I recently made a post for nickname requests in my Wilting Y modified Nuzlocke. That's still up if you're interested, but this thread is where I'll be posting updates on the run that aren't related to nicknames.
What is Wilting Y?
Pokémon Wilting Y is a ROM hack of Pokémon Y that makes all 721 Pokémon in the game obtainable, changes level scaling, and makes the game more challenging in general. Full details can be found by clicking the link above, but here are the basics:
- All 721 Pokémon are obtainable.
- Trainers have better AI, stronger teams, and more Pokémon.
- Level curve is tougher and built around using the experience share at all times.
- Important trainers will always have 6 Pokémon and max AI. Some will even use "minor" legendaries in the late game.
I'm using the "rebalanced" version, which also changes the base stats, moves, abilities, and types of various Pokémon to make them more interesting and/or viable. For example, Milotic is now a Water/Fairy type and Luxray gets Volt Tackle at level 70.
Softlocke Rules:
This is a Softlocke, a name I just invented because it's kinda funny. It's not meant to be as restrictive as a typical Nuzlocke, but still adds some challenge compared to a standard playthrough.
- If a Pokémon faints, it's dead. It can no longer be used in battle (but can be used for HMs if necessary to progress).
- I can only catch one Pokémon per route. Unlike normal Nuzlockes, it doesn't have to be the first Pokémon encountered, meaning I have a bit more agency over what types of Pokémon I can build my team around.
- Pokémon can only be captured in default Poké Balls (i.e. no Great Balls, Ultra Balls, etc.). Yes, I have crippling OCD. How did you know?
- All Pokémon must be nicknamed (I loathe nicknaming Pokémon, but rules are rules). You can request names for Pokémon in this thread!
- Battle type is set (no free switch when a trainer sends out their next Pokémon).
- Only 5 [ib]healing items per battle, resets if one of my Pokémon faints. Status restoring items and X-stat items aren't limited.
- No legendary or mythical Pokémon can be used until postgame. Sorry, not sorry.
Special Clauses:
- Shiny Clause: I can catch any shiny Pokémon that appears, even if I already caught a Pokémon on that route.
- Bullshit Clause: Unavoidable deaths and stuff like destiny bond don't count. OHK crits from non-super effective attacks also count as BS unless I'm underlevelled. Wobuffet is automatic BS clause and banned, screw that noise.
- Revive Clause: Revives that I find can be used to revive a Pokémon, but only if used during the battle that it would have died in. Max Revives can be used outside of battle because they're so rare. REVIVES CANNOT BE PURCHASED, that would be too lenient.
Death Counter: 0
Deaths will also be posted in the nickname thread as a (Dead) tag next to the Pokémon's name.
Badge Counter: 4
I just bought Legends Arceus, so the Wilting Y run is on hold while I inevitably lose months of my life to a new game.

Guess who just spent 40 minutes typing an extremely detailed account of what was by far the most interesting gym battle to date, only to have the STUPID -BLAM!-ING APP crash when I went to copy a YouTube link? Yeah. I'm livid.
You're insane if you think I'm typing all that again, so here's the abridged version:
Pyra (Mega Charizard Y) set up Drought, then outsped and OHK'd the first 4 Pokémon. She then missed an Air Slash against Ludicolo (or as I call it, Ludickolo [Yes, that joke was in the original draft]). Ludicolo then set up rain dance, so I switched into Aifos, who (in true Aifos fashion) laughed as a rain-boosted Hydro Pump plinked a fraction of her health bar away. Switched back to pyra to quad resist the grass move I predicted and re-set up Drought. Air Slash hit. Focus Sash saved Ludicolo, who set up another Rain Dance. Guess who gets to repeat the last 3 turns? This guy! Not wanting to miss Air Slash and relive the last 10 minutes of my life, I used Flame Burst... and didn't kill it (he used a hyper potion instead of Giga Drain last cycle). Guess who gets to repeat the last 3 turns AGAIN?! THIS GUY!!! Air Slash murdered it this time. Good riddance.
I had a funny quip about forgetting that this ROM hack lets hard trainers Mega Evolve, but I'm too annoyed to repeat it. His Venusaur had Chlorophyll, allowing it to outspeed Pyra (speed calcs take place before Mega Evolution, so he still got the speed boost despite his ability changing to Thick Fat). He used his one turn of outspeeding Pyra to... miss a sleep powder. Cool. Flame Burst didn't OHK (Thick Fat), but Pyra outsped and finished the job the second time.
Now we have 4 badges, so we're moving on to the Power Plant, home of some of the best music in the franchise! (Seriously, you'd better go watch that -blam!-ing video, I lost 40 minutes of text grabbing that link. That guy does awesome covers.)
Older Events:

I've been busy for the last few days, Locke uodates should resume tomorrow.

Shiva (Absol) made what would've been a difficult rival battle against Serena into an absolute joke by critting literally every single attack. Swords Dance + Super Luck + Night Slash/Psycho Cut is busted, man.
The fight would have been much harder without that, as her Greninja had Protean. Too bad it died in two hits (the first was resisted, but not the second due to Protean changing it to mono-ice type).

Aifos (Milotic) once again carried us through a gym, but with a little help this time.
Pyra (Charmeleon) took out Korrina's Breloom after *barely* surviving a hit. Aifos (Milotic), who has the added bonus of being Fairy type and having Dazzling Gleam due to the Wilting Y rebalance patch, took over from there, securing clean kills against most of Korrina's team.
We had another big scare when her Hawlucha crit with a flying gem-boosted Acrobatics, leaving Aifos with 9 HP right before she sent it into oblivion with a STAB Dazzling Gleam. If the rebalance patch hadn't put her in a faster experience tier, she would've been toast.
Long live Aifos, sweeper of gyms!

Pyra (Charmeleon) evolved into Charizard at level 36.

Ryza (Luxio) evolved into Luxray at level 30.

Aifos (Milotic) hard carried the team through Grant's rock type gym, making a full sweep of the leader's team.
Her ability, Competitive, came in clutch in this battle. Competitive increases her special attack stat by two stages every time one of her stats is lowered, and Grant's Tirtouga opened with three Rock Tombs before dying. This lowered her speed by three stages, but maxed her special attack, allowing her to almost OHK one of Grant's Pokémon even through Light Screen. The rest fell quickly after it wore off.
I had to use all 5 of my healing items on her, though, as she was slower than all of his Pokémon, tanked multiple crits, and got poisoned twice. Aqua Ring was a big help in keeping her alive as well.

19 RepliesIn other words, I’m amazing. *flips hair* You’re welcome.
This kinda makes me want to do Darkest Dungeon with my Friends again. Basically this same thing (running through a game with permadeath, naming characters after folk), but with Darkest Dungeon.
