Power level in this game isn't like leveling up in other rpg games, it's just an activity gate, once you reach the desired number to get into an activity, every extra bit won't do anything.

  • Destiny damage scaling works in a weird way. Every activity has an inherent "difficulty level" decided by Bungie. This means that, when you are at equal levels to a patrol, you are at no severe risk of dying, but when you are at equal levels to a Nightfall, Raid, or Dungeon, you take a lot of damage and everything is much more lethal. The game does this to make endgame content more challenging to justify the rewards and not let everything in the game be a breeze. However, Destiny also has "damage scaling". If you are at 900 against a 900 level activity, you are at the "recommended" level to fight it, I.E. the difficulty that Bungie says is perfect to make it a difficult, but doable fight. If you dip under, things get harder. However, as I understand, having an overall light level higher than the recommended for the activity does not let you do more damage. Instead, your weapons determine the bulk of your damage. If you are at the level of an activity, your weapons will do more damage until they are 20 light levels above the activity. Meaning, if you are at 900 for this 900 activity and you have a 920 Fighting Lion and a 950 Fighting Lion, they will do the same damage. A 910 Fighting Lion, however, will do less than either of them. This, I believe, is the same for armor and damage taken. At up to 20 light levels above an activity based on your overall armor light level (weapons not included), you will continue to see less and less damage taken. For our 900 activity, you will take less damage all the way from 801 (when you can actually damage enemies) all the way to 920, where your resistance maxes out. So even at a hypothetical 10,000 light level, you'd be just as threatening to a 900 activity as a 920 player. Finally, all activities scale at different rates. At 20 levels above a patrol, you smash everything to pieces and laugh in the face of death. At 20 levels above a Dungeon, however, you are at your most powerful, but still facing enemies that pose a serious threat. This way, you don't level to 980 and instakill anything far below your power. It keeps activities competitive and helps reduce power creep. TL;DR: Weapons do more damage until 20 light levels above an opponent, and armor takes less damage from opponents until 20 light levels above. More difficult activities narrow the gap between you and your enemies. Delta scaling is confusing. My fingers are sore

    • The game only gets so easy. You have the biggest advantage, so you just need to strategize better.

Haha. Try doing it solo. And yes. I have and completed it “never again”. To help. Play slow. Use snipers for most of it. And seriously. Play slow.

      • I don't remember the power level if the shattered throne but power level is capped at +100, so if an activity is 750 and you are 950, you deal damage as an 850.
