Difficulty level is getting beyond the average player base

When the lowest level for a dungeon is that difficult, you are only creating content that a tiny portion of your player base can achieve. Don't get me wrong I love a challenge and that certainly was, but there should probably be a mode that is easier for newer players.

    • If your current team isn’t enough to tackle something challenging, everyone should take the time to LFG and play with more experienced players to improve themselves and understand mechanics better. They can go back into it with a more casual and newer team and share what they have learned. Instead of it being a generally easier activity, it should improve the quality of the team upon encounter completion.

    • I think the Dungeon is fine, it's just that it's new and people haven't adjusted to it yet. The timer system isn't even that bad, the rooms are small enough to where 30 seconds is enough to find what you need to then EXTEND the time, usually giving you about a minute and a half in total, which doesn't seem like a lot but with how little is needed to do in the darkness realm, a minute and a half is more than enough time. I've done 10 full clears so far and out of those 10, Vault encounter is what common LFGs get stuck on mostly because of improper loadouts, bad strategies, or just not knowing where to go. I've also done 4 sherpa's of it with what we can consider "average destiny player base" and we got through it no problem, and I don't do main roles while doing sherpa's, I make sure they do the important stuff for a few tries until they understand what's going on, then if they get tired of it I'll switch roles. This issue isn't difficulty or the timer, it's just people are using bad strategies and struggling. Now, there do seem to be some bugs that make it harder for sure, as Phalanx melee's seem to be a one-shot kill no matter what and environmental damage seems to be scaled WAY higher than it should be. The adds that have some form of launching capabilities are generally harder than the bosses for some reason, which I doubt is actually intended as this was recently changed in other parts of the game. And the bell seems to be just killing players for an unknown reason, though my theory is that if you stand too close, when the bell closes the sides clip the character and "crush" them, resulting in a death.

    • I think it's a bit misplaced to complain about end game content being for end game players only. For newer players, there are all of the new seasonal activities to play. On top of that, most casual players will not have completed all of the story quests, exotic quests, etc. By the time they finish those, they are dedicated enough to be able to tackle the end game, especially with some help from a sherpa.

        • I think it’s just going in under leveled too much. There are strong penalties which is why I find the whole “power creep” argument a nonsensical myth. Just keep moving and create loadouts to suit the challenges. Blinding nades work wonders for mobility

          • 1. With higher difficulties, Bungie suggests you get friends, or various "helpers". I find the problem with that is, that they don't actually help, they just play the game for you. My caveat here is I don't doubt there are many, many sherpa types who do help, rather than play the game for you, it's just that I have't run into any. To expand on this, I've had Clan Mates help, but mostly they disappear into the distance, and I "join" at the end and get the loot. A couple of times, I've been in strikes where the two team mates are trying like all get out, but they're not doing the well. I help by killing only the enemies that are about to kill them. I have actually had messages of appreciation when this foes happen. Mind you, the others have to realise what you are doing, or they die too many times anyway. 2. I can't see why "Matchmaking" and "Co-operative" can't be a choice. Why does Bungie INSIST you find a team yourself? Try Solo (Co-op) , and if it cannot be done, then move onto Matchmade, and it it still can't be done, then chase down a team somehow. Or abandon the whole idea. 3. Get rid of any Time Gating! It contributes absolutely nothing, other than a lazy way to increase difficulty. 4. I suspect the reason why player say "get gud" is merely ego inflation. Their real life is crap, and this is a way to tell the world that they're really, really good at video games, doncha know? 5. If it's necessary to "get gud" to play a certain activity, and you can't play the activity because you "ain't gud", good luck with "getting gud" 6. If Bungie spent a little more time on active content, i.e. designing difficulty levels, rather than sit on their bums drawing countless acres of empty scenery, maybe the game would be a tad better. Is it really necessary to travel so far between areas? 7. I dunno, but I would guess the declining player numbers (What? 7 million to less than a million over a couple of years?) is less to do with player Burnout. than it is to do with abandonment after a few sessions of play, due to getting nowhere. 8. So many bangles, baubles and beads! Seals! Badges! Triumphs! Banners! Ornaments! All do nothing. The last thing I do is look at is some players Banner, and drool over his/her accomplishments. If you preen around in front of me at the Tower, showing off your jewelry and makeup, I'm sorry, but I don't care!

