Look, I’ll be honest right out of the gate. I’m a Hunter main.
ewwww…
Yeah, I know, but I still try and play my other classes.
With that out of the way, I recently saw a post discussing potentially giving Hunters a buff in some way, for PvE at least, stating that more and more LFG groups seem to only want Titans and Warlocks. I see this as a pretty fair point. It was only then that I noticed a reply to the post that said something along the lines of, “Absolutely not. Hunters are op. If anything they need a nerf.”
Being the mad lad I am, I then proceeded to respond with this essay of a reply
“In PvE or PvP? Personally, I’d hardly say that they’re op by any standard from an objective lens.
In PvE, it’s undeniable that endgame content is dominated by Wells, Bubbles, Bleak Watcher, Thundercrash, and Chaos Reach. A Celestial shot doesn’t really keep up quite as well with Cuirass in the game and Tether is sometimes useless (at least for this season) due to seasonal mods. Sure there is smoke bomb which comes in handy, but the amount of posts nowadays for GMs and Master VoG asking specifically for no Hunters, shows the underperformance. You want a high damage super? Sure, but Titans do it better. You want to use Revenant to freeze ads? Sure, but Warlocks have Bleak Watcher. Want to debuff a boss? Makes absolute sense, as long as there isn’t a seasonal mod that does it well and doesn’t use a super (looking at you Breach and Clear and Oppressive Darkness).
In PvP, I think there’s a bit more of an argument for Hunters being good, though I do notice some complaints just being about the double jump ability. However, looking at KDAs, win rates, and popularity, (done through guardian.gg) the statistics consistently show Warlocks reigning supreme, specifically Dawnblade and Stormcaller. While console stats do show more relevance for Hunters, PC makes it no contest for Warlocks, having Hunter subclasses 5th, at the earliest, for both KDA and win rate (though this does not include Stasis subclasses). Yeah, Revenant is somewhat more annoying, but that is ultimately just 1 subclass that is Stasis, which launched as the most oppressive thing in the Crucible as a whole.
I’m not trying to be the “Hunter Defender,” I’m just trying to look at this from an objective standpoint. Sorry for the essay, lol.”
Now it’s possible that I’m out of the loop and it turns out that Hunters are truly op. But that’s why I’m here, to ask you, yes specifically you, what your thoughts are. Are Hunters op? Do they need a nerf? Do they need a buff?
Also, let’s keep it civil. Replying to each other saying “you’re a moron” isn’t really the pinnacle of thoughtful discussion. It’s just a person’s opinion.

Nah Hunters are fine

In my opinion, just nerf everything hunters have.

5 RepliesThere's a reason Hunters are the dominant class in PvP. They have the advantage, the majority of the balance is in their favor. I would like to see my theory put to the test. The 6 top hunter mains vs the 6 top titan mains vs the 6 top warlock mains. Place your bets guardians!!!!

Edited by PoolsidePoseidon: 7/21/2021 11:03:05 PMI'm all for some PvE love on hunters. More than buffs or nerfs, it really agitates me that hunters have so few variation between subclasses, and subclass trees. I mean Arc is basically the exact same across all three variations. Void has one significant difference between its top tree and bottom tree being the way you activate invisibility. Solar just feels like they split a class in half (spoiler - Thats what they did) outside of the rework to the weighted knife which I acknowledge has been super awesome. EDIT* - Sorry I should have specified I'm only accounting for the light subclasses not the stasis subclasses

4 RepliesEdited by Ghostfire239: 7/22/2021 10:52:16 PMPvP I think we’re good where we are. Hunters are pretty damn strong there PvE I think we could use some help. My biggest pain point is Celestial Nighthawk and how it compares to something like Falling Star. Now, I love Falling star and I don’t want any nerfs to happen to it, but I would like to see Nighthawk get buffed to be closer to its level. Right now a solar singe buffed Nighthawk is just barely able to compete with a non arc songs buffed Falling Star. I don’t think Nighthawk should do more than falling star but a precision shot from it should at least be pretty close to it.

