I still don't understand why people think the flag is racist, it represents southern heritage. The school might as well become a dictatorship. Should I sue?

1 ReplySouthern or northern what's the point? We're all American, but if you really want a flag to show your heritage they have state flags for a reason...why are people so pissy about the shitty flag?
-
5 RepliesI'll just leave this here.

2 RepliesConsidering your age, I highly doubt you have a truck. Yes I realize this is a while back

3 RepliesDammit why do all even respond it's a b8 post made a long time ago

1 ReplyIt's just a piece of cloth, It's neither racist or heritage. It is a symbol of division just like any other flag. Create your own. Why is it considered racist? (I'm British so not to familiar with American problems)

Yes, the confederate flag is southern heritage. It just so happens that the south has a racist heritage. The supreme Court has already ruled on the free speech of students several times. You'd lose.

1 ReplyThis thread has infinitely more context now.

3 RepliesGotta get the confederate flag that says 'Heritage not Hate' it will probably be acceptable.

Yes. It's freedom of speech. Last time I checked thats a constitutional right.

4 RepliesI wouldn't ever wear the Confederate flag, that's my choice. If you want to wear it and fly it, that's you choice. I support you because you have every right to fly it. Look up tinker vs. Des Moines, it might have some relevance to your situation
-
I wouldn't sue because of the new rule, I would if I could though
-
I r8 b8 a 2/8.

2 RepliesI'm black. I'm from the south. I'm active duty military. Wtf happened to freedom of expression? Can i sue for being offended that everyone else is offended?

1 ReplyYou should vehemently resist the school and threaten to sue. I know for a fact that if it were a Che Guevara shirt or Hammer & Sickle, nobody would care. But since the Confederate flag is viewed as right-winged bigotry, it's denied. Stand up for your rights otherwise you'll enable the hypocrisy of liberalism to outlaw right-winged bigotry while endorsing left-winged bigotry.

2 RepliesIt was the flag used during the civil war for the south side, literally just made to symbolize the South part of America not wanting to give up slavery and not seeing anyone of color as humans. That's why it's considered racist.
-
3 RepliesRIOT!!!
-
Yes you can sue, but that doesn't mean you should
-
1 ReplyIt's the law now, obey the law, they disallowed the confederate flag

Yeas. Sue. People are ignorant. Ive been told it most definitely NOT racist. It just so happens to be associated by some racist people, but the flag does not symbolize racism. Sue. And/or give them a history lesson. And in my opinion, if you live in the north, or any city, don't fly it. If you don't want to get in trouble. But if you want, go for it.

While I don't agree that the confederate flag doesn't represent slavery and secession, I respect your right to fly it on your truck, or wherever you please. However, the unfortunate truth is that when you're on school grounds you have to give up some liberties. The flag is a controversial topic right now, its always possible they had you take it down to avoid any emotional reactions from other students. But that's just one idea. Look, just fly it on your time. School isn't a private setting, or else I'd say fly it all day.
