DESTINY. The current problem and main reason of all the negativity!

I see a lot of negativity posts here. People claiming they are bored after 4 hours. Other People burning through the game in 17 hours, claiming they beat and finished the game. Etc. I think the main problem with Destiny currently is. Is that Bungie is behind the Halo games. The Halo games, just like the Call of Duty and Battlefield games, just have a single story campain (you usually finish in 10-16 hours average) and then you are just left shooting eachother in the face on PVP maps. And that is the problem right there. People are treating Destiny as yet another Halo, CoD, BF game. Rushing through the Story Campain missions, get bored and even claim they beat the game. They are completely unaware that they basically only touched like 20% or what the entire game has to offer. Most these People don´t even know you can pick up Bounties at The Tower (starting from lvl4) and then enter the maps in Exploration mode. Exploration mode is the core experience of this game! Here is were most of the stuff happens and how you obtain the best loot / rewards when leveling! It´s also the main way to gain Vanguard reputation! Vanguard Reputation you need to get the best gear at lvl20 (along with Vanguard marks from strikes), unlock emblems for your class, etc. - Bounties - Scout missions - Public Events - Harvesting materials for Upgrades - Exploring - Hunting All stuff you can do in Exploration mode. It´s basically open world, where you run into other People, help eachother With difficult encounters, like bos mobs and Public events. Etc. EDIT: As was pointed out. There are also parts of each map, like Kings watch ( http://destiny.neoseeker.com/wiki/King's_Watch ), that won't open up to you until you reach Level 20. So even at Level 20, you are encouraged to get back to each map and explore new areas. Then I haven´t even touched the Strikes and the Glass Vault RAID (that isn´t even open yet until Next week) to get the best endgame gear and push yourself from lvl20 to lvl30. Then I also haven´t touched the sub classes yet, opening up at Level 15. I think it´s a real shame! And a lot of the Day One reviews out there are reflecting exactly this! I don´t know what it is, if it´s Bungie´s fault? Having been too secretive, giving out too little information and details about what all there is to do in the game. Their main website isn´t really helping either, with just sparse descriptions. /sigh EDIT: Someone brought it up and Complete forgot to mention it. People also have the freedom to ignore most of the PVE part of the game and just play Crucible PVP, Level up through PVP and buy gear on Crucible PVP vendors. Just another strength of this game and the freedom it gives to People in what they want to do.