Buff thighs

1 ReplyWe’re fine in PvP. In PvE we’ve been shit on with THREE Orpheus Rigs nerfs, boss Tether was eclipsed by Divinity, and Celestial Golden Gun was eclipsed by Cuirass Thundercrash. Arc Staff has been straight cheeks since it’s conception, and they had a chance to change that in Forsaken yet decided to just “haha spinny staff go brrrr” So we’re stuck with Stasis somehow being the only subclass that stands out because Squall will Add clear by itself, something no other Super does. Thing is we had something going with Star Eater Tethers, then Bungie went and shut that shit down.

Imagine even mentioning the most used class in pvp to get a buff 😂😄😂😄

As a nightstalker main (top tree), yes, there has been a considerable drop in effectiveness in pve. Can still survive better than anyone but that's about it. Our abilities have been nerfed nearly into the ground and the seasonal mods just made things worse. After the last round of ability nerfs to trappers the only real saving grace we had was O-Rig still being able to grant our supers back, albeit it was tweaked to grant less energy per enemy, but we still were able to get it back. Then that was capped at 50%, sooo long our saving grace. Now we're like a cute quark running around among the reining dps kings. A real shame too. There's quite a bit of potential for a de-buff subclass, if bungie would just stop nerfing and start buffing intelligently.

2 RepliesEdited by Docyx13: 7/21/2021 6:57:54 PMIn the last bit of every season once the PvE tuff is basically a wrap and I'm bored I'll throw myself into a ton of crucible. Since the shotgun nerf I'm pretty happy with the sandbox for the most part. There are some things that I'd like to see changed (and are being changed). 1) Celestial Fire is easily the strongest melee in the game. It's kinda crazy it's a thing the way it is now. It's being nerfed. Not exactly sure how to solve that issue other than killing the tracking and travel speed similar to the hunter shuriken. 2) 2 Icarus Dash without cooldown and the way Icarus works in super is pretty insane too. Being nerfed, but hopefully not nuked. Maybe like one dash and a cooldown, but don't get rid of it. Also...Lions Rampant? But that's a whoooole other post. 3) Fusion rifles in close quarters seem a tad too strong. I thought it was supposed to be that you're basically dead if you charge it up in front of someone and the real skill is with pre charge timing. It kinda feels like they have a bit too much forgiveness. Like you MIGHT be able to kill a fusion user with a 180 or 120 before being murdered. Rework coming so we'll see. 4) Shade Binder's super feels like the shatter radius is kind of crazy. I would sort of lobby for reducing the tracking on the freezing mechanism a little bit and drastically reducing the shatter radius. 5) Grenade launchers and the Le Monarch to HC clean up seem pretty insane. I know GLs are getting a look. I just don't super love this easy prime and clean up look. I recognize that I piled on warlocks pretty heavy, but honestly nothing a titan or hunter has done recently has felt overly oppressive. If anything, they could probably buff stasis titan back up a tad. Hunter stasis super is tricky because part of me wants to see it buffed because kill potential is low, but I know buffing it will probably make it oppressive. Just passing thoughts.

9 RepliesEdited by Wes: 7/20/2021 8:31:21 PMHunters underperform across the board in PvE due to seasonal mods, tether getting nerfed, Celestial doing less damage than Nova and Missile, and the better utility and add clear potential of Warlock and Titan supers. Buffs here are warranted. Hunters are statistically middle of the road, or just barely above, in PvP, with the exception of Revenant. However, I'm not sure a buff here is a good idea. Maybe neutral game abilities, sure. But any movement buffs should be avoided 100%. Like, imagine if Hunters had Icarus Dash. These forums would look a lot different... Personally, I think the neutral game synergy within top tree Dawnblade is the staple that all classes should strive to be. Every node of the class works together. Only issue is Icarus Dash is literally the best ability in the game, hands down. The gap between that and number two isn't even close. Miles apart.

