Seeing as how Y4 dlc will most likely have us dealing with the darkness and pyramid ships; anyone else feel like this is out of order and we should be fighting savathun as well as wrapping up the dreaming city/scarlett keep story arcs?
To me, I feel like the darkness/pyramid ships should be the final enemy to wrap up the whole story of Destiny once all the other story arcs have been concluded.
Part of me thinks the only reason bungie is doing the pyramid ships next, is to try and boost its player base especially given the state of D2. Or possibly Bungie is just done with destiny and want to wrap up the game so they can move on to their new IP.

Seeing as how Y4 dlc will most likely have us dealing with the darkness and pyramid ships; anyone else feel like this is out of order and we should be fighting savathun as well as wrapping up the dreaming city/scarlett keep story arcs?
No. 1. The Hive are just one minion of the Darkness. Just the most aggressive because their worms are lilterally driving them to kill. But the Worms and "The Veil" are other minions. 2. Its in keeping with the picture of Savathun created by the Books of Sorrow and in-game storytelling. Oryx was the demon-lord, who was the unquestioning devotee of Sword Logic and violent confrontation. Savathun is the Machiavellian operator. The person who gains power from the shadows by guile, treachery, alliances, and using puppets to do her bidding. She operates like a Crime Lord rather than a Conquerer. She the kind of leader that doesn't go to war until she's already set up the situation so that victory is inevitable. So having her make her move before something has happened to weaken us, or dramatically tip the power balance in her favor would be out of HER character. But an invasion by another force might just be the opening she's looking for. I disagree about the Pyramids being the conclusion of the story. To me the conclusion is a final confronation between Light and Dark itself with Humanity and Guardians in the Middle. Destiny's lore has always bore (for me) a resemblance to the 1990s sci-fi TV series "Babylon 5".
It created a galaxy where humanity and other "Younger races" were trapped in ideological conflict between two "elder" races that were millions of years more technologically and biologically advanced (in this fictional universe, life eventually evolves past the need for physical form and becomes sentient energy). The problem is what looks like a simple fight between Good (The Vorlons) and Evil (The Shadows) is actually far more complicated than that. Both sides manipulate the less advanced being, while avoiding direct confrontation with each other. Each seeking to increase their own influence while undermining the others. The veil is lifted when the main hero knowingly walks into a trap laid for him on the Shadow homeworld although he knows its a suicide run (his former Vorlon mentor had forseen his death there) he takes the opportunity to strike a cripping blow in the form of a ship full of nukes at the Shadow seat of power. He hears a telepathic voice in his head as he jumps into a pit right before the nukes go off. The explosion leaves the Shadows severely weakend and in confusion. So the Vorlons take advantage of the opportunity...remove the veil of "Goodness" they had been wearing...and start going around the galaxy destroying Shadow bases and slaughtering any younger races that were aligned (or enslaved) by the Shadows. Under the guise of "cutting out the infection". When the Shadows recover their wits, they start doing the same thing to Vorlon facilities and races aligned with the Vorlons. So you have to Bull Elephants stamping around the galaxy crushing everything in their path. Long story short. The conflict between Vorlons and Shadows wasn't good vs evil. IT WAS ORDER VS CHAOS. The Vorlons believed in growth and advancement through the imposition of rigid order.....while the Shadows believed in evolution through violence, conflict and "creative destruction". The reality was both are dead-ends. The Vorlons eventually became a fossilized society that was incapble of growth or change....or even sense if individual identity or desire. Ask a Vorlon who He is...he can answer. Ask him what he wants...and you'll either get silence....or rage. OTOH, The Shadows became a utterly miltarized society whose only works were things of death and destruction. They became incapable of creating anything of any lasting value. Ask a Shadow what he wants he can tell you. There abiding sense of being around the Shadows was one of Fear and deep Sadness. As a Shadow who he is....and you'll get nothing but silence.
The Destiny lore hints----through the words of the Winnower----of a similar ideological conflict between two Fundamental Forces that are out of balance. One that needs to be resolved by bringing them into balance. Instead of one side winning outright. The Awoken Queen seems to sense this...but her views are so tainted at the moment by a contempt for the Traveler and the Light that it makes her larger message about balance harder to hear and to accept.

