As we're chugging along in the 21st century, it has become apparent that our collective patriotism is slowly but surely waning. To me, this is personally saddening to see that people no longer believe in America's greatness, or even our potential to be great once again. It's almost as if it's a sin to have a sense of nationalism, to have any sort of pride in this country's history whether you participated in it or not.
Why do you think Americans have become decreasingly patriotic? Do you consider yourself patriotic and proud to live in this country? You don't have to be proud of the people in this country to be proud of the country itself.

1 ReplyCuz most Hispanics that live in the US are loyal to a different country.
-
because they're too busy worrying about judgment from each other and trying to accept everything they can as normal
-
"Do you consider yourself patriotic and proud to live in this country?" - The OP Nope I do not. Don't have a patriotic bone in my body and I can't leave no matter how much I want to...yet at least.

Some people don't feel the need to boast about something they were arbitrarily born into.
And those people are communists.
Patriotism is an illusion. 2edgy4puttin

You kidding me? Make an America hate thread watch the patriots come after you. They will go for blood. As an American I am proud that my country is the richest, strongest and has the most influence. We take take half the world on and still win

Edited by SnowboundSquid: 10/25/2013 7:41:57 PMbecause patriotism doesn't make a lot of sense. edgy

I really just don't care.

Fine by me, as the true colors of who's running us is now coming out. I -blam!-ing hate seeing both blind patriots and blamers, both lacking evidence.

Edited by Atomic Tea: 10/25/2013 3:08:14 PMWhen our government remembers that they were elected and/or appointed to do a job, I might be slightly more excited to live in the US.

Let me help you guys out

Greatness is not an inherent trait based on geography of birth. Greatness is achieved, not born into. Believing in American supremacy or exceptionalism is really just entitlement, thinking you are or deserve something you've done nothing to earn.
-
Perhaps because people are realizing that America is not inherently worthy of patriotism and that its past actions certainly don't warrant patriotism. Obi Wan Stevobi summed it up well.
-
This thread is twice as amusing when you read OP's name.

Nationalism =/= Patriotism.

12 RepliesI say it is because that Americans are realizing just how crap the country really is, in the age of the internet we can no longer sugar coat everything and instill the idea of "America is the center of the world" anymore. Sure, this country isn't the worst on Earth and isn't as bad as many make it out to be, but it's not as good as it could be, it's potential for greatness is stifled by our basically useless Congress (yes I am beating a dead horse with that) and the sheer unwillingness to accept change, in this country especially. If this nation is going to change for the better, we as a people are going to have to embrace change, and resist fear-mongering tactics. If it goes well, America's potential will finally be unveiled.....if not, then spilling blood may be the only viable option, if peaceful change cannot be reached, then we must spill the blood of those who resist it.

2 RepliesEdited by TrussingDoor: 10/25/2013 12:40:11 PMGoddamn whiny pessimists who can only see the bad. I live in a rural part of the South, and I'm a moderate liberal agnostic. If I can be proud of my country for the progress we have made and continue to make, even with the idiocy and douchebaggery I see daily, then maybe everything's not quite so bad as we like to say.

13 RepliesProud of your countries history? Stealing a land from its natives. Killing off said natives. Having a civil war with the colony. Using a nuclear weapon on civillians during a war, twice. Invading countries on the opposite hemisphere as the guise of a world police. keep feeling proud brah, its a short history of rougly 400 years but a very violent one

What pisses me off is people living in America.. yet preach about how Mexico or Europe is better and they waive their native flag around here loud and proud.. Move the -blam!- back there then. That's even more annoying than America's pride dying out.
-
12 RepliesThat's a very good thing. The united states is one of the only countries with this stupid patriotic shit. You can love your country, but shut up about it.
-
There's honestly not many countries to be proud of being in right now, not that they're all bad, just that no one's really doing anything - that being said, America in particular has being going downhill since the Coup d'état of JFK...
-
Too true OP, its like a fad to be anti-American, and if you are a patriot you're ridiculed for it. I think its because of 9/11. Plenty of nationalism emerged, but a lot of ignorance with it, and now people associate ignorance with nationalism. Then again, the White House recently has been acting out of the best interest of the country. I personally have a love-hate relationship with my country, we do some things right, others not so much. Our history isn't flawless, but who's is? I would consider myself a patriot, I love America and always will.