PvE? Sure, Hunters have fairly limited options outside of add clear with Revenant or support with Omni. Star eaters require way too much set up to come close to being able to out dps other options and celestial just doesn't cut it anymore. Tether and arc are useless. PvP? Bit more of a contentious topic... Hunters outnumber the other classes by a large margin. This has nothing to do with balancing imo, as very few go into a game picking a class based on stats and perk trees. Few change the class they main once they start. Stats support this, as Hunter subclasses generally underperform compared to other classes options. Warlocks clearly dominate in the current meta, with top-tree Dawn outperforming every other subclass (at behemoth's peak too) in competitive playlists. Geomags chaos also seem to be everywhere. When it comes to supers and subclasses as a whole the only Hunter subclass imo that could possibly be considered 'broken' is revenant. Solely for shatterdive. A one-shot combo that requires more setup than something like hhsn, or a shoulder charge, at a trade off of an awful melee ability, slower ability regen, and a meh super (people severely overestimate silence, less killing potential than every single other shut-down super except tether, with only slightly more zoning potential). Stomps could use some tuning though. But atm, compared to other classes, they probably don't need a buff, definitely don't need a nerf. In PvP anyway.

1 ReplyGive Titans and Warlocks triple jumps and let's see how that turns out. It is this one mechanic in the game that makes Hunters very powerful in PvP.
-
3 RepliesWarlocks are 100% the strongest PvP class. Healing/emp rift, top tree dawn and chaos really solidify its place in PvP. I’m not saying Hunters or Titans are weak, but Warlocks are the strongest.
-
3 RepliesPersonally I can't stand how advantageous hunters are in pvp. Double and triple jump give way too much of an advantage for them to be the only class with it. Also dodge in comparison with the other two class abilities is absolutely cheese regarding it's cool down. Also there's the added benefit of the exotics that couple with it being able to be activated far more frequently than other class ability exotics due to the cool down. Add in glacial and shatter dive and you have an easy win pvp class through and through. (Only talking console here)

5 RepliesIdk I love playing Hunter but to due to how Toxic the Players are, most Hunters mistake Cheese For Skill. So for a Class with high Synerge it MIGHT look like Warlocks are broken, but the abilities don't Synergize and are clunky.
We don't have Solar Subclass that increase Reload Speed and Stability, and Charges Super on Headshots.. we don't have abilities that allow to dodge and avoid bullets for free. We don't have abilities that allow us to Roll and gain back our melee Ability if we do it near Enemies (in fact Warlocks lost a an Arc Perk, and it got replaced with sub-perks Perpetual Charge, get a melee kill and recharge grenades and vice versa). Void Tether has been buffed so much it's stupidly easy to get kills, just dodge and jump between bow shots.(fyi increased Resistance to damage, increase to Super Activation Speed,) the ability to tether people it flys by mid air, stop people countering tether if it flys by u. There is no Counter to Tether or. Hunter Spamming light attack on Spectral Blades. Blade barrage is an A.O.E tracking One shot super (that does shatter unlike our nova,) You have a super that can one shot a Gaurdians cross map and another Super that allows you to spam attack and slam your lightening staff and again One Shot people. Hunters Arc Super is a faster TTK than Warlocks, and is only Matched by Titans. You have a Stasis Air Slam that should be a Titan or Warlock Move.
--- The problem is Hunters have High Syngery and High Mobility, and Mistake Cheese for Skill. And Warlocks have Low Synergize, and have to spend 4-6 months developing a build well a Hunter can speed roll and shotgun spam his way through content. I don't want to get into an Argument. a Hunter is stupidly Powerful, with unlimited amounts of synergy in skill perks, than you look at the Mods available in game, for example look at the Well of Tenacity Mod, Class ability Dodge And reload and make a Void Orb, and than Grab an ability that gives u higher damage resistance or gives u maxed out intellect. Solar multi kills can spawn healing orbs, so for example, my common build, Throw a Knife, get a Kill, dodge roll, and throw another Knife and spawn an orb of Healing. And proceed to walk through content without dying on my Hunter. Titan and Warlocks Litterally can't pull off your Level of Syngery, cause MORE CARE and EFFORT was put into Designing and the Hunter than other classes. Don't blame other players for being mad at Hunters, it's a reasonable anger, look at Bungie everyone, don't blame the Classes, loom at who made the classes. Blame for Bungie for not caring about Balance and making Hunter stupidly Cheesy and Favor High Synergy for that Class alone. - It's not the Players Fault, it's Bungies.

