A matchmade fireteam without mics in Trials while I have a coordinated team and communication? Sounds good to me! Where do I sign the petition for people that would use that matchmaking and get stomped on? It would create a disaster in Trials even beyond what we have now. There's also not even close to enough players willing to go into the playlist to support a second playlist. The population is not high enough to split it. If you want to "matchmake" with random people and have zero communication during Trials, just LFG a no-mic Trials team. Get destroyed by everybody, but at least you get what you want without further damaging the game mode.

Nightfalls should get matchmaking for at least Legend difficulty but that’s about it. Dungeons don’t really need it. Those can be soloed. You start throwing matchmaking into activities with mechanics and you start getting players who don’t want to play it because they think it’s harder than it is when other randoms cause wipes or never ending encounters. Trials would also be a bad idea. Matchmaking would give a significant advantage to premade teams. Then you’re making the “competitive” mode easier. You’d have to have a freelance playlist to keep it fair. But the trials player pool isn’t healthy enough to support 2 trials playlists. If any of the activities we can matchmake in currently have thought me anything it’s that randoms struggle with even the most basic mechanics or objectives

I understand your side But optional or not, it’s a very bad idea. strictly because the activities that you want match making in, require teamwork and basic knowledge of mechanics. I doubt the people who want matchmaking want to teach every time they want to raid or what not. For example, Imagine you’re new but want to do last wish. You enter matchmaking for it and get grouped with 5 randos who are also new. Now try getting communication with them set up and try completing an encounter with 0 people knowing what to do. First encounter is 5-10 minutes normally, now it’s been an hour and someone still keeps standing on the wrong plate or dying to a blight or people refuse to run a proper loadout for dps or simply cannot figure out the safe rooms. Then there’s the fact that the game isn’t set to just 1 region so you can end up playing with people who don’t speak any bit of your native tongue and vice versa. It just won’t work. Strikes and hunts already show how bad randoms are. Lets not forget that match-made activities don’t have a designated fire team leader (to prevent trolling) Meaning, if someone just decides to troll or afk or just cannot perform, you can’t do anything about them. You have to look at it from every angle and not just assume people don’t want matchmaking because they want to gate casuals. There are just too many variables and I doubt you want X to give it to ya. This is why lfg is a thing. It’s not hard to use and there is literally one on this site you posted on. I used it last night to do a GM. Used it the other day for trials and have used it many times for raids.

I would be ok with matchmaking on legend nightfalls, dungeons should stay the way they are, and trials could have a separate matchmade playlist that doesn't match you with the non matchmade, to stop people from going into matchmade games and destroying everyone, I would remove flawless rewards from the matchmade playlist.

If Bungie didn't have a history of nerfing matchmade endgame content I would 100 percent agree. But people complain it's to hard and they make it easier.

I don’t think Trials should have matchmaking. I might play a few more games and be a little more successful (which wouldn’t take much) if they did but it shouldn’t. Trials is the PvP version of the PvE raids and awards the best gear. It should be reserved for teams prepared to work together. You can use lfg with varying success to get into these activities if you want and it’s essentially matchmaking. As far as all the others activities, sure, go for optional matchmaking. Just remember as you choose to use matchmaking in more difficult activities, there are a great number of players that can’t even manage to make a public event heroic that will be using the tool. But as long as it’s optional, I don’t care if it’s added to the game. It won’t affect my game play. I would go a step further and say make all current matchmaking activities optional. Imagine a base strike without blueberries where you could do bounties without stepping on each other’s feet.

I think everything in the game should have matchmaking.

I wonder if some, including people at Bungie, are afraid of losing their elitist cachet. If matchmaking is enabled and we find out that these areas are totally playable by matchmade teams, what's left of endgame? We'll be left with The Emperor's Clothes as the next armour set.

While I normally don't agree with "for your own good tactics" I do agree with this one. Imagine being in the shoes of a player who hasn't done a raid before. They go into a match made raid and there's no communication. None else knows how to do it and they're just constantly dying. None is there to tell them that's not how its meant to be. They'll just never raid again. The same can be said of Master Strikes and dungeons. Going in with people with no mods, bad builds, and no idea how to play it. They'll never want to try it again. I will say they could probably make Legend strikes match made.

They won't, unfortunately. I think the reason is because people would complain that content is too easy if 3-6 randomly matched players can clear "endgame" content. Lots of people have fragile ego's and their sense of pride and accomplishment will be diminished. Bungie would also take criticism from it because, like I said, content would be considered not challenging enough. With that being said though, I am in full agreement that every activity should have optional matchmaking. Shouldn't have to go outside of the game to look for people to play with unless it's your choice. And not everyone has friends that still play Destiny 2 anymore.
