Congratulations geniuses.
You’ve just destroyed the point of investing time to curate and optimize weapons and armor.
You’ve doubled down on obtuse communication and obstinance.
You’ve also burdened yourselves with the challenge of skinning the same archetypes over and over when you could have just opened the historical vault and let people chase god rolls.
Best wishes.
Edit:
This is all BS of the highest order. Bungie has been making weapons and armor since TTK without a single complaint about how they’re hamstrung by “power creep.” Power creep in this game is pure fiction. It’s an argument cut from whole cloth.
Bungie telling you that power creep is why infusion can’t continue - all while they build power creep into the game with the seasonal artifact. A true masterclass in customer distraction.
Look at this pile of a game. Bungie has three mechanics which boost player damage bonuses. You earn XP during the base story progression to earn your abilities. Then you earn “power levels” which aren’t connected to player experience - they’re driven artificially by your weapon and armor power scores. Then we have the Artifact, which can be leveled infinitely if you, the players, are willing to crap in a bucket and eat nothing but hot pockets to get there.
Think about it. How many of you feel OP when a new DLC drops? How many of you melt bosses, majors, or champions day 1? None of you. Even with your favorite gear. Not one of you kick ass at launch. Not with Master of Arms. Not with Magnificent Howl. Not with Onslaught. Not with 150 HCs. Not with 600 autos. Name your perk. Name your gun. Name your archetype. Doesn’t matter - until you reach the power cap - it doesn’t matter in PvE. And in PvP? When something is broken - it is selectively nerfed.
Why? BECAUSE POWER CREEP DOES NOT EXIST. At least not until the seasonal artifact is done juicing you up.
If Bungie cares about power creep - lets’s start with removing pointless hamster wheel grinding and the bloated bonuses that come from the Seasonal Artifact. And then let’s talk about power creep.
Until then, I’m out. Peace.

Edited by Ghodzilla: 5/16/2020 1:57:44 AMWell, now there is no reason to masterwork every piece of gear again or bust my ass getting armor with perfect stats for my play style that took months or getting god rolls on my weapons that took a considerable effort. It sure sounds like there is basically no reason to play anymore. Oh, wait; I went from playing every single day to one day a week in the atrocious Season of the Worthless. 5000 hours of play time in Destiny for what? Being spit on and disrespected by Luke Smith and his clown posse? No -blam!-ing thanks.

27 RepliesBest way to combat power creep? Dont increase our power level anymore. I know, right? Mind blown We didn't need to go over 400 in D1 At 750, that Vandal sniper was also 750. Oh, you are 1010 now? well so is that vandal over there. No point

Overall, I do not see year 4 going well for Destiny 2 and Bungie at all. They are getting MAJOR backlash about this. Currently, instead of gear retiring, it still remains useful for everything. Bungie just gives players incentive to acquire new gear because they introduce new/better gear with new perks and/or new combinations of perks. This system works just fine. With sunsetting, the retired gear will only be useful in non-endgame activities (low-level strikes, basic destination activities like patrols, some Crucible playlists, etc.). I love this game and I have been here since year 1 of Destiny 1, but this might just kill it for me. To describe where the game is going currently, let me paint a picture: Destiny is Cayde-6, on the ground, and Bungie is Uldren about to pull the trigger. By introducing sunsetting, Bungie has basically said to players, “the last 3 years of your time, dedication, hard work, and patience means nothing to us, so it must mean nothing to you as well”. Bungie only has a few months to decide how much money they are going to have in their pockets.

Edited by TheLastSeabass: 5/15/2020 6:49:15 PM💯 Sunsetting and Seasons are Bungie’s business model to keep us grinding the same content. Chase power all over again Chase gear all over again It wouldn’t be as bad if they actually designed new pvp maps, strikes and gambit maps. A vendor refresh once a year does not cut it This game has no soul, no magic and no sense of adventure compared to D1 because design is geared too much towards monetization over player experience.

11 RepliesIt’s like I didn’t realise I needed to focus on other games until now. These changes will definitely upset the player base and encourage players to seek games they find more rewarding I have no interest in threats or departure posts, but I believe a large number of people are watching these changes closely, as current content being that of a brain damaged work experience kid, the next big move will surely win or lose a lot of players who are on the fence I heart Destiny as a franchise and its potential, but I think I’m in love with a concept as opposed to the actuality of what loads on my console at times.

Agreed. I took a year off from this game. Came back and grinded out armor and weapons ... now this. I’m going to have to “sunset” bungie

5 RepliesI'm very irritated by people acting as if this is the only solution to 'power creep'. Destiny does not exist in a vacuum, I play half a dozen other Looter Shooters and not once have any of my drops been 'sunsetted'. Warframe - I can log in and pick up my old Soma Prime if I want to, which was introduced six years ago, and have it be just as effective as the moment I built it. Has it been balanced since then? Yes, which is what sensible devs do, balance their content. Warframe doesn't lower the damage values of its older weapons to discourage you from using them. Borderlands 2 - I can drop in and play some games with the same loadout I had in 2012 and have a great time, my weapons were never retroactively made obsolete, even with all of the updates and expansions. The Division 2 - I can log in right now and my P416 is going to shred enemies more than a year after I got my perfect roll. Remnant - Oh look, my Particle Accelerator works just the same as it did 9 months ago, weird. Anthem - The biggest mess of a game I've ever seen, I wholly regret playing it, but even they didn't make people's favorite weapons obsolete. Sunsetting is not a good solution, and Destiny is not the only Looter Shooter out there that has dealt with such problems.

