Alright, guys, hypothetical time. HaloGAF is given unlimited money and girlfriends to pay for 5 official Halo titles. Who's split up into what groups, and how would the games turn out?
It got me thinking - what would be YOUR ideal Halo game? No developers, no deadlines - just you, your imagination, and unlimited resources all within the hypothetical realm. Let's use this thread to get the juices flowing! Post any ideas or scenarios you'd like to see here. To give you an idea, here's what I went with for a sequel to ODST:
ODST 2: New Phoenix | New Phoenix is a city that was composed at the end of Halo 4. It's seen in the epilogue.
• Assume for a minute that there are still ODSTs around in this timeline. A good starting point would be to build off of the idea that a whole bunch of ODSTs are dropped into New Phoenix in pursuit of the Didact and Prometheans. We follow Buck and his squad once again on a mission to secure the city and find out what the Prometheans are doing.
• All the urban exploration of ODST would remain, and the HUB will be packed with more enemies, easter eggs, caches, and treasure hunting. There would even be mini-modes in the HUB, like time trial goosing or search and destroy. Why not go a step further and include special side missions in the HUB separate from the Campaign and Firefight? The idea would be to give people a plethora of post-game Campaign content to explore in the HUB.
• There'd be a greater emphasis on stealth so that the AI would not auto-detect you after one shot. There'd also be more freedom to roam around the map, allowing you to enter more buildings and jump across rooftops like Halo 2.
• Part of the city would be abandoned again (due to the effects of the composer), but this time the ODSTs will start together and get separated into two different squads. There'd be an anxiety throughout the game that you're losing team members and your chance of surviving the mission. We would need to feel the city's despair through the protagonist. The detective aspect would remain, with clues of our teammates' disappearances and the fate of the city itself appearing throughout. Flashbacks will just be replaced with a swap between Buck's Squad and Rookie's Squad.
• The Campaign would strive to take the average player 10 hours on Normal. Higher difficulties would increase the amount of AI and their responsiveness, as well as decrease the weapons, vehicles, and friendlies you have available to you. The more difficult you make the game, the more you have to conserve your resources and play strategically.
• There would be more wide-scale vehicular combat, like a part early on where traffic is still moving and you're having an intense crossfire in a densely populated urban area. Then later on, you'd roll a tank and blast through abandoned cars and enemies while civilians are running the other way. Think Exodus from Reach except in the streets!
• There'd also be missions consisting of intense shootouts and CQB with your squad against 'composed humans' (basically zombies).
• Firefight would return with more of the Reach customization, except there'd be a greater emphasis on teamwork and survival. Players will need to hold strategic areas of the map and ration their supplies to get high scores and reach new waves. Reaching these waves could unlock new features, modes, and other things for players. It would also include the Promethean zombie mode (direct attempt at capitalizing on it, except with its own twists) as well as vehicle-based firefight.
• One major difference from ODST is that this would feature a multiplayer of its own. Base gameplay would be arena-ish, but the trick is some modes would be like an FPSRTS where you have AI troops on your team (think Generator Defense from Reach). Old gametypes like CTF, Assault, and Territories return, but there would be hybrids of Gen Defense, Invasion, and others with AI included. These would incorporate the map, compass, and VISR into play as well. It'd have to feel like its own multiplayer though, and not too much like traditional Spartan Halo or another FPS. It would include remakes of Turf, Terminal, etc.
• There'd also be a degree of customization on FF and MP maps and a more basic Forge mode for them.
• We'd need a new AI because it wouldn't make much sense to bring the superintendent along...
• Weather effects! Rain, Fog, real time daylight/night in the HUB, etc.

Go go go!

3 RepliesSince developers like online only games these days, maybe they could make a Human vs. Covenant multiplayer game. Have each new player start off as the base/weakest type (grunt for covenant, soldier for Humans) and then gradually unlock better characters (grunt specialist, grunt elite etc.), grenades, guns or other abilities. It would be nice also if there were a mechanic to make the outcome of the last battle affect the next one. For example, set the multiplayer campaign on a planet being invaded by the Covenant. Game 1 automatically occurs on Map 1: the initial landing. If the Covenant win, the next game is on Map 2, with the Covenant expanding their beachhead. If the humans win, you play on Map 3 next, maybe with the humans trying to board one of the Covenant ships before they can retreat... And so on. Players would be able to join or drop out of the campaign at any point, to help ensure there is always a certain minimum number of participants. During each individual play through, you would only see a fraction of the available maps, enhancing replayability. Or you know, maybe not.

If there were much more to the city and stealth was critical, then hell yes. I loved ODST. My favorite thing to do in the campaign was play with the blind, famine, tough luck, and thunderstorm skulls on. It made choices about confrontation extremely important. Grunts were easy, but brutes and jackals would be a challenge because you never knew it you were hitting the right spots, or if you had enough ammo. The only major problems I had with the game as a whole were the Spartan-like health system, the "meh" stealth system, and the fact that I couldn't explore more. Specifically the latter, I would love an ODST game where I could explore an entire city. Offices, grocery stores, apartments, hotels, clubs. Everything abandoned and holding secrets or a place to hide. The original had too many of the same closed off buildings and consisted of basically, several differently shaped areas. But an entire city would be insane.

HALO ODST 2

3 RepliesHow about a game on the forerunner human war or around that time?
-
Imagine a Star Wars battlefront, but as halo. I would love to be in a full scale war. If anyone has read the halo book 'Ghosts Of Onyx', wouldn't you want to be part in the battle of Pegasi Delta? 300 Spartan III's at war with a dozens of aircraft, and thousands of Elites and jackals, trying to blow up a covenant base to buy humanity time. Now combine that with epic music. THAT. Would be a war worth fighting in.