    • Hey man, Maybe this will help you realize why people are upset. I can appreciate that many of the things that I don't like about this game, you like. That is fine, however you have to understand why other people don't like these things. The game is fun. That's it. It is fun. Like jumping off a diving board into a swimming pool, or dancing to music, it is fun. Dead Rising was fun. It was marketed as fun. And it delivered what it set out to do. (The storyline was AAA compared to Destiny too) It is not great. You can list out all of the "features," and "things you can do," but it's not opinion, its fact. It is not new, groundbreaking, or even on par with anything Bungie has done before. It is possible to have fun with this game, if you have friends, or if you haven't really played games before, but this is the experience for individuals not playing in a Party with friends. Here are the facts that prove this: The gameplay is repetitive, there is nothing NEW here. Literally Halo with a new skin, same weapons with new names, even the Needler from Halo is in the game, shooting little blue balls of energy instead of pink spikes, but following IDENTICAL "bullet" physics. This is not surprising, as Bungie has only ever had success with the Halo formula, however, instead of adding anything new, all abilities, shield, weapons, have all been done in Halo. Each mission is repetitive. Go here, deploy ghost, wait, defend, whatever. This was fresh in 2001, when I would deploy Cortana and defend her while she did her thing. To make EVERY single level feature these types of objectives, is mind-blowing. I am absolutely blown away by the lack of creativity. Again, I think they slacked on it in exchange for the Social Online aspect of the game, which is strange because the Social Online aspect of the game stinks, as I'll mention throughout (no coms, random players in levels, not a sound in the Tower which is supposed to be a social hub - can't even type anything). There is no storyline. Compared to ANY other game I have played, this storyline is pathetic. There are no major characters, events, plot lines, places, or consequences. You may say this is like any other MMO, and that would be okay, if Destiny provided the positives of an MMO. Which it does not. I don't know what they think is MASSIVE about their MULTIPLAYER, 12 online players isn't massive, neither is 30. Especially when you barely even see other players (and can't communicate with them anyways). AI. Even Titanfall AI was better than this. They literally spawn 20 seconds after you kill any group, in the exact same place, every time, just sitting there, doing nothing. Pylons are more creative enemies than what Bungie has created in Destiny. If I am close to dying, I run 10 metres away from them and just sit there while my Guardian/Spartan Shield recharges. Any upgrading to be done to my character is exactly matched by AI levels. This makes upgrading obsolete and necessary at the same time. It makes NO difference to your gameplay unless you don't upgrade, at which point you'll be underpowered. Upgrading just keeps the game the exact same as it was the level before. Loading Screens Galore. Any sense of adventure is dulled out by the tenuous loading screens everywhere. Again, if they were loading MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER matches, or worlds where you run in to dozens of other players, it would make sense. But again, these positives do not accompany the negative of the Loading Screens. Multiplayer? I load a story map, and when I magically appear on the same ground I have already been to (exciting), there are three other people randomly jumping and running around the "map." I follow my generic objectives very quickly and easily run through enemy groups that a) respawn exactly how they were when I inevitably have to retrace my steps to complete another meaningless objective, b) respawn in time for the players who are two steps ahead of me (they were already in this mission when I loaded it), so that my timing with them is completely sporadic and unrealistic. First thoughts, great I can join up with these players. Reality, they are 3 minutes ahead of me in their mission, they all disappear off the map before I can even catch up to them. Even when I do catch players, there is no COMMUNICATION in this "social" game. Again, negatives of the ONLINE-only game, no positives to be seen anywhere. Okay so when I finally finish the mission, which was never single player or multiplayer, just a static linear route through a map that players can watch each other run through, I head to the Tower. First thoughts, great I can talk to these other Guardians and set up missions with them easily. Silence. . . What? What is going on here, players running around and jumping around doing things that could easily be taken care of in a menu system. Okay, so I have to run to different shops to buy gear, half of which is just Aesthetic, the other half necessary in order to stay ON PAR with enemies, as opposed to just navigating a menu. This would be GREAT if there were any positives attached, like SOCIAL aspects or communication. But there aren't, there is literally no reason for the Tower. It feels like something out of a PC game from the late 90's. If you are still reading, thank you. I appreciate that you enjoy this game, I am just trying to convey my opinion of it. Sometimes we like things and we don't know why, we just like them! That's fine, that's human! Unfortunately, it is also human to get defensive when somebody else does not share your opinion. The things I have said are a reflection of my experiences with Destiny. Whether or not they have as much weight on your enjoyment of the game or not, is up to you. However, just because most of these things don't bother you, it does not mean that this is a good game, nor does it mean that Bungie made something good here, or even close to being worthy of their history and the hype/marketing that they themselves spent money on. A lot of what you wrote had to do with people not realizing they had not played the whole game. This is opinion. To me, Exploration is a waste of time, because Loot and Rank mean nothing and don't change the game in any manner. You may appreciate your rank and the Loot you receive, and that may increase your pleasure of the experience, but the actual physical game does not change in any manner as a result of upgrading these things. Second, I do not like walking around the same level many times, no matter what new "activities" or "challenges" are available. To me, these do not change the physical surroundings of the map, the reaction of the AI, the physics of the FPS aspects, the narrative, nothing. Third, this monotonous retracing in Exploration is necessary after ALREADY going through the same levels more than once. The first time around, those levels aren't exciting at all. The third time around they are so boring it isn't funny. Again, if you disagree, it is because you appreciate the Loot and Rank over the Map and Gameplay. I can play Sonic The Hedgehog still, same levels hundreds of times, but I would NEVER try and convince somebody that doing so was to experience something new every time. It is repetitive, that is a fact. The reality is, this is a really fun game for a lot of people. This is a really boring game for a lot of people. This is an upset for a lot of people. This is nothing close to what some people were expecting. Most people wanted something new and exciting, which is what Bungie marketed Destiny as. Destiny is not new and exciting, it is actually rather dull in the grand scheme of things. This is why you are seeing so many people say that this game sucks, or is boring, or didn't live up to the hype. It is not a great game. It is debatably a good game. It is a fun game for a lot of people. Personally, I enjoy reading people's complaints, because they are very transparent. I don't enjoy reading comments like yours, because they are always opinionated and biased, as you clearly enjoy aspects of RPG (as your pleasure with loot, rank, gear, etc tells me). That being said, I wish you could just play the game and enjoy it, rather than try and convince others, who have tried the game, and do not enjoy it, that what you are doing is the right thing, and that your opinion has any affect on the quality of the game. I have never read a comment like yours and changed my opinion about the quality of a game, because no post on a website will have more influence than playing the actual game right in front of me. I am sure that if they address the Communication issue that many players will come back to the game. A lot of the above complaints wouldn't hold as much weight if the whole thing were a social experience. Well, that is my one post for this game, I hope that clears it up for you, and you spend your time becoming Legend rather than trying to recruit other Guardians haha! Have fun out there, and I am sure I will see you on the Frontier one of these days.