1 ReplyPower creep is the lamest boogyman excuse they've come up with over the past year
-
17 RepliesWhat makes me more mad is armor being phased out too. Like the -blam!- ITS ARMOR.
-
3 RepliesIt's them creating a problem so they can fix it later. It's them making you rent weapons you've already paid for. It's ridiculous.
-
36 RepliesNobody is fooled. Bungie is lazy and/or out of ideas. All they can come up with is a tedious hamster wheel to piss off their customers.
-
8 RepliesUr 971. U don't play endgame. And u have on a revoker. Let's go with the story that u play PvP. Revoker will get sunset or it'll get nerfed. Decide. Right now.
-
Time to shard the game. It’s worth 4 shards and a blue level shader

Edited by JP_Royal: 5/16/2020 3:34:36 PMI’m out too brotha, but did you expect bungie to really care ab us and what we think. I lost hope for that a long time ago

2 RepliesEdited by JazzyPaladin477: 5/15/2020 1:28:30 PMBungie unfortunate you will not be able to infuse my dollars into your bank accounts past season 11 as they were earned in 2016. They will have to be re-earned through interesting loot design and great story writing activities in 2021. Until then I remain a fan but not a customer. You are free to enjoy the fruits of my previously earned dollars in free to play legacy activities.

Edited by Tru-Zrue: 5/16/2020 8:24:43 PMSunset your business? Oh good So you'll return later.

Bye. Loot games are grindy.

1 ReplyGood of you to note the "power creep" lie that's used as crutch for fools.
-
8 RepliesNot really sure how Bungie thinks power creep is an issue when enemies from every activity scale to your level. With minor exception to end game. Hell, I don't feel anymore powerful than I I have from previous expansions
-
Power creep doesn't exist. Ok Bye falicia 🙋♂️
-
It was coming, we knew it, in destiny this happens in a 1-2 yr cycle since d1... D1: end of yr1, change of light power, all weapons redundant. D1: end of yr3, tower destroyed going into D2, all weapons cancelled. D2: end of yr1, random rolls cancelled usage of all yr1 weapons. D2: end of yr3, weapon lifespan implemented, all weapons, will have a 12 month lifespan. Personally speaking I don't see a real problem here, just grab loot, use it, move on when its lifespan ends.

I don't think you get what power creep means
-
I couldn't have said it better. It is a shame. Everything everyone has ever invested hundreds and thousands of hours in, will just be gone, worthless.. You'll need to shit in a bucket and eat nothing but hot pockets now each damn season if you wan't to get those new weapons that can push you to the power cap.. Even more grind, just so the next season you can throw everything away again and start all over.. ???????????????????????? How is that supposed to keep me playing, to motivate me, knowing that all the hundreds of hours invested will be for nothing in a season or two, because I need new shit again, new grinding to be at the power cap... Bungie do You realize that people have real lifes too? This is seriously getting ridiculous.. I won't be buying any more DLC's or any other stuff from Bungie. I incentivize You to do the same, until those bollocks Ideas stop for once and for all. Peace out.

1 ReplyEdited by PortScientist7: 5/16/2020 1:12:36 AMHere's a better idea, take a page from Warframe. Vault the guns (Except Pinnacle) and make them obtainable in an activity that rotates them out weekly (Black Armory). The Black Armory needs to be more useful, why not vault all the Season Weapons from 1-8 that are 2.0 enabled. Then each week a set of 6 to 8 weapons are available to obtain and be farmed like the normal Black Armory weapons, which would still stay in there as usual. They already do this anything with those blue frame schematics, why not just pick the weapon you want like the main Forge weapons. As the seasons go by vault the seasonal weapons into the forges and selectively place past weapons back into the loot pool in the world drops. But don't do any of the power limiting on any gear or weapons still. If a player spent hours farming for a roll he/she likes it shouldn't become redundant after a year, it should be forever. There are a ton of weapons you can return from D1 (Hint) and I believe not too many people would complain. I will complain however if I lose my Perfect Paradox, also all weapons and gear from the Year 2 raids and Year 3 raid should not be affected at all. Bungie there is a better way, but you are not looking or maybe even trying. Lastly, I have been around since D1 Beta and I can say this with absolute certainty that after you stopped the power capping on gear in D1 it was way better. Especially after I got back weapons like my Shadow Price auto. So if you go ahead with your plans don't mess with all year 2&3 raid weapons/gear, Story driven weapons (e.g. Perfect Paradox and Felwinter's Lie), and the Pinnacle Weapons which took some of us until this pass season or two to complete them all. Except Not Forgotten, still don't have that yet.

8 RepliesOof. All the misguided blind hate. Hilarious how you dont think power creep exists, only to mention inadvertently the literal reason why this needs to happen in literally everyone and their mother using the same 5 weapons... funny stuff.
