I got suspended for having a confederate flag on my truck.....
I still don't understand why people think the flag is racist, it represents southern heritage. The school might as well become a dictatorship. Should I sue?

142 Repliesthis is interesting...in my high school it was perfectly acceptable and both whites and african-americans originally from the south saw it as a part of their culture and wore the flag on shirts as well as had bumper stickers. i graduated in 1998 but it was never brought up as a racist thing back then, and no one used it as such. it is funny because many people here are right in that symbols are how you view them. well, long ago it was viewed as racist. then it went through a metamorphosis in country music and southern rock as well as throughout southern culture itself to mean pride in hard work and souther culture, food, music etc... now, ironically there is this desire to turn it back into a racist symbol by the people that supposedly abhor racism.

The south is lucky I was not president back then. All the leaders would have been hanged. Your flag and statues would be ground into dust. You'd still be paying war reparations. You would not be states but military provinces. This has nothing to do with black or white. The south tore our nation apart and caused the most retarded war in history.

The way people see symbols change. Can I fly a [url=http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin%27s_law]-godwinslaw!-[/url] symbol because it means peace? Can I call people gay because they're happy? Today, nobody uses or says things like these because their definition changed.

Because people today are too sensitive. One wrong move and you're racist, or hell, even having -blam!-in social anxiety and because you're too damn nervous to socialize with people of different cultures that makes you a racist too.

Because racist people use it as a symbol to gather under. It's like flying the Swastika, to some it might stand for "good fortune" or "well being" but because of how it has been used historically it is viewed by most as offensive to fly.
