Hi there. Bungie issued everyone 1 extra name token to give anyone who had already used up all of their name changes prior to the bug to be able to change their names back after the bug was fixed. That was the "free" token. If the name field in your settings allows you to type in a different name, then you still have a token. If you can't type in, then you've used all 3 tokens Bungie has provided so far and must wait until they grant players another sometime in the future.

  • Thank you for your answer and time at first. But why should I use MY token, for the bug and mistake THEY did? Everyone who get their name changed by their inability, sorry burnouts their fault, not ours…everyone should get one Token added on. I wouldn’t use MY Token if they didn’t messed up everything, my Token was there, for changing my Username, if I want to change it one day. Why should this opportunity should be taken away from me, if they messed it up. So they make a mistake and instead of feeling sorry and try to give players something back, they make a mistake and continue to take away? If this is true, they lost a day one player…they killed this game so much, but if their goal is now to annoy their community an players on every level, then they succeed with this plan. I will not invest a minute, not invest any money, until I get MY token back…it sounds childish, but it’s about the principle, they can’t make mistakes and let players even „pay“ for it twice, losing the name and then the token…unbelievable with every other developer, but reality with Bungie.

I'm only sharing what Bungie has said previously and their policies. Bungie was not able to revert name changes automatically, so their solution after fixing the bug was to issue all players 1 extra name change token so anyone effected by it could change their names back to what they had themselves. Everyone, including you, received that extra token back in August. You did not have a token taken away from you. https://www.bungie.net/7/en/News/Article/twid_09_05_2024
Name Change Update Last week, we resolved an issue with our monitoring and moderation systems that caused numerous Bungie Name changes on August 13. As a first step to fix this issue, all players have received an additional name change token to update their names if so desired, regardless of whether they were affected or not by this issue.
If the name change area says you have 1 name change available and you can type something in, then you do still have at least one token to use. Players have been allowed 3 name changes so far, including the latest they gave out. That should help you know how many you should have. If you can't change it, that means you used the 2 we had prior to the bug, therefor the 3rd token you received is what allowed you to change it back, which you used as it was intended.

Sorry my friend, if you had the feeling that my comment is against you, or that I wrote something against you, that is absolutely not the case! I’m very thankful that people here are taking their time to help me, to write me, or to explain things to me. But at the same time I’m very angry because of Bungie…and that anger is against Bungie and their decision, but nothing against you, or anyone who is helping me here. Just want to make that clear 🌹 and say sorry if someone is getting it wrong. My problem is, that I NEVER USED a token, I never changed my name, my Username is active since 2014 and it was never changed. So I just used the 1 token to change my name back, because of Bungie…and after that, the text at this menu said, that I can’t change my name any more, because I used my tokens. That’s simply not true, I never used a token until I had to, because of this Bungie Bug…so I should have all my tokens left, but the text is showing me, that I don’t have anything left. So I really want MY TOKENS back, I never used one, so I want to have this opportunity back that should be my „right“. Sorry my english isn’t the best, but I hope it’s understandable enough. I just can’t accept that I lose my tokens, I never changed my name, I never used a token before the bug, but now I’m loosing all of them, because I changed my username back once. BUT THANK YOU GUYS FOR YOUR TIME AND HELP 🌹💐 I really appreciate it very much

  • everyone was issued a token to make up for the error, it allowed players impacted by the bug to go back to where they were beforehand. If you used your 2 changes previously, it allowed you to correct your name. Once you used the change from the bug, it would have put you back where you were before the bug.

  • I never used a single Token, my Name was from D1 (not day one, but 2014) and I never changed anything…after I changed my name back to my old name, the text under my username is saying: that I don’t have any tokens left any more - that can’t be and is unfair in my opinion. I never used a token and lost my token (or tokens) for correcting their mistake.
