If light.gg is accurate, then I have to ask, why bother sunsetting Redrix if you intended to put the perk that made it a pinnacle weapon, Desperado, on a weapon like Messenger? If I remember correctly, the reasons behind sunsetting were to reduce the loot pool, help prevent "power creep", switch up the meta a little so perk combinations like Rampage/ Outlaw wouldn't be as "necessary", and would allow you to "make weapons as strong as Recluse". Did I miss anything?
Moving on, if light.gg is accurate/ this was intentional, I have to ask "why"? Redrix 2.0, except this one can not only have perks other than Outlaw, but can have something better like Rapid Hit instead. I'll be glad if this was intentional, I might finally try getting into Trials, but if you're doing this with Desperado, there's no reason not to do the same for any of the other pinnacle perks like Archer's Gambit, or combine Meganeura/ Dragonfly and put on Chain Reaction.
But it just raises the question of why pinnacle weapons were sunsetted if you intended to add their perks into the pool and make upgraded versions of the weapons? God forbid we see Reversal of Fortune on another sniper, or Magnificent Howl on a long range hand cannon (especially 120s with everyone complaining about them), or Micromissile on another GL, the forums will be filled with more people complaining about OP weapons and how "exclusive" they are.
Edit: If this is accurate, then this is proof that pinnacle weapons had nothing to do with sunsetting.

4 RepliesThere were several individual reasons weapons got sunset. MT broke many play lists. Redrix wasn't the problem soooo
-
They want people to play trials as that Playlist is on life support. They should have never brought it back since its clearly half baked.....
-
it had nothing to do with power creep. "Sunsetting" is only done so we can have content for next year.
-
Stop assuming Bungie is truthful.
-
This was a great write up and analysis 👍 and I agree with the points you made

Edited by Smallershrub: 2/13/2021 8:31:50 PMThey just want to make the meta of the game a rotating wheel. Some stuff goes away for a while but they’ll reintroduce it and buff up other stuff.

2 RepliesTo be fair.... before sunsetting does anyone remember the last time you were killed by a redrix? If so i stand corrected
-
4 RepliesEdited by Seraph: 2/13/2021 4:11:51 PMI think you are missing the obvious. Before sunsetting, a player would earn a pinnacle weapon, and then keep using that weapon forever ( thanks to infusion ), in every single piece of content. Which made the chase for new loot redundant, because most of the new loot wasn’t as good as said ‘pinnacle’ weapon. Now, with the introduction of sunsetting, the brand new pinnacle weapon will only be viable for a limited period of time. Most weapons are only viable for 12 months. Trials Adept weapons are only viable for 3 months ( as stated in the TWAB from 10/22/2020 ) before they are sunset. I don’t remember Bungie stating whether the ‘new’ version of ‘The Messenger’ was an Adelt weapon or not, so I’m not really sure how long it will be apart of the meta, but it does have an expiration date on its viability.
-
The point of sunsetting was to force people to re do what they did before so that Bungie did not have to make new loot. It is why strikes are recycled, d1 guns are back, wny there was such minimal original loot last season. I can't speak for this season cause i haven't had an interest in playing Destiny as primarily a pvp player. But Bungie clearly can't do even what it did under Activision. Maybe it lacks the resources but that's why we had sunsetting.
-
So they can get players to grind for the same weapons. That was the purpose of sunsetting all along. To have a revolving grind and loot pool with NO work on their end. We are talking about a developer who just told us that bringing back the cosmodrome was too much work.
-
3 RepliesSo they can reintroduce the pinnacles as Trials weapons in hopes that it will force ppl into that dead mode. I had a feeling Bungie would pull this garbage.

Edited by anansispider: 2/13/2021 1:19:43 PMPower creep happens every year regardless of weapon power. Well of Radiance was power creep. Stasis IS power creep. The hypocrisy of Sunsetting is hilarious.
-
I never bought into the reasoning that sunsetting had to do with pinnacle weapons. If it did, it was a terrible solution. They could have just sunset the pinnacles and been done with it, right? No, sunsetting was a limp smoke screen for turning the game into a F2P shadow of its former self. Doing less with less...

