Crucible loot drops make no sense.

I want to start off I really enjoy the PvP Crucible mode. Destiny really lends itself to a fun new-er way to enjoy competitive multi-player. My only problem is the loot distribution makes no sense. I have seen various missions, winning or losing, where kills, assists or kill/death ratio seem not to have any impact on item drops or quality. I understand some randomness but when the guy who did the worst or even so-so is the only one to get loot or the best loot it is slightly upsetting. Especially when you get top ranking in your team and get nothing. Then end up sucking the next game and get one of the blue crystal things that is rare loot. Anyone else experience this or the opposite?

  • Biggest problem is... if only the best players get good loot, what's the incentive for average or below players to even go in? You'd kill off the population in PvP pretty quick when they could spend that time getting all their gear being average in PvE.

    • Definitely agree. In my opinion, at the end of the match, the loot drops should go to the best players. Reward those that did well in score (caps, kills, etc) and give people incentive to reach that goal. Then institute a new idea for multiplayer: player loot. Every time I kill another player there should be a chance that a copy of something they have equipped drops mid-game and vice versa. Gives some risk/reward to grab that loot and risk being killed AND reward players for kills. So if a low level kills a high level they have a chance of winning a copy of their high level weapon. Mind you it's just a copy. So no one would actually lose loot, just earn.

      • crucible marks (like many others have said) and the rate of rare drops in pvp was ridiculously higher than that of pve. Combine that with the better level for gain in pvp and i don't find the randomness of the drops to be a problem. Besides, gear still has an effect in the crucible and if the average to subpar players never got good gear, pvp would become horribly one sided

      • While I agree with you, a lot of people seem to forget about crucible marks, that can be used to purchase better gear. Just my .02

      • Also the loot was never good enough for my character. Never once did I wear a piece of armor or weapon I got from the crucible. Always vendor trash and downgrades

      • I like that the loot dropped is random. 1. The good players that are complaining, are good because they play pvp a lot. So, of you are doing well and keep playing you will eventually get the gear you want. Essentially making the pvp drops a way to grind for gear. Something no one seems to complain about in other game modes. 2. Weaker pvp players should not be discouraged from playing, and rewarding the strong, making it even harder for a lower player can be quite discouraging. 3. As long as the selection of who gets gear is random, and as long as the gear given is player level relevant (no matter the rarity), then the "pvp grind" will be successful. Play enough and you shall be rewarded with something that could be useful to your character. In closing, if you think of it as a way to grind instead of as a reward for your actions, it stops being a big deal. If it's still a big deal to people, consider removing the items gained from being public? That way only the player getting to loot can see what they got. Can't be jelly if you don't know what other players have, can ya?

        • The system should still be in place I think, just not available to the people coming in dead last or 5th in your team. Seems stupid that someone who works their ass off for the win, can lose out on loot given to the moron in last place.

I agree with you, but Bungie would have to be careful about how loot works in PvP in order to keep EVERYONE happy. We've seen on this forum that there are plenty of people who just are not that good at PvP. They admit it, and I respect them for being honest and trying (I ESPECIALLY respect those that don't write up OP/Nerf topics on here, and instead go with the flow). As such, I think they deserve consolation rewards for the attempt, and perhaps sweeten the pot if they are at least on a winning team. Yes, everyone should get something, but only the best (top 3 or 4, maybe 5 to accomodate for the defeated team) should have the chance of getting the good stuff. You don't have to make it a guarantee, just place those 3-5 in the running.

            • The loot is random to whoever the person is that's what makes it unique. Play the game when it comes out level your guy all the way up get the best stuff and you don't have to complain

            • Here's how I feel, I think a random item drop in the crucible is fine but I think it would be better if it rewarded players more on contribution. Like the higher the contribution the higher the chance of getting loot and the better the contribution like MVP the higher the chance of get uncommon and rare loot drops

            • Not really loot drop per se. Think of it like random playing incentive. That said items should at least be of green quality.

            • Check the top score on both teams. Most likely they are using a shingen c. Does that mean we should just reward the FOTM? Or should we drop it randomly as to keep it fair. You don't have to play PvP.

              • I agree and even if my team lost I'd be on top leaderboards on both sides and get nothing or some crappy hand cannon etc. just like in Iron Banner it said YOUR skill then only rewarded by match wins so someone that sucks and nearly made you lose gets a rare loot drop it should be the other way around since I had to constantly piggy back the damn team

                • Yes i have experienced that many times. But think about it. If the top players constantly recieved the loot drops, it would increase the skill gap between the good and bad players, and soon the players recieving the loot could become undefeatable. Here is my idea. Reward loot drops for completing challenges, achievements, bounties etc.

                  • The only reason i can think of for this is to get people into the crucible who dont like PVP. Ill be honest, im not a fan of PVP in a futuristic game. I loved COD and MW2 and Battlefield 3. So more modern shooters. I always HATED Halo pvp. So my guess is they are just dangling a shiny purple Legendary carrot for people to come in and try PVP. It actually worked on me because the first game i played in the Iron Banner i got the hand cannon and i ended up playing a lot more games than i would have normally. But when it comes down to it, i feel the top players should be rewarded, not jut random people.

I agree its the reason i went from trying extra hard in the iron banner to taking it easy because it has no effect on loot drop. If im top in the game with most captures, kills and kd carrying my team 5 games in a row i expect loot not the bad person on the bottom of my team

                  • I personally think that is a great thing they reward randomly just because you or someone else is an avid PVPer why should you feel entitled to all the cool loot????? Ok so what if a noob gets cool loot maybe they just started the pvp thing like myself and find themselves at the bottom more often than not. Just because they can’t make 40 kills in a game doesn’t make them useless, remember they are still a player on A TEAM. Self-entitlement is so grand, some people think they should get all the stuff while others get nothing. Funny how so many complain about people who do .50 K/D and get loot while they get no loot at all, randomization is cool for those of us who are still learning. Not to mention those same people who win all the time are the exact same ones who complain about getting the same stuff over and over again lol. Rewards are for a job well done and being on a team I think it should be a random gift, I think it’s exciting to see who got what. It’s like a mini lottery where you actually know a winner and they were on your team ha ha ha

I saw getting loot should stay random but to compensate that I think the people that did awesome should get more crucible or iron banner points.