Edited by Bigfoots Son: 6/2/2020 5:06:10 AMAs a huge fan of lore pertaining to Savathûn... I'm not disappointed at all. Why? Because for her to allow herself to become embroiled in a conflict with the Vanguard at this point in time would be against her character. She would NEVER risk meeting us in open war. She isn't as physically strong as her sisters. Her strength lies in her cunning: manipulation and sneak tactics. It's how she's consistently operated in the lore. Does that mean I don't think we will ever face her? No. We will face her when the darkness is defeated. Why do I think this? Twofold: 1. She is actively looking for a way out of servitude to the Darkness: seeking ways to obtain power without them. It is in her direct interest to let the Guardians and Darkness duke it out. Whoever wins will be somewhat diminished, and the loser is a thorn in her side, removed. 2. Once the victor emerges, still regaining their forces from the war, she will sieze the opportunity to undermine their ranks, and finally, attack them whilst they are at their weakest. For these reasons, I think she will be the final 'big bad' of the franchise - and we will face Xivu Arath before her.

What if Savathun IS the Darkness... ?

Savathun is said to be the smartest, most cunning known warrior in the universe. Why the crap would she attack us when we are on the brink of war? Why not wait to see the outcome of the battle and decide then?

1. No. 2. Just because the Pyramids are here doesn’t mean we get to fight them NOW. Bungie has at least a few more years of content planned out for D2. So it’s silly to think we’re fighting them on any massive scale NOW. 3. That being said, we have time to finish every other story arc while the Pyramids are here.

Edited by Phantom: 6/3/2020 7:40:39 AMWell last time we heard of savathun she was working behind the scenes in the dreaming city with riven, and she succeeded with that plan and than went back into hiding. So based on how she operates she would remain hidden when the invasion happens and watch and learn about the pyramids tactics and so forth. which in the long run make her more dangerous, she's patient and will study her enemies until she has you figured out so she seems a bit more smart than the pyramids. As the pyramids are using a sort of intimidation tactic on us, they speak to us gloating about themselves, than they take their time getting here letting us see how big their forces are. Im sure they have some tricks up their sleeves but savathun seems to know that knowledge can be the deadliest weapon. So i wouldnt underestimate her.

I know a certain Mind is.

Frankly I wouldn't be surprised if there was Vex on those ships. They were basically the Winnower's champions in previous life games so what better way to challenge the Traveler's "champions" than to make us fight theirs? Now, I hope that's not the case, as the Vex should be their own fight in of themselves, and the idea of para-causality makes it likely that Savathun will attack us either while this goes on or in the aftermath.

Not really. Even if we manage to take down the Pyramid Fleet, there’s no way that kills the Darkness. Believe me, there’s still plenty of time in this game. Plenty to do.
-
Savathun will probably make it to the Distributary and become far worse than the Pyramids.
-
Yes and no. I’m bored of the hive, don’t really want any more of them for a while. But to suddenly have the Darkness right at our doorstep and to have so many other things unresolved - from the DC to... well, I’m tired of listing all the open threads. But it just seems like resolving one thing (almighty) brings in a ton more question marks (Darkness). I’m constantly being told there’s a story here and it’s going season over season. But I’m not really seeing i... and I’m definitely not feeling it.

Nah; I’m actually kind done with the Hive portion of the Lore. I’m ready to actually see something new.

You assume

2 RepliesJust because the overall focus of the Expansion will be on the Darkness, doesn't mean Savathuun won't be the Raid boss. Look at Shadowkeep, 90% about Hive and Taken - yet has a Vex Raid because that season was vexxy.
-
5 RepliesNot really. I have had my fill of Hive and Taken. The Darkness will hopefully be something new...although I suspect they are just going to be a bunch of reskins.
-
3 RepliesMaybe those pyramids arent what everyone thinks they are.
-
The darkness has been mentioned since the beginning of d1, why is it just now coming around now?
-
3 RepliesMaybe savathun is the darkness.
-
2 RepliesI think we'll be facing scouting parties. Also, I'm skeptical about us getting a new enemy race to begin with.
-
2 RepliesWe are going to face the Darkness twice. It’s in the Travelers Vision cutscene. I can’t believe you people don’t pay attention to stuff like this. We’ve had the literal roadmap for the storyline ever since base D2.
-
Lore wise? Little bit. Gameplay wise? No. We’ve had so much hive.
-
Well, savathun is against the darkness lore wise, so theres a chance that a mutual allegiance may be made... Just dont turn your back away from savathun, cause when the darkcrisis i reaches the end, she may strike against us...
-
Savathun has been teased quite a lot since D2Y1, but especially since Forsaken, the same DLC that teased the Pyramids ships quite a lot, so i suppose both may be linked. Savathun may be part of the invasion or use the invasion as a distraction.
