Hello,
I’ve played Trials since the first day it was released in House of Wolves. (Did 3 flawless cards in a row on Xbox that day.) And I was able to go flawless on the first day of it’s return. I’ve put in well over a day’s worth of time into this mode the past month, and here is my thoughts on how it could be fixed to make it more rewarding for both top tier players and low skilled alike.
First, tokens should be replaced by repeatable bounties that drop random trials items. Make it so that these bounties can be completed even without winning, albeit at a slower rate. For example, playing 10 matches will complete a bounty, but winning will count as 2. And instead of bounties that force people to use specific weapons (which may not be the meta for that map), generalize it and make it kills with primary weapons, where teammates kills only count for either half or a third of your own. This system would reward better play, while still making drops obtainable for everyone which would keep the player pool bigger.
Second, adept items need to be added to the flawless chest. I am thankful that ascendant shards are a guaranteed drop from your first flawless, but it takes longer to obtain these from Trials than from Nightfall Ordeal runs, and the huge draw of the flawless chest in Destiny 1 was the adept weapons. However, with the fact that armor pieces also come into the flawless rotation, I have an idea for that as well. For the weapons, celerity should be added as a bonus intrinsic perk on flawless weapons, while still maintaining the RNG nature of the rest of the perk pool. And for the armor there should an intrinsic adept perk that functions similarly to celerity where if you are the last guardian alive, you gain +5 to mobility, resilience and recovery. That way, if you get 4 pieces of the adept set you would get 2 full tiers on each of those stats when you are the last alive. I believe this would be enough of a balance to not break the game, while still making them feel like a rewarding armor set to obtain.
And lastly, making a prioritized queue for characters that have already achieved a flawless run that week. I believe that the connection based matchmaking which merges into card based is statistically the best option for Trials and should remain. However, if you have gone flawless on a character, if you continue to run cards on it you should be prioritized to play against other people who have gone flawless. This will give low-mid tier players a better chance at achieving flawless runs. This would also help reduce the amount of cheaters that non-flawless players would match against, as they would most likely have gone flawless already and be put into the prioritized queue. While this isn’t the solution to eradicate cheating and I don’t wish queuing against cheaters on anyone, at least it would impact the people who haven’t obtained flawless rewards less.
The goal is to save and increase the population of players in Trials by improving the gameplay and reward loop for everyone. Keeping low to mid tier PvP players interested in this mode is required to keep it alive. I love Trials of Osiris and I hope that this constructive feedback can be seen and used by Bungie.
Sincerely,
PeterTitan

they can't even fix the friends black emblem problem trials should've had new gear, but allowed post game drops of the old stuff for those people who will never make flawless

3 RepliesI had a similar conversation the other day and I had almost the same ideas as you. The armor solution is very good actually. But let me add one thing: Each week there is a specific weapon that can drop from the flawless chess that is a curated roll with specific perk combinations that you can't find usually in the perk pool. For example, Eye of Sol with quickdraw and snapshot, Astral horizon with full auto and vorpal, Summoner also with vorpal, etc, etc. This would make the flawless chest even more desirable because you could get these perks that could be somewhat busted and make these some of the best weapons for pvp, but that actually makes sense because you need to consistently go flawless on the end game pvp activity.

Good ideas. Unfortunately bungie developers do t have this sort of common sense or forethought

7 RepliesI believe that they’re probably should be better rewards. There should be adept weapons for flawless and people should get more incentive to play. But even then, I still wouldn’t. I know for a fact there is absolutely no place in trials for someone like me. I’m not even good enough to get not forgotten. My stats are worthless. I already feel so much guilt from the many games of comp I lost. And I can’t tell how how often I get messages on Xbox from either the enemy team or even my own telling me I’m bad. There’s no place for someone like me in trials, and I know better then to ever give it a chance.
