You know what Halo 4's problem is?

The game rewards being a coward. There are several other minor issues with the game, but the biggest problem with it's multiplayer is that it doesn't punish you for being stupid, it does the opposite. Giving you automatic sprint in maps that Halo 4 has doesn't teach you on when to stand your ground and when to run away, because every situation is now avoidable. Even in long range fights, players can just flop their hard light shield out and slowly walk into cover. Even large scale maps don't punish players on foot in the vehicle sections of the map because there are plenty of tunnels for players to run into to avoid being massacred by a vehicle. You know there's a problem when you're about to kill a guy in a small room and he just literally runs away without thought. Doesn't try to shoot you first, doesn't throw a nade, just runs from any sort of conflict where he/she doesn't have an over insane advantage. I know I'm bound to get responses like "OP just can't kill" or "That never happens". I'm almost positive that this has happened to all of you just as much as it has me because when I go to rewatch my played games, conflicts that didn't involve me ended exactly like I said. Players being cowards.

  • I thought you were going to say, 'The series had fans before it came out.' Then I read the thread. Then I thought to myself that's what this thread is about anyway.

  • Honestly, I'm sick to death of runners. Oh ya sure those bullets slow me down if I decide I'd like to go somewhere but they sure don't for my enemies! I never try to sprint after them because if I did, their shields would recharge, they'd turn around and kill me because when I come out of sprint my weapon comes up like it was the first time I'd ever handled a gun and was struggling hard to hold it correctly. I run if I have to, but the people that run on contact or as soon as their nade spam didn't work piss me off.

  • First of all, yes this has happened to me. In EVERY competitive shooter I've played. Ever. So you're saying if you're hurt, you should stand your ground and die honorably? Are we in feudal Japan? If you die fighting and lose the game, will people sing songs and write epic poems about your honor, devotion, and grand intention? Nope. The idea is to score as many kills for your team as you can, while preventing the other team from getting as many kills as possible. If you're hurt you GTFO, and I'm POSITIVE you've done so once or twice. Now your assertion that H4 "rewards" getting out of the line of fire, as figurative as it is, is fundamentally flawed. Unless you get awesome bonus kill points for hiding behind a corner when low on health, the game doesn't "reward" you at all. The only "reward" you get is possibly a better K/D ratio and the opportunity to trap your attacker. If the entirety of your strategy is "point. click. ???. Profit." then of course you're going to have trouble with players who are aware enough of the situation to escape your line of fire. Rather than complain about how easy it is to run away ( and it's only marginally easier now than in previous games, given the sandbox options available ), why not step up your game and figure out how to exploit this kind of behavior to your advantage?

    • When was Halo 4 Bungie's doing? It was 343's project to be fair you could post this on 343 site or summin but anyway in reach people used sprint to run away so why is it a problem in halo 4 as for the tunnels in maps with vehicles you know people (probably you included) would complain about always getting killed and having no cover

        • People run away turn around and throw grenades, that's called tactics not being a coward. Knowing when to stand and fight is pretty dam important. Also I remember using a hard light shield to defend myself from 2 AR user's and having my team mates come up behind them to kill them and I survived. Again it's called tactic's and you use them to win, although camping with the Boltshot on Lockout remake is just cheap.

            •
The game rewards being a coward.
The biggest overarching problem is the community. H4 is a flawed game. Reach was a flawed Halo game. H3 was a flawed Halo game. H2 was a flawed Halo game. Even CE was a flawed Halo game. Every Halo game to date has been a flawed game in some form or capacity. Hell, H5 will be a flawed Halo game. But the fact that the community failed to realize this simple truth, expecting perfection and of course having it dashed and equating H4 to being a dead game, while being 4th on the activity charts, or to being the worst game ever made, while completely ignoring what constitutes a game being horrible, is ridiculous. That's the biggest problem with not only H4 but the franchise as a whole. And before you start: Yes H4 does have objective, fixable problems.

              • This sounds like when Saddam was taunting the US to stop using jets to blows up his bridges. The pentagon responded by using all kinds of UFO cowardice to completely destroy his air force and anti air defenses lickety split with no losses on the first sortie. Nobody likes it when players actually use tactics and tools to survive and kill with ease. It's human nature. Your only hope to survive is to resort to psychological warfare where you try to reduce the other combatives to meet you on your level by reducing their weapons of usage of said warfare abilities. Thus halo 3.5 shall be made lol. Really don't care I'll be playing Destiny and you can jump hop and strafe in utter happiness with one rifle from 2007.

              • I felt the opposite way about one of the community's most beloved maps; Blood Gulch is horrifically overrated because of how unbalanced it is for infantry. Valhalla is a far superior take on the design, and dare I say even Exile may be a better map.

                • This isn't really nothing new though. Even in Reach if you started shooting someone off guard, they'd usually run rather than fight. The only time I ever done this, is when my shield is down or when a full team is approaching and I'm alone.

                • I haven't encountered this. You can run, but if you do you better start running as soon as that first shot hits or you'll go down. And as Bandikoot said, 'nades will kill a sheild.

                  • There's a counter to everything, you just have to find out what it is In the event that someone is running away, you get a teammate to cut him off In the event he uses a Hardlight shield, you chuck grenades behind him, or run a circle around him since he can't move as fast when it's up My problems with Halo 4 aren't with the players, it's with actual features of the game