3 RepliesWhere is Kelly’s excuse?
-
6 RepliesSo far sunsetting seems to have been more about getting rid of Activision made content than anything else.
-
3 RepliesI said since the beginning that sunsetting was about freeing up their outdated servers and the lack of people working on Destiny due to their Chinese game taking priority.

3 RepliesWe get a new energy Mountaintop, and grenades that explode in the vicinity of enemy players, Breechloadin blooptubes are gonna be part of the meta again so why was Mountaintop sunset? 'Powercreep'

Edited by iZnth: 2/13/2021 11:48:26 AMIt's accurate. And you are entirely correct. For all the arguments of "we can't have pinnacles because [insert reason here]", reintroducing weapons with the exact same perks that were removed merely proves it was all horseshit all along. Out of all the things that Bungie have done, sunsetting is the most asinine. (edit: the power creep argument is also, quite demonstrably, balls for PvE - the claim that there needs to be balance went out with the introduction of Stasis, the new Titan exotic that deals more damage than Celestial Nighthawk and a rocket launcher perk that poops on all that which came before)

20 RepliesYour post would at least have merit if Desperado was anywhere near as powerful as Recluse or Mountaintop, both of which were so good they eliminated any reason to use anything else. They were the "pinnacle weapons are OP" reason for sunsetting. Fact of that matter is no matter what Bungie did, no weapons could compare to those, especially as a combo, without it being game breakingly powerful. But since Desperado isn't comparable to those weapons in terms of power, there's nothing to see here. Just another apples-to-oranges comparison with zero logic. On a side note, sunsetting is being done terribly. But at least we got more loot this season than last. Hopefully it is a pattern that continues and improves.

9 RepliesOnce again, on behalf of all the Homies here who were against the sunsetting BS, we would like to say. . . "WE TOLD YOU SO!"

The new grenade launcher is pretty much mountaintop 2.0

2 RepliesWhats done is done. I have no plans to even try for the pulse. I’m not going to step into trials. If I’m pretty much removed from pvp due to being unable to compete anymore, so be it. Trials is not worth getting death threats over.

I’ve said it before. Sunsetting was pointless in the sake of power creep. Before this, what power creep was there? What was the difference between Day 1 and Year 2 players? There was next to no difference in actual power just like now. They just want to control the meta. By forcing players to use flavors of the month, they can balance the game much easier but that also harms diversity among weapon types. So, they have A HC season, follow it up with a Scout Rifle season, and ect. Think Blizzard’s WoW balancing act. On top of this, they can control what content you play and feel justified in removing things they don’t want to continue to lessen workloads so they can put a bulk of their teams on other IPs. Another reason being they want to keep end-game populated, so they basically cut all other content and make it pointless to do for the player. In short, they want you playing what they want you to play because if players had choice, Nightfalls and Strikes would have much longer MM times.

18 RepliesSunsetting happened so people would change up their weapons...and not use the same weapon for years. Like midnight coup.. And they also said..with sunsetting...we can add temporary powerfull guns to the lootpool more often.

Give us every powerful gun so we can one shot or have the fast ttk lmao. Nah forreal tho i love the unique guns more for pve. I miss mountaintop or the recluse. Loaded question was a beast. I feel like finally we are getting weapons that are strong and dope. They need to retire outlaw/ kill clip or rampage. That stuff is boring now lol. This new gl is awesome. So fun to use. Thats the exciting stuff. They should of made all the old pinnacle exotics if they were that powerful. Wish i could use some of them. Hopefully we will have many options like them in the future.

5 RepliesWasn't pointless. It's just that you didn't understand the point. Sunset wasn't intended to "reduce the loot pool, help prevent "power creep", switch up the meta a little so perk combinations like Rampage/ Outlaw wouldn't be as "necessary", and would allow you to "make weapons as strong as Recluse". That was the excuse. The intention behind sunsetting was to get rid of players' stuff only to make them regrind them. That way, play time would be increased while eliminating the need to create "new things" for people to grind. Proof of that is the fact that sunset also got rid of armor.