      • If you have finished all the story missions, got to level 20, and you think you have completed the game, you are mistaken. You have merely completed a very well disguised tutorial! Being an old-school gamer from back in the Atari/NES days, I despise how modern games treat you like an idiot with all the hand-holding and tutorial missions and such. The fact that Bungie had the insight and cleverness to disguise Destiny's tutorial as a story line and leveling process reflects well on their genius and mastery of game crafting. Playing through nothing more than the tutorial and basing your opinions on that alone will turn you off to any game, even a game as deep, beautiful, and amazing as Destiny. Now if they could just fix the voice chat and make it easier to socialize, they will have crafted the PERFECT modern shooter. 9.9/10 (until they fix the voice chat, then it will be 10/10)

          • Bored? People are still playing halo! This game is great, nothing that hasn't been seen before except the storyline. I'm hoping Bungie finds a way to make a part 2 by Christmas! I haven't had more fun playing a game since metal gear solid, or final fantasy 7, the original. I feel like this is a game with quality to play it over and over again you know? Now, while rushing is not the goal, getting stuck isn't fun either. If anyone is stuck, use the link above to step your game up. It's sure helped me. I just don't agree that this game is "just another" anything. I feel like when I beat a game I've been playing a lot, There's a void in my life that needs to be filled with another game. I'm pretty sure the site above helps you get involved in getting PAID to TEST GAMES as well. I sure wish I could've participated in BETA. I don't think testing games is for me though, my job is white collar. I don't mean to ramble, long story short, this game gets 4 1/2 stars from me, only because I did feel like it's pretty short.

            • I am an older player, (50 plus) fairly new to gaming and this type of game but am having a great time learning the ropes. I really enjoy playing, learning how to unlock new areas and modify my character to make it more efficient. I am a lousy shot online, but give me a real shotgun or pistol and I will teach you a thing or two. I don't have the manual dexterity you have developed but I am getting better. I can understand why young experienced gamers may be finding negative things but that is probably due to their vast gaming experience. But to complain that they finished the story line in 17 hours???? Let them try playing 17 hours of golf for under $100.00. How about going to 17 hours at the movies? And they can still play even after the initial story line. And if you finished in the first 2 days of the release let me make a suggestion. Go to school, study, get a job. If you have that much time to spend gaming I wonder who did the work to earn the cash that paid for the game you are complaining about? And you wonder why some of my generation looks on some of yours with contempt for your "what have you done for me today" mentality. But you probably don't care and that is part of the problem. You may want to try doing some exploring in the real world, go outside and look up, that orange thing is called the Sun and it is good for you to get some of its healing power on your pasty white skin. I really enjoy gaming and spending time with my online friends but I have even more fun going hiking, fishing, hunting, or riding horses with my kids. These are my hobbies find a few of your own. And if it really annoys you playing with a noob like me or if my post offends you, then I suggest you spend some time learning a few concepts like courtesy, compassion, sharing, teaching, mentoring, and most of all tolerance. These concepts which you can look up on your computer or phone will really help you to survive and excel in the world both online and off. Dale Carnage put it well when he said "You can get more of what you want in this world by helping others get what they want".

