Recently Comcast has been giving me extremely slow Internet speeds, my download/upload is fine but web pages are really slow loading, gaming is horrible. I'm getting 341 ms ping on WoW. My friends with Comcast are also experiencing frequent disconnects.
I just spoke to a support rep, here's the log. It's pretty lulzy towards the end.
[spoiler]Problem: Internet is slow...again
Ana > Hello Alva, Thank you for contacting Comcast Live Chat Support. My name is Ana. Please give me one moment to review your information.
Alva > My Issue: Internet is slow...again
Ana > Hi! I hope you haven't waited so long to be assisted and hope you are having a great day.
Ana > I know how important that you get to be satisfied with the speed that you are getting on your internet because even myself would like hassle free internet surfing. Please be assured I will do my best to help you with your issue.
Ana > Have you tried to do a speed test? Please click this link: http://speedtest.comcast.net/ and paste the url in our chat once you get the result.
Alva > I'm going to just be blunt and honest here. I've had comcast for a while now and it's not been a very good ride. Internet goes slow every couple of months and even recently we purchased a new modem from comcast because an agent said it was on our end
Alva > We're supposed to be getting close to 20mb/s download and we sometimes get that, but it doesn't stop it from being insanely slow. http://stage.results.speedtest.comcast.net/result/216921662.png
Ana > Thank you for the information. Let me pull up your account and compare the result with your package.
Alva > My friends also have comcast around here, when we are playing on Xbox or something together we all disconnect at the same time so it must be on your end. If this continues we don't have a choice but to go somewhere that the internet is better.
Ana > I understand your point there Alva.
Alva > I have to reset my modem and router every couple of hours just to get usable speeds, my friends have to do the same.
Ana > Upon checking the system, you are subscribed to a package that gives you 25mbps of download, comparing it with the speed result that you got, that is way low than what you are supposed to have which is at least 80% of the package. Let's do further troubleshooting steps.
Alva > I do troubleshooting steps every day, it doesn't help at all. Comcast asks to send a technician out but it's insane to pay someone for a service we're already getting.
Ana > How many computers or devices are connected at the same time?
Alva > About three at the most.
Alva > Even when connected through ethernet speeds are slow, and it still doesn't explain the mass disconnection that my friends and I experience.
Ana > The number of devices running at the same time greatly affects the speed you guys are getting. Let me send signal to refresh your connection.
Ana > This will interrupt our chat for 3-5 minutes. Please don't close this chat because it would automatically resume once signal is back.
Alva > Okay
Alva > Hello
Ana > You're back.
Ana > Please run another speedtest and post the result in our chat.
Alva > http://stage.results.speedtest.comcast.net/result/216935282.png
Ana > Thank you.
Ana > Even that one is low. Are you by the way using wireless connection now?
Alva > The speed does improve some once a refresh is done on your end, I've had this done more times than I can count, but in a few hours it diminishes.
Alva > I am using wireless, but I have pulled 20mb/s on here before.
Ana > Okay.
Ana > If you want, I can send over a technician to further check on this. The visit itself has no charge. He would check first. If there would be possible charges, he would discuss it with you first before doing anything.
Alva > What would the charges be for if it's your modem and cable line?
Ana > There would be no charge if that would be the case.
Alva > If there were any charges what would it be on my end? My computer, router, etc?
Ana > Yes. Anything outside Comcast scope that could have contributed to this, if you want him to fix it for you that's the time that you will have charges.
Ana > Would you want a technician?
Alva > What would you fix if it's on my end? Would comcast be repairing my PC?
Ana > He will probably give you options.
Alva > And even if it's on my end, which I doubt, because my friends are also having the exact same issues, what would be done about it?
Alva > What options?
Ana > Depends on the issue Alva. What he would check on is the external box, the connection and the modem.
Alva > That's on your end though, we rent the modem from you.
Ana > Okay. Why don't we go ahead and send over a technician to determine what could be causing this. As far as checking the status of your service, there are no issues with signal.
Alva > When would it be to make sure someone is home?
Ana > Let me check.
Ana > I know that you have provided your account number in the start of chat. For additional security, can you provide the account number once more?
Alva > One second
Alva > [REDACTED]
Ana > Thank you.
Ana > Is [REDACTED] your best contact number?
Alva > Yes
Alva > If you cannot get someone on that line, it's okay to call [REDACTED]
Ana > Okay.
Ana > Please give me 4-5 minutes to finish this task.
Alva > Are you still there?
Ana > I'm still checking the schedule.
Ana > The earliest schedule is on Sunday 8-12 nn and 1-5 pm. Which one would you prefer?
Alva > 1-5
Ana > Let me reserve that schedule. Please give me a minute or two to finish this task.
Ana > Everything is set. Please take note of this reference number [REDACTED] . Our technician will arrive on Sunday between 1-5 pm. Our technician will call you prior to arrival. Please keep your lines open.
Ana > To do a recap, you chatted in because you are having issues with your internet speed. To ensure that you would be able to maximize your speed, I assigned a technician to further check on this.
Ana > Do you have other questions for me today?
Alva > No, but I just did a speed test and I'm getting 28mb/s. Did you do anything on your end? I still want a technician.
Ana > I sent signal earlier and that's it.
Ana > Do you have other questions for me today?
Alva > Okay, have a nice day. We're looking forward to seeing the technician on Sunday.
Ana > You do the same Alva.

Anyone else?

I just tested mine with Comcast and I'm getting pretty good speeds. I'm getting peak 5 up 35 down.
-
2 RepliesOccasional bandwidth bumps but very rare. It could also just be some problems with Servers or whatever in your area. You should call Comcast and see if that's what the issue is.
-
3 Repliesdemand an explanation and some credit and if they don't give it to you threaten to switch. Works every time I want faster internet from them. They purposefully try to tune down your internet speeds because it saves them money. They just hope you won't notice. Also, they could be doing maintenance or upgrading, which is why you need to get an explanation before you start threatening to switch.

Well I have Optimum therefore I am of no help.

Before I switched I was having ridiculously slow speeds.
