought under it for their homes, and more importantly, for their brothers. Again, I like what it represented originally, but it's pretty hard to argue that it isn't racist. Or at least used for racist purposes. Just a side note from a soldier to those of you that never had the pleasure of serving, or aren't too familiar with the military, we fight for each other. We normally don't care much about government policy. We love each other, and we love our homes. Just keep that in mind when you're tempted to throw a blanket statement over people. Not all, or even most, Confederate soldiers cared one way or the other about slavery.

confederates weren’t Americans. They were actual, honest-to-god Not Americans; that was the whole -blam!-ing point of the Civil War. They were a bunch of people who collectively said “-blam!- America” and then spent years desperately fighting in order to not be Americans anymore. Flying the Confederate flag doesn’t honor Americans, it honors Confederates, and they don’t exist anymore because they lost the war, so there is no goddamn point to this flag ever at all. Right-wing folks really love to talk about “anti-American sentiments” and “treason” until it comes to the (white) people who actually did commit treason and were anti-American in every sense of the word
-
5 RepliesDon't get me wrong fly whatever flag you want, but that flag will always be slightly racist in my eyes. They did some fcked up shit to slaves that can never be forgotten
-
16 RepliesThis is the only flag you should be flying, mother-blam!-er.

3 RepliesAll I have to say is duck dynasty and honey boo boo

1 ReplyWhile you may find this symbol to be innocent, in the eyes and minds of many, it is representative of white people who dominated a race of people through hate and fear. I understand the underlying sentiment but most people don't.
-
3 RepliesIt's the flag of a separatist army that fought for years to keep an entire race of people enslaved. It's basically the definition of a symbol of racism.

7 RepliesAs you should have.
