Opinion: Revealing Cayde makes it less exciting
Cayde could be in the expansion but like why reveal it. Makes it feel like its going to be a cash grab trying to show all the fans “heeyyyyyy we got ur favorite character! Come play our new shiny expansion” Like cmon thats really the first thing you show about the final shape especially after how disappointing lightfall was? And misleading expectations about titan? Doesn’t feel right just showing off Cayde’s return like that.
Edit: Okay fine I’ll remove it from the title but like it’s literally in the thumbnail on all their social medias
Edit 2: So since everyone else has it in their titles now it isn’t a spoiler 😁
Edit 3: So as an add my general point here is why is Cayde the poster child for an expansion not about him? That is what makes me feel like it was a cash grabby tactic and I don’t usually feel that way about Bungies marketing despite how incredible the person who makes the trailers is.
Edit 4: A lot of people are talking about how its a response to Lightfall being bad. I personally don’t think its related as stuff like this is planned way in advance. And guys Lightfall numbers are the best the game has ever had. I know it doesn’t feel like it but its true.
Edit 5: Okay, so in regards to the previous edit let me specify Lightfalls launch was the best numbers ever I know a lot of people think this expansion sucks which I agree with. Lets relax with the numbers talk 😭😭

3 RepliesHonestly, I think they're in full damage control after Lightfall. They overhyped and underdelivered. They swore that all the seasons would clear everything up and tell the rest of the strory. Then promptly hiked the prices before delivering on said promise. Now they're telling everyone the community favourite is coming back so people will stick with them until the Final Shape, where they can officially drop the game and focus on Marathon.

This gives me time to switch from Hunter to Warlock main, because honestly y’all are so -blam!- insufferable about the most annoying character in the franchise. Might as well bring back Holiday too while we’re bringing back annoying dead characters

2 RepliesI'm not surprised. Bungie also revealed Marathon. They give anything they have, to polish the interest on their products. There's also Matter on the way, they need customers. I don't wanna think much about it, maybe he's just a flashback implemented into a cutscene or The Exo Stranger - Elsie Bray, will bring him back or all of them... However, Bungie, after Lightfall will have it hard to correct the negativity they created. Destiny 2 is their groundwork and they treated it bad for years. They exploited it; who can tell me if they do not work like this again? I wish them luck to bring this in order.

5 RepliesIt doesn't matter what Bungie does to the game. Whatever it is that they add, whoever it is that makes a comeback, I'm still not buying Lightfall. Cayde being in the game doesn't sway me as a consumer to pay for something. I have my own reasons for not buying the expansion; I said I wouldn't do it and I always stick by my word. Although, I am still playing the game to the full extent, just not as much as I would like.

19 RepliesNumbers plumeting, they kill cayde off and then now numbers are plumeting and boom, cayde gets to come back. From a nostalgia and fan side of things, its great.. from a critics point of view, come on, 10 years of the game and we havn't lost anyone of importance and don't tell me Amanda counts.. No Serious deaths in this series at all, unless you count all the players no longer playing. Cash grab for sure here.

4 RepliesNathan Fillion (and his character Cayde-6) is just too much of a draw for the marketing department to abstain from using him in promotional material. I think that’s all there is to it. Cayde had been in lots of teasers and trailers when he was still around. It’s a good character and I’m happy to see him again in the game. Hopefully Bungie is a little more restrained with the comic relief this time. They had overdone it sometimes. His rather tragic story also deserved some serious dramatic bits beyond the grimore.

1 ReplyAgreed about this being planned way in advance, these cinematics definitely arent cheap or anything. If anything this was gonna happen regardless, just like caydes death in forsaken. I can imagine many players are being spoiled that this character even exists or that he died in the first place. Also, the only reason this didnt happen for lightfall was because there was nothing gamechanging to spoil.

3 RepliesI would not categorize this as a cash grab because players have been lamenting the loss of Cayde since he was killed. Bungie responded to the loss. However, the voice did not sound like the old Cayde in the trailer. There probably is a new voice actor. It will be interesting to see what happens with Zavala and Saint 14.