                  • Just as others have commented in this thread. The connection errors are crap. I have downloaded over 20 gig of data today from Xbox and for the last two days CANNOT get the damned content for Destiny. It is not my connection. It is not my Xbox. It is Bungie. I paid good money for the limited edition by pre-order and have yet to get inside the game except to watch the exceptional walkthrough videos produced by GhostRobo on YouTube. Sorry to say, my experience with Destiny sucks and if it were possible I would return the whole package for a full refund today. One note to those responsible for writing the code for the content downloads. Perhaps you could write in some code that would allow the download to continue from where it left off, instead of rewriting the whole thing. The closest I have come to a download is 3.6gig, but average a disconnect at 1 gig. SUCKS.

                  • I didn't read all the comments and I don't plan to. There are going to be haters with every game that comes out. This game had a lot of hype and therefore there will be more haters. The way I look at it, people had a chance to preview this game when they did the beta release. I loved it then and I love it now. Not every game is going to make everyone happy. If you don't like, take yer negative butt some where else and play another game....that simple.

                  • There's something very wrong with Destiny. At first sight (my opinion) Destiny is a shooter with MMO pretensions and fragile RPG aspects, graphically spectacular of course... point. So far .. that's it. It's impossible to deny that in the general opinion... we only got 25% of Destiny, and the hype was much bigger than ... than .. well, certainly bigger than the game. Some people already beated the game, including the DLCs (wich im my opinion... adds a almost imperceptible content to the game)... and those people said that the whole "is an experience that will generate 10 years of entertainment" and "the fun begins from lvl 20 " is bullshit since apparently they condensed 10 years in 2 days, and now the only thing to do is wait and eventually buy DLCs. Furthermore, although covering different aspects of game genres, Destiny is not STRONG in any of them ... the story is not solid and intriguing as in Fallout for example, and the shooting and reward system is not as satisfying as in Borderlands ... and the system of online pairing is sadly weak since it does not offer any kind of chat system, giving the impression we're playing with wandering ghosts that eventually "go through the map." I understand ... and even share the anger of many: it's kinda frustrating to buy a game (an expensive one, especially if you live in Brazil) that costed 500 million dollars to be developed and receive what appears to be only 24% of it. .. besides, more content was released in the same day as DLC, costing more money (although the DLCs just add like that missing 1% to 25). And the gameplay, despite being polished, is not perfect. Destiny has practically no sidequests ... it forces you to revisit the same areas over and over again, making small "mini-tasks" like "kill 50 creatures of that kind ...". BUT ... hope (again, in my opinion) still resides in the promise: if Bungie keep it's word and release more content weekly, implement a more practical way for players to communicate in-game and promote events like those in true MMOs, opening the several "mysterious doors" that exists in the game ... DESTINY will be undoubtedly the game they promised it would be.

My main issue is with the PvP. It's just special power spam and domination by whoever gets whatever power vehicle first. As for the exploring and the "story". It feels empty.

Completely agree with your statements. I've been playing the game since the midnight launch I have just over 20 hours and I have not beaten the story mode yet I'm enjoying ever sec and every single thing the game has to offer. First thing I do is play all the story missions of the planet, then proceed to just explore until I feel I've made it through just about every place I can go for the level I'm at, then on a end note I play a strike with my friends then proceed to the next area. I still need to explore Venus, do the Strike then I haven't even touched mars or Raids, and I still play int he Crucible from time to time to just change it up. I'm a lvl 19 Warlock and I still feel like a just scratched the surface for my character but as for story I feel like its going by way too fast. . .so much happens int he middle that isn't said so I feel liek its empty. Do I wish there was more cinematic points to the story (comparing to Halo: Reach which made me feel like more of legend than Destiny has) longer story missions with more meaning than linking to the Sparrow net? Yes I do want more of this, I want them to explain the Hive via cut scenes that involve my Warlock and the story as well as with other enemy types. I know I can go online and read about it, but I'm not fond of reading about a video game when I can experience it instead. There is so much to this game which is great and there are a few things in which are short coming that could have been (not better written) better played. Instead of five mission per world not counting strikes, or the up-link mission for every planet there just isn't much there to give me a reason to actually care about my legend or my Warlock, I'm more concerned with my enemies history and structures than my Guardian which doesn't even know his own race or where they are. I love the game and will continue playing just hope that in the next game each mission will have more twists and turns and epic music. AKA each mission should feel like a Strike, and the story is there ABSOLUTELY just needs more 'light within the darkness'