Edited by UberFonzie: 9/5/2015 7:19:43 PMA Halo game that consists of strategic 32 vs 32 real time space battles. Along with tons of AI, 16 marines/odst/Spartans or jackals/brutes/elites protect Savannah sized flagships from enemy invasion while trying to board the other ship. 12 pilots use fighters/small carriers to bombard the enemy ship and other fighters. 4 Commanders control the flagship's defenses synchronously. Along with 6 different 3-hour campaigns following the forces mentioned above. Various other multiplayer gamemodes including air battles, and basic infantry combat, if you're into that. And don't forget Grifball. The game focuses on Halo's space side, taking place almost entirely in space, with segments in decayed/inhospitable Halo arrays or low orbit. Plus lots of unlocking new weapons (including over 50 customizable guns and melee weapons) and skills to rank up all six of your characters. Very detailed armor customization, modding all the attributes of your armor, and the best new feature, COLOR PATTERNS. Oh, and no limits? Then this game runs 2160p at a locked 120 frames per second on console, and speaking of console, this Halo isn't exclusive to Xbox. PC, PS4, and Xbone players are all on the same server, which means cross-console multiplayer. Continuing on "no limits," the game is being developed by Bethesda, Hideo Kojima, Naughty Dog, 2008 Bungie, along with others, and a copy of the game is 20$, with 1$ DLC. And, finally, over 20 customizable fighters, carriers, and other. And no ADS.

Odst 2 sounds cool but I think it should be called something else with different characters with a story like multiple teams were sent out to find chief so you play as one of the teams besides lockes team
-
4 RepliesHalo wars with the ability once units have been built to go into first person mode and control a unit. This could also be implemented as one person controls what's being built and the rest of the team would be the units that were built on the field. Idk this was always my dream game after playing halo wars.

Well, it's not like halo wars 2 will be about forge so yeah, why not?

Edited by Lord Ocram: 8/30/2015 3:02:08 AMNow I think a cool halo would be where in the very beginning you can choose to either be a lone forerunner warrior that just woke up with no memory, an elite field marshal that just lost against a rebel elite faction, or an ODST who just got put in the Spartan 4 program. The forerunner would have to fight off covenant and knights The elite would have to run to a far off forerunner shield world fighting off a rebel boarding party, and knights. The ODST, now a spartan, goes to a shield world to discover the cause of sudden covanent activity, finding the knights and the parshily destroyed ship and the rebels. The forerunner meets the elite after getting through the holding chambers. Deciding they should work together to get off the planet. They decided that they should try to contact the humans on the world to get them off. Once meeting the ODST, they work together to get off the world, accidentally unleashing an monitor 343 Guilty Spark. Spark helps them get off telling them that they need to destroy the world because a flood gravemind is hidden. Fighting through the flood they activate the self destruct and escape.

3 RepliesI think it would be cool if they started the game out and you're an odst, you go through some serious lone survivor shit, when you get back they turn you into a spartan (badass cutscene including picking how your armor looks) and you redeploy for the second half of the game as a spartan.

2 RepliesNot a game, but a gamemode.
Think a huge version of Warzone, except UNSC vs Covenant. 16v16, AI allies/enemies, and TONS of vehicles. Maps would be the size of small cities, and dropships (Pelican, Phantom) would be pilotable. Every vehicle ever available in Halo MP would be there, leading to insane action. As a player, you can command a squad of AI allies like in the campaign. In the start, you choose between ODST (faster, stealthier, less armor) or a Spartan (slower, less stealthy, more armor) if UNSC, or SpecOps Elite (faster, stealthier, less armor) or Elite Zealot (slower, less stealthy, more armor) if Covenant. Can direct AI allies to do things (hide, shoot, cover me) via d-pad. Would reenact battles from lore (Harvest campaign, Fall of Reach, etc. ).
Whadda ya think?

Please no.

3 RepliesRed Dead Redemption but with a Halo Skin. RPG style, levelling up, skill trees, choose from a variety of classes (each with specific skills) Scout, ODST, Spartan etc, fully customisable armour, emblems, vehicles. In game clan, squads, basically an MMO lol
-
3 RepliesI would like to see an open world rpg so you could be a spartan,ODST,marine and elites, grunts and other races and classes You would start out in Infinity and be dropped into somewhere then go back to infinity and so on and go all over the galaxy
-
1 ReplyWell that couldn't happen because Buck's a spartan and half of his squad is gone, oh and Rookie is dead.
-
3 RepliesI would but it, but why was there no sequel to Halo Wars...Its a good game.
-
2 RepliesEdited by Lady Masque: 2/2/2015 3:26:26 AMPretty much everything you said I want. It would be interesting to see rookie in his later ODST career. I also hate playing as a spartan apart from reach. I'm tired of chief and the cortana "Romance" stuff I don't want to see chief all depressed, I'd rather like to see what happened to Sadie in ODST, it never really explained, then there's rookie his story ended quickly. It would be cool if he became a spartan 4 trainer like Jun from reach.

1 ReplyI'd kill myself

1 ReplyA halo game where you play as..........wait for it................ sergeant Johnson!!! Like imagine you play as him from the start of the covenant human war and play all the way through to where he sadly passes away! I think it would possibly be the best game ever... Ign would probably rate it 4/10 for not being like cod but us halo fanboys would rejoice and have tears boiling from our heart (yes I said heart)
-
1 ReplyIt would probably be terrible like the first one. When I got the game I was expecting to be dropped in a pod a lot more than once but it is all just the same mission just with different perspectives 5/10