In pve u can get away with anything. U do not NEED bleak watcher or cuirass but it's GREAT to have them. Makes everything SIGNIFICANTLY easier. In pvp, hunter movement is unparalleled. Resetting gun fights and escaping with dodge is second to none. Of course, icarus dash has closed the gap a lot and chaos reach gets its mojo from the insane amount of supers u can produce. But hunter strafe jump especially paired with stompees...u can't beat that. Almost all top level players play with either hunter or dawn/chaos. Not hunter or warlock. It's a fine margin.
-
4 RepliesBuild crafting with hunters is easier than with any class, much more versatile than titans and warlocks overall. Breach and clear is only seasonal, so missing tether in dps is only temporal. Heart of the pack is underrated, allowing you to quickswap shotties for maximizing dps in activities. Invis will always be a great tool. If anyone disagrees, come fight me.
-
Hunters are only really a problem on console. Vertical frame movement is to slow to keep up with stompees jump. 90% of the competitive hunters I ran into in comp last night just spammed glacier nades and shatterdive. I mean overall they have the best abilities and exotic support in pvp. Warlocks are cracked on pc cause of movement and little input delay with dash. I still think the recharge on dodge needs to be WAY slower, it shouldn’t proc reload perks and to fix it the animation on barrier and rift needs to be doubled. Hunters are an easy to use class at the end of day. Nothing wrong with it. On console they’ll always reign supreme.
-
I am mostly a pve player so my hunter is the least used...i just don't find any fun build for it But I'm not blind to the fact that they are extremely dominant in PVP for how easy they are to use .good super variety, jumping and dodge are extremely good (and that's without 1 of the many exotic that boost dodge) I wish they were more fun in honestly if someone as a build to recomend I'm down
-
I personally feel the problem isn't with any particular class or subclass. The problem is the need to do the most amount of damage in a short amount of time. Most groups want specific Titans and Warlocks because of the amount of solid damage that can be done. Bungie needs to find a balance between player damage and enemy resistance to damage to make most if not all classes viable. Currently a lot of sub classes aren't useful in endgame content, especially during boss phases.
-
Pvp hunters don't need buffed Pve they should be doing more damage kinda want to see blade barrage buffed a little bit same with golden gun. Top tree Arc strider has insane potential with melee builds but in gm content it makes melee builds irrelevant. Void hunter is pretty good top and bottom tree couod be even better though if suppressing abilities worked on champions abilities. Middle tree is a bit lacking the melee debuff is nice if you can get off would make it better if you could activate it with a smoke bomb. Revanant was nice last season because of the light abilities doing more damage to slowed or frozen targets with the artifact mods but with that gone stasis turret is just better at crowd control the super is pretty awesome though.

Also, let’s keep it civil. Replying to each other saying “you’re a moron” isn’t really the pinnacle of thoughtful discussion. It’s just a person’s opinion.
Sounds like something YOUR MOM would say ha HA HAAAAA
For PvE I’d put them as third best. Some would call it worst, and that’s technically true, however it’s far too harsh for how close I consider them. PvE 1. Warlock 2. Titan 3. Hunter I’d like to see a buff to Blade Barrage and a rework of both Tethers. For PvP they’re a definite second, possible first, if top tree dawn gets nerfed without stompies being looked at too. PvP 1. Warlock 2. Hunter 3. Titan Both Golden Guns, the dodge, jump, other exotics, spectral blades, revenant, and middle tree arcstrider are pretty good, in my opinion. More important than both PvE and PvP, Hunters are top in the fashion game. Every armor piece is notable, with cloaks having the hood and cape (or lack of either) be noticeable and impactful. FASHION 1. Hunter 2. Titan 3. Warlock Unfortunately many looks are uninteresting, and uninspired. But that can go for all classes. Woah! A cape-less, all black, stompie (or Baskris) Hunter! Golly gee, brotato chip, you’ve achieved the pinnacle of fashion! So in conclusion, Third in PvE Second in PvP First in fashion Overall, pretty ok.
I still need some kind of GENUINE explanation on why hunters are "broken", cos i still dont understand why were complained about so much.
-
I can understand completely did a master vog last night guy came in on hunter he said hed change cos he was a hunter i said keep it on tbh play as you are and i said ive seen posts for no hunters dunno why as blade berage can keep up with dps i feel hunters need a pve buff or bring back the boots for teather back how they were btw im a warlock main almost 5k hours on him for d2

Hunters definitely need some PvE love this time around. Hunters are fine in PvP though. Warlocks need a little PvP love (just Voidwalker).