Love your post. Right from the Beta I have always known that the lore would be light in this first game. I think Bungie is saving for the sequel. Apart from the stuff the op has said I would like to add some feedback + First of all, I love this game and not one bit disappointed. I am level 23 and have not even finished playing the campaign, which I am playing on easy and plan to play on hard eventually. This is not like CoD or other traditional FPS, so if you plan on being an OG like you may be in those other FPS you would likely be upset. - Personally I never liked reading codex even Mass Effect, so I would rather Bungie get rid of the grimore cards. - Would have been nice of the story to be aware of the race I have chosen. For example the queen who is an awoken should have at least acknowledged my awoken character, maybe said " oh you are an awoken and you should get a free pass" etc. - Level 30 cap is a bit low. But then it makes sense in a way as it forces me to create a new character. PS: Looking for a fire team is not that difficult, just jump on the forums or drag all you friends into a conversation or even join a clan, it has worked for me

                        • Let's not forget that most users will never hit 20 hours of gameplay and may never max out their characters. Only the hardcore players are doing that and doing it quickly. I think we are going to hit a point where hardcore players dominate PvP even with the level advantages turned off, and thats going to be a turn off to casuals and hardcore players who don't actually find the looting to be fun. It's basically Halo gameplay with Diablo's loot and progression. For someone that never liked the gameplay of Diablo, this is awesome.

                        • Dude I couldn't agree with you more...you took the words out of my mouth..Let me tell you something I'm 27 been gaming since most of these kids were skimming around in there fathers scrotums still and this game is UNBELIEVABLE maybe the funniest I've ever played in my life with first person shooters, you picked a awesone first game to start with, don't listen to these nerds they will find sonething to complain about in heavan..So the story mode takes 24 hours? THATS YOUR COMPLAINT!! Dude someone playing 2 hours a day would take almost a month!! A month!! That's ALOT of gaming, and I say 24 hour instead of 17 thinking you finished it further then the average person and went strait through without the crucible or anything. after you beat it there's endless side missions to go back and do and endless new content coming out for download. Not to mention the crucible which is my favorite mode in the game, your competing with your guy you personally create and customize against other players and YOUR PUTTING YOUR PERSONAL SKILLS to the test against other players with teammates on gorgeous landscapes and genius my designed maps, I personally like to know how good I can get in very competitive and want to become the best so I'm constantly trying to get better so therefor this keeps me playing the game essentially forever..if you don't enjoy crucible you probably just suck and get your ass kicked and are a quitter and say the game sucks instead of keep playing until you get better...., You haters have got to be kidding me because this game is off the charts if you had realistic expectations and DiDNT expect to get a B.J with your purchase...I could go on and on, they will be adding content to this game for 5-10 years in a series...anyways I'm done and 17 hour man get a job ya loser..

                        • Uh well I beat the story, on hard. I couldnt play online so nothing for me to do there. I did some level 20 stuff. And all that was left for me is to run around doing those planet missions leveling up gear.... not extremely boring, but it gets old after a couple of them. (Plus the enemies dont scale, so once you get high gear its too easy, and it was easy before). What else is there for me to do? I looked everywhere for some more missions that were new and found none. When I played Swtor, the game took me 2.5weeks to beat on a single character, and there were 8 characters with 2 classes each. Then I had a couple months after that doing Raids, and Hard Mode raids. People say its all about the endgame for Destiny, I haven't seen any yet. It should have been with the game on release, not released through DLC or patches, that's just sloppy and greedy.
