How can a developer with so many years of experience in pvp absolutely fumble so many aspects of pvp down to simple matchmaking. It’s seriously comical.

2 RepliesJust play like crap and you'll be fine. I do good in 1 game then it decides to throw me into lobbies with people who live and breathe destiny pvp lmao.
-
4 RepliesSimple, no population = matchmaking worse overall. Lobby balancing will always be trash because SBMM is always trash. I'm coming back to IB after months of no PvP and I'm screwed. I'm getting destroyed between the sweat and lag from SBMM, meanwhile I'm out of practice and the game expects me to play like I never left.

1 ReplyHere's my "conspiracy theory" on matchmaking. There really is no SBMM or CBMM. The illusion that there is, is created by an algorithm of handicapping and catch-up mechanics. *When you're being handicapped, you perceive that you are playing against people better than you. When your opponents are being handicapped, you perceive that you're playing against people that aren't as good. The handicapping and catch-up mechanics are on either a score-based or time-based system (I'm not exactly sure which), whereby reaching a certain milestone within each match, the handicapping and/or catch-up mechanics are turned off and on. This is what creates those matches where you seem to be dominating the other team, but all of a sudden, at a certain point in the match, they turn around and start dominating you, only for it to turn around once more and allow you to finish it the match destroying the other team. Why would they do this? To create artificially "exciting matches". It gives each match an ebb and flow. So in a match where you lose, you at least get a couple of minutes to feel like you're doing well, and could possibly mount a comeback, while the truth is, it's algorithmically manipulated to make matches seem less punishing when you lose, and more rewarding when you win.

7 RepliesEdited by FENIX: 12/1/2024 12:46:15 PMNot as comical as people crying on this forum for years on end.

1 ReplyI’ve lost 5 games in a row because I constantly get teammates who don’t teamshoot or cap zones

1 ReplyIB matchmaking is absolute dog sh!t

1 ReplyEdited by Aero: 12/1/2024 4:45:50 AMIt is indeed true, I totally agree with it.. It has nothing to do with match winning or losing.. The fact is I am either winning by a large margin or losing by a large margin. At least 70% matches are like that and 30% are enjoyable… We all know PVP population is dwindling however this is not the case for IB as all PVE mains (even the pvp haters) would farm IB for the sidearm so basically 20s queue time for every match.. even with so many players, the matchmaking algorithm fails so many times, so I highly doubt if it’s sbmm or cbmm.. it’s probably something different that Bungie “unintentionally” implemented

1 ReplyThey don't care, they haven't cared about PvP since Destiny 1.

1 Reply[quote]How can a developer with so many years of experience in pvp absolutely fumble so many aspects of pvp down to simple matchmaking. Do what ur team does and run away the moment u take 1 hp of hit points and leave the teammate that was with u behind for the fall then clean up all the work he did. Stop trying to win and just run away. Also when u see a teammate shooting, run away and don't assist at all. If u see an opponent running up behind a teammate with a shot gun, don't shoot them. Chase them and try to punch them 10+ meters away.

It's pretty bad

1 ReplyWorking as intended. If you aren’t in the favored class of players, you will be stomped and like it.

First game this morning a team of cheaters. -blam!- bungie.
-
Bungie has literally always been bad at balancing. It's nothing new.
-
2 RepliesI think the problem is the dwindling player base make is impossible to have fair matches
-
3 RepliesBecause they didn't, all those people left and we get the dregs that can't balance -blam!-.
-
5 RepliesI’m facing people substantially better than I am at this point. If this is SBMM, then they might as well bring back CBMM
-
1 ReplyI juste don’t see the problem.

2 RepliesEdited by Dooodley: 11/30/2024 6:19:17 PMGranted that a ton of aspects of PvP are crap (IMO foremost the spawns and map layouts) but I'm still open to a lot of this being down to user errors. I'm simply not getting all those bad games people keep referring to - and that's as a player who normally NEVER plays PvP (I dont have a single match outside of IB) , is always queueing solo, doesnt know the maps or the metas. Now, I would never play it for fun or more than I have to for the rewards but I reset the last IB with a k/d around 2,5 and a pretty high winning % and halfway through this one I'm around the same numbers. Sure, someone who's truely good at Destiny PvP specifically will be better but it's not the 0,2 k/d steamrolls people usually refer to. Advice, don't be one of the idiots who just circle trade all game. Take a point, stay there and let your idiot team mates get a second one. You'll probably not end up the highest on the scorecard but you will stay in the positives - and foremost not give away kills, while making the other team hesitant on trying to take your control point. It'll also improve the spawns if someone isnt moving all the time.In terms of weapons, use what's easiest - not what the best player in the world is promoting on YT. Regardless of choice, you dont have to kill the other team, the key is to stay alive, be annoying to them and keep them from taking your stuff.

2 Repliesit would be nice if they secretly turn off sbmm for a week without telling us and see if we notice
-
7 RepliesMatchmaking has been spot on for me.
-
3 Replies9-1 in my last 10 Iron Banner matches. Matchmaking can’t account for how bad most players are. I’m not even a real sweat.
-
2 RepliesBecause people cried about CBMM so they have everything but trials as SBMM. You are in your skill bracket.
-
Do people like clash or did they shut that down? Also I may have just had a better connection in that mode due to who knows what.
-
It's either a really close, and sometimes competitive game, game, or a bugged stompfest where your shots don't even register. Earlier, I was getting shot through a wall by a player with Tarrabah.
