I pretty much played the beta extensively and there was no NPC that was gay and I'm just wondering why; because in Skyrim and Warcraft in a lot of other MMO's, multiplayer games like mass effect, they include the gay community in there. again I'm not saying it has to be something in your face but I really think that destiny should include gay characters in their story line that is unless they're homophobic? What say you?

1 ReplyWe don't need homosexual NPC's when we have Guardians like you, Sir!
-
well you were there. but you never know we did not see all the NPCs in the tower. one might be to you liking
-
Omg why is it just bc there isn't an exclusively gay character in a game/tv show/movie/book etc, the creater is assumed homophobic? (Which I don't think that word means what everyone keeps using it as)
-
To answer your idiotic title question.... No, no they are not. Now head back under your bridge until you come with some other stupidity to post.

1 ReplyWhy should you care about every character's sexual taste? What do you want a logo to identify their sexual preference? Why bring that up? The game has ZERO sexual content so you are wasting your time bringing that up. Makes no sense.
-
Just from playing the Alpha and Beta builds of the game, I didn't notice any npc's express any sexuality or come across any story aspects indicating romantic or intimate relationships of any kind. Not every form of media or entry in any form of media needs to include or deal with expressions of sexuality of any kind. I don't think any conclusions can or should be made about people's personal opinions or beliefs based solely on the art or product they produce. Personally, my guess is, if you're going to be a Guardian you're not going to have time to engage in such frivolities. When one is fighting the darkness and humanities enemies, one does not have time to engage in tonsil hockey or hand holding. One only has time to pull one's trigger.

How do you know whether an NPC is gay or not? Exactly. If it is none of your damn business in real life, then same applies to a video game. Let's say they're not gay at all, how do you know? Are you judging by appearance? I thought gays didn't like people judging them, so why do judge everyone else and the products they sell? That's what I thought.

So unless Bungie start throwing Pride parades they are homophobic? The best way to portrait any LGBT character is not reference it, it should have zero impact. Do you also expect every character to announce their cultural background too? "We must defeat the darkness, btw I am of Hispanic decent on my mother's side who incidentally also had a homosexual experience in college" Your post reminds me of a Homer Simpson quote: "I like my beer cold, my TV loud and my homosexuals flaming"

5 RepliesEdited by keyser soze: 8/23/2014 2:44:09 AMThis argument again? Do you go walking around shouting your sexual preference to the world? Or are you saying that you would prefer the characters be flamboyantly gay? For another why does it matter? Would it fundamentally change your gaming experience? Dumbledore was gay in the Harry potter series but this was not brought to light until after its publication. Did this change the character or his motivations? This is nothing more than an anecdote. If the goal is to be fully integrated and accepted than why draw attention to this fact. Personally i don't care what you identify as it's none of my business and doesn't affect anything. But if it makes you feel better, since no characters appear to identify their sexual preference they are all now gay. I call this theory schroedinger's sexual identification.

Noble Destiny will teach us to be brave, not to be a gay and not to like gays.

let me ask you this. how do you know there are no gay NPC's? since sexaulity NEVER pops up in the game in any way shape or form? oh, i get it, you one of those -blam!-ing morons who think gays to be gay have to prance around in thongs, and shout their sexuality at the top of their lungs to the masses...cause i got news, those aren't homosexuals, they are attention seeking -blam!-. you see in reality, a real gay person acts just like a heterosexual person in public, albeit, instead of ogling the ladies, they ogle the men. you see heterosexual men and women don't shout their sexuality at the top of their lungs, nor do real homosexuals, only attention seeking little shits do it. but i digress, this thread is obviously troll bait. op you are a dumbass, and a moron, i award you no points, and may god have mercy on your soul. p.s. i'm not a homophobe people, i judge people based on how they act, if your gay, good for you, don't try shoving your sexuality down my throat and we'll get along just fine, (as a heterosexual, i won't try shoving my sexuality down your throat either)

How exactly do you differentiate between a gay character and a straight character? Honestly, stop trying to cause trouble.
-
1 ReplyIt's no ones business which NPC is gay and it's not their job to inform us.
-
1 ReplySeriously? This is just lol. You will probably be able to have as you Destiny "motto" or something that hovers above your head that says some short phrase like if you want. I AM GAY. Like it's not that big of a deal. Anyways the game doesn't even let you be a "straight" guardian. Like maybe everyone in Destiny is gay! It's a video game. Not a flipping social network. Keep calm and kill aliens.

I dont know, are you heterophobic? I mean if you dont like it bungie wont miss you theres about 5 mil others who dont really give 2 shits.
-
Irrelevant sense no NPCs in the game had any romantic relationships.
-
In a game like Destiny, does that honestly matter? And who knows, maybe some characters are gay and they just don't mention it. Did they ever say that a character was straight? No. This is Destiny, they don't need to add a gay character because it is not a game where romance is involved, in Mass Effect you could have romances, so of course they would add the gay community. In Skyrim you can marry people, so of course they are gonna add the option to be gay. In Destiny there isn't a romance aspect so there is no need for it in the game.

1 ReplyHow do you know if those NPCs are gay? You want bungie to make stereotypes with men acting feminine saying "fabulous" with a poodle in one arm and handbag in the other? Then bungie will be accused of stereotyping gays and get branded homophobic. I hate this type of thing. Gay people don't walk around with gay signs so don't start demanding its thrusted every where just so it pleases you.

50 RepliesEdited by Dormanayevsky: 8/15/2014 9:24:52 PMAs a gay man, I resent the idea that anyone who doesn't include "gay" characters is homophobic. The point here is, people are allowed to be different, and no one has to agree with you. Rushing to conclusions is not the right way to go about asking for inclusion. Ive seen more acceptance in the gaming community towards homosexuality than say, the sports and business communities. I think it's fantastic that I can have a husband on Skyrim, but it doesn't bother me that I can't do that on Destiny or that Bungie doesn't explicitly support the LGBT community. It'd be one thing if they came out against it, but why should they need to be explicit about it. My sexuality doesn't define so much of my life that I feel the need to make sure everyone knows or that I will only support those companies that are explicit in their support. Granted, if they were explicitly against, sure that's going to be a problem. You can't go about assuming things about people in Bungie, Bungie itself, or about anyone else in general. Respect them and they'll respect you. Also, corporations (like Bungie) do not exist to further social progress. They exist to support the bottom line for their shareholders. ;) *edited for correct spelling. Cheers gents!

There probably are gay people in the game. We just don't know it because they're people, just like you and me.

It doesn't matter what you were, only what you will become.

How do you know we're not all gay? #trolldoll
