For once im addressing this msinly to the community, instead of mainly bungie. Granted I still have no intention of debating this topic with the community, just a open message on one of the belief's some of us have, that I feel is good, but needs a different approach.
The topic of a eventual "destiny killer" comes up whenever some form of a sci-fi looter shooter comes up, with or without MMO elements. Warframe was once a comparison, division was once (if you didn't include sci-fi) anthem was once (that was such a joke it's funny people even thought to trust EA). Now we got outriders indirectly contributing to this poor excuse to get bungie to improve.
Think about it real quick, several times people wanted a upcoming game to be a "destiny killer". That tells me 2 things.
Destiny is successfully, where other's don't come close.
Despite destinies success, people really want a change of some sort in destiny, or a equivalent.
Competition can be a good thing for destiny. Outright killing it is just flat out wrong. If those who wanted an actual "destiny killer" really wanted one, we would've stopped playing this game completely back in d2 year 1, and not bought any future expansions or eververse items. We wouldn't be here in this forum, posting or reading anything here. We wouldn't be doing anything in destiny, or with it's community.
If you hop into destiny just to play with friends, you still care for destiny.
If you only hop on forums and watch certain videos/streams on destiny, you still care for destiny.
If your on this forum, you still care for destiny.
IF YOU CARE FOR DESTINY, YOU DON'T WANT A DESTINY KILLER.
Destiny needs a rival. If you genuinely want a destiny killer, and you haven't quit destiny, quit now, or swallow your pride.
Don't expect any replies from me.

"Destiny killer" has taken on the new meaning of future dead game if people are calling outriders a destiny killer I'm not even going to try it. its already cursed
-
Those are the same kids that still believe in the Console wars. Who cares who does what. All things Die....
-
4 RepliesThe only "Destiny killer" in sight is Bungie. The current state of the game is ridiculous.
-
Every thing known as a destiny killer has died, outsiders hasent yet. Hopefully.
-
2 Replies“Game is dead” “That game will kill this game” This is just an immature mentality, you are kind of wasting your time tbh.
-
Still waiting for the day that those that haven't yet finally realize no single game will kill destiny, destiny IS the destiny killer. It's the decisions, changes ect bungie make mistakes included that may lead to the games death, not another random game.

Nostalgia and blinded fans is what makes this game to live, even when the numbers are low, those virgins will never stop playing the game 8+ hours a day all week
-
I ask for both. If Destiny can’t deal with competitors then it deserves to fail. Rewarding mediocrity isn’t a winning strategy
-
6 RepliesYou’re asking people being driven by emotion and identity to be reasonable. Otherwise, hard to disagree with.

4 RepliesMy hope is that all the D2 whiners will go play Outriders and leave D2 to those that truly enjoy it for what it is. I mean almost every body has a opinion on what it should be or what needs to be fixed. Not everyone can be right, sure there are some improvements that could be made. But couldn’t you say the same about any game. It seems this community demands a perfection that doesn’t exist in any game. I will never understand it. If you don’t like it don’t play it, move on and leave it to those that do. Life’s to short to sweat the load over something you can’t control. Plenty of games in the universe go find one that you enjoy, have fun rinse and repeat.

Outriders does a lot of stuff better than destiny but is just smaller which sucks

1 ReplyI just wish Warframe's strike type missions were better, you can just run through them in a minute. I also wish they had some type of raids, or some type of endgame content. I know they removed them, but still not brought back yet. I enjoy the game, but wish there was more similarity to those aspects of Destiny. The endgame of Warframe is platinum and riven collecting, and it's fine, but if they could so those things, I think it would peel more Destiny players away.

2 RepliesDestiny won’t be killed. Nothing does what destiny does to the level of success Bungie do it. Like you said, rivals are good and they do exist but Bungie managed to get all the things right with Destiny that keep people coming back. Yes it can be better and it does always have issues but it’s still great. People who said destiny is dead or a rival will ‘kill’ it are just bitter and toxic.

Destiny cant be beat, its one of a kind. It has pvp and pve and modes where both are implemented. Its first person and has 3rd person animations for supers, and swords. There is no game like destiny, nothing will ever beat destiny and any game that tries will fail every single time unless it has what destiny has. Anthem cant kill destiny, its dead. Outriders is good but lacks pvp and first person so it cant compare. Borderlands is first person but has no pvp and players cant choose a gender if they like how one characters play style. Is destiny a perfect game? Not by a long run, there are just as many issues with destiny as any other game but destiny cant be beat without a dev releasing a game and being called a copy cat.

And it will not replace it.i habe nothing too do in destiny really..so i bought and am playing outriders..i reccomend it

destiny killer is a vocab created by streamer and YouTubers, literally no one cares if a game beats another, no one cares
-
Right now Outriders would be a contender, at least in terms of how to do loot correct.
-
When the big destiny streamers dont play this shit much you know its in a bad state

Edited by AbsolutZeroGI: 4/5/2021 2:56:35 AMIt's not that destiny is successful. It hemorrhages players, it caters to the top 10%, and it's slowly but surely dying. People are looking for a place to go because this place isn't the place to go anymore. That's why they want a D2 killer, so everyone can abandon the game and be done with it. Just because people like the premise doesn't mean they like they direction.

I don't think Outriders is a Destiny killer. I've been playing it. Matchmaking is still broken, but the game is doing OK. It crashed each day since launch, but not as bad as Anthem. It's quite repetitive. Go here, kill the ads, fight the boss, get the reward. The crafting is good, but I don't know that they hit the mark. For me, I don't bother to upgrade my gear. You constantly get upgraded stuff. I just change the mods each time to work with my abilities. The tier levels are a good idea and I constantly play at the highest ones because of the challenge, but if you played normal, like Destiny, you'd get there eventually. It's a fun game, but I don't think it will kill Destiny. It's good, but IMHO it's just a different game.

At this point I just don’t think a Destiny killer can be made. The one and only game that is going to kill Destiny is Destiny itself, and while it seemed like we were on that path with sunsetting and the DCV, I doubt it’s going to happen. While it may often be a glitchy and buggy mess, Destiny as a franchise has so much more effort put into it than any game designed to actively steal its playerbase, and the combination of FPS and RPG gameplay is very unique and very well made.

2 RepliesEdited by A_mo: 4/4/2021 2:51:51 PMCompetition smompetition. Destiny doesn't need a rival to make it better. They've done it according to me, no-lifer from the internet, they have created "The Game." Do you all not see the evolution of the PvP? EDIT: Also, if you really think about it, its ridiculous to think that another company would be able to cover the amount of ground this one has in a small enough amount of time to ever compete with what this game is actually doing. Years of learnings. Acknowledge the learnings.

Don't be daft. A Destiny killer would obviously kill Destiny by living up to the potential Destiny squanders away. That is (duh) what everyone wants. A Destiny rival would just mean 2 time suck games that don't feel like they reward playtime. Get out of here with that half baked hippie koombahya crap.
-
Look no further than WWE after they bought out WCW. No rival...effort slips and product quality goes with it.
-
Outriders anyone?
-
I can't think of any game coming anytime soon will rival Destiny.
