A buddy and I were discussing the meta and current changes while backing up our theory's with little quotes from the devs or a TWAB. So far we have been dead accurate(thanks discord logs for making us seem like destiny 2 psychics) in discussing/reasoning the direction of the game for along time now(HHSN was our last prophetic discussion).
Ok now that the forward is over. We got on the topic of HC's. Their is alot of interesting data that supports a change will be coming for them.
It then occurred to us that a real core problem stemmed from the fact that ALL HCs are caped at 28 meters 30 with range finder.
Why is this a problem and how does it make Spare Rations stronger I am sure you are wondering then.
The current state of HCs is a blanket range cap, a 90 range 110 HC with has the SAME EXACT RANGE as a spare rations with 55 range.
What this does is pigeon hole HC's to an extreme extent.
As an excellent example Austringer. This HC has higher range stat before perks then spare rations, so the logic of a player would be along the lines of "my 90 range Austringer should win duels vs Spare rations at Y range because their drop off will be more severe".
This makes sense and gives credence to the idea that you have options you only need to play to that guns strengths.
However because HC's had a blanket range cap it is irrelevant.
Their is literally no reason right now to run any HC then Spare Rations because it has the same effective range as every other HC after X range stat.
Bungies choice here was clearly a panic button because any fool could tell you if you force the same change on every thing it will clearly benefit some more then others and thats just real world every day logic.
A great and comical example "hey guys we are changing toilets to support one sex, but its ok you are both human so it will work out"
Edit: I know its long winded but thank you to the people that made it to the bottom.

3 RepliesIt was necessary to make scout rifles viable. Hand cannons are not a weapon that exists in reality. So---ever since the Destiny 1 beta----SR and HC have fought a battle for dominance, and because of PVP, HC usually win. So in order to create room for SRs in the sandbox and relevance in the meta, you have to limit the range of HC. Whch makes them act like more reallistic hand guns. At the end of the day, the game is still struggling with BAD design decisions that were baked into the game during vanilla D2's design. When D2 launched, the PVE play spaces got BIGGER....while the PVP maps (with the emphasis on dual primaries, map control play, and 4v4 format for all PVP) the Crucible maps got SMALLER. So Bungie has been trying to manage this disconnect between the range a weapon has to have to be relevant in PVE, and the one that it needs to play nice with other weapons in PVP. Getting rid of all those Y1 and Y2 Crucible maps will help..but that will take time.

For some archetypes, like the 110s, their range cap should be bumped out a bit. Not sure where it should drop off since I don't test weapons but maybe 45 meters? 140s could be 38 ish?

6 RepliesThe people who gravitate towards Spare Rations/ Mindbenders want everything else nerfed so there is nothing left to counter it. We can only wait and see what Bungie does with the sandbox but I hope Erentil is still usable next season as it as brought me so much joy shutting down Mind-Rations over and over again.