            • There are several issues relating to this for me... I have arthritis in my hands, a ganglion cyst on the carpal tendon, and this adds to the difficulty and my hands get achy jumping a lot. When I enter a dungeon, or lost sector to complete a legendary, I can never get to break the barriers, or, when I do, I cannot kill it because my hands get tired and achy jumping.

While I disagree that the dungeon is too hard, I think you have a fair point that it could scare off newer players. We would have to have it so loot is dialed down, but that really wouldn’t work because people would find a way to farm/cheese it. While it might suck, it is a paid dungeon, so new players are much less likely to buy and play it anyway, so it really isn’t as much of a big deal as everyone is making it out to be

This dungeon, set an example of Mechanic Heavy play rather then just go and shoot like Grasp, prophecy, shattered throne, Pit. I personally liked it cause this give you a sense of accomplishment after finishing it cause this dungeon especially the final encounter is unforgiven, you messed up, gotta start again, yeah some tuning might make it go a little bit faster, like instead of 4 essence collection make it maybe 2? and remember, you are still underpowerd on the last encounter (1570) so you will be more spongy then you'd think you are, but once you got the mechanics lay down and with a little bit of timing, it's a 3 phase boss done, some of even finish the last encounter in one phase. Look for your build and come up with the strategy which suits your playstyle, and the final encounter took us about 2 hour to finish for the first time, cause of it. Yet, enjoyed it, and it will get easier once you at the level.

                    • Why should there be an EZ mode for newer players when this is endgame content? It is supposed to be challenging.

                      • The game would be boring without the challenge these days. It's been out for too long to make it easy. People would quit. Gms on the other hand need to be tuned down with damage. Good lord. The new resilience change might help with that though. I'll take mass horde difficulty over one shot non sense any day. Gms like lightblade are literally impossible for average players.

At one side, I can understand players defending the difficulty and on the other I also understand the demand for adjustment. I would please both of them. That's possible with different difficulties and, in that case, different rewards. Someone here said, the difficulty is equal, with the campaign of The Witch Queen, on legendary, which, I played, and enjoyed solo. - But I can't confirm that, after the first boss of Duality.

I would go for an optional tutorial mode for all raids and dungeons which gives no rewards, and enemies that give miniscule damage but gives hints as to the mechanics. If you want to go blind .. great. If you want to learn it slowly.. great. That way players can learn the way they want but still get to the place where they can complete it. I did Grasp the night of release with no mic and an LFG group. Duality ?? .. Its just tedious to me. I have a hard time understanding some of these mechanics and they just come across as being overly complicated and pretty pointless really. I think Grasp hit the right level of difficulty in my opinion. Oh, and before some kidlet with less life experience than some of my t-shirts rocks up with a post that looks like the spelling and punctuation means they typed it wearing boxing gloves, while telling me to "get gud" .. don't bother. I fly helicopters for a living, something that requires a level of mental and physical co-ordination and planning beyond most people. I just don't get why Bungie make content for players, without catering to all skill levels. Then again this game is based on getting more powerful, only to become less powerful every three months. So you can be more powerful. Again.

I think bungie just needs to add more ways to build for newer more difficult content. Getting high stat armor, the mods required for builds, the exotic required… It all takes a lot of farming and rng that must be really rough for a new player compared to me who pretty much has everything already. Sure I can build solar 3.0 into an enemy melting machine, but a newer player would likely need months if not years of grinding to get up to that point as well gear wise. The newer content being more difficult is perfectly fine in my opinion, as the game has to evolve at least a little bit. But removing earlier content and not giving any efficient ways to farm exotics and mods is a problem.

                            • You know what makes it easier, if everyone has a mic. Seriously what's up with people trying to do no mic blind dungeon clears. Even in raids I've noticed an increase in people joining without a mic, thinking they can just get a free carry.
