Destiny 2

Discuss all things Destiny 2.

The things that actually killed Destiny.

In no particular order. 1. Too much too fast. It's not special, unique, or meaningful when a new exotic drops every 4 days and each exotic has to be powerful enough for people to care about. Which leads me to... 2. Power creep. No balance. Every slot (primary, secondary, heavy) are rife with one hit kill weapons that everybody uses now. Not just PvP but PvE too. Why can I kill a raid boss in 10 seconds with a sword? D1 had gun fights and weapons that hurt that much were rare. Now they fall from the sky like rain. Players are spoiled rotten with the options they have. 3. No breaks between events. Everything is go go go. Burn out is a real thing and only the top maybe 0.5% of people can play this game often enough to get everything. 4. Because everything is go go go, development is focused on giving players something to do and not taking the time to create meaningful things to do. I personally blame streamers for this because they're all so damn boring that Bungie has to be the entertainment for their streams. Bungie, you can't fix bad personalities by putting out constant (and therefore weak) content for them to play. Having 2 good DLCs per year was better than having 5 shitty, rushed, streamer friendly DLCs per year. There were flashes of old Bungie brilliance with stuff like the dreaming city and all its hidden fun stuff, but it feels like most of the content didn't have the same level of care as that content did. 5. Lots of grind, no reward. Much like 1 and 2, you never quite feel like you're getting out of the game what you out into it. I spent 4 weeks getting izanagi...and now it's in my vault. I'm not mad it's in my vault. I'm mad that it took me 4 weeks to get. I have logged in, looked at all the slogs I have in my quest log, and went to do something else instead. 6. Frequently poor game design. Find someone who has never played destiny, sit them down, and tell them to play. See how long it takes to learn this game's convoluted menu and mission system. Tons of people saw their corridors of time quest just vanish with no in game explanation (why tf do I gotta save Saint 14 if he's right there in the tower?). Gotta get the basics right. 7. Speaking of things that never work, it took entirely too long to implement SBMM. Remember, the only people who hate SBMM were people who cheated (philosophically, not literally) the old system by stacking up 6 deep and riding with meta to pad their stats and now have to pay for it. Now, instead of 3 years of refinement, we're getting base level SBMM and by the time the refinement happens (assuming it does), the game will be dead. 8. Greedy micro transactions. You know how much an emote costs in Final Fantasy XIV? Like $3. But, emotes are also in short supply and you rarely earn them in game so it feels like a good investment long term. In D2, they cost way more than that and there are over 100 at least AND chances are someone got them for free in Y1 anyway. Makes ya feel like you're wasting money. Silver in general is way too expensive. If I'm buying something, I want to be proud of it. 9. Poorly organized micro transactions. Eververse is confusing and stupid. Tess is always blinking like an advertisement. The store is a giant mess and difficult to navigate. 10. Destiny 1 was vastly different than Destiny 2 and Destiny 2 year 3 is vastly different from the first 2 years. You can't change the dynamics of your game THAT much and expect more people to show up. Word of mouth is important. I bought D1 because my friends raved about it and ordered D2 because I loved D1. People don't rave about this game anymore. Just my thoughts. Maybe it's not too late to turn the ship around. Maybe it is. Oh well either way. I ahd fun while it lasted lol.

  •
1. Too much too fast. It's not special, unique, or meaningful when a new exotic drops every 4 days and each exotic has to be powerful enough for people to care about. Which leads me to...
What!? Too much content us what killed destiny? Tf are you even saying, when did we get new content every 4 days, like ever? The complete opposite is the issue, there isnt any content, no endgame and the content we get is shallow and lackluster as hell
Riven is the only raid boss you can kill in 10 seconds and cheese the encouter, everything else you have to run the mechanics, swords are also getting adjusted soon so even that will be nerfed, "players are spoiled rotten" by what? Strike bosses have immunity phases to slow even that down, good rolled weapons like spare rations require dozens of hours farming the most tedious of activities, raids have more mechanics then they did in d1, vendors havent been refreshed at all and you call us spoiled rotten? Do you have any idea what you're talking about???
3. No breaks between events. Everything is go go go. Burn out is a real thing and only the top maybe 0.5% of people can play this game often enough to get everything.
Again there was 4 new legendary weapons with season of undying and 8 with dawn so what exactly are you missing? There was vex offensive and sundial over a 3 month period each, what did you not have time to do???
There were flashes of old Bungie brilliance with stuff like the dreaming city and all its hidden fun stuff, but it feels like most of the content didn't have the same level of care as that content did.
The streamers have nothing to do with bungie laziness. Y2 annual pass cost just as much as the Y3 and provided 3× the content - that was good. Y3 has seen so far 1 new activity per season by comparison and they've both been pretty meh - undying should have had a zero hour type mission and a third thing and dawn should have dropped a new raid and 3rd activity. Streamers would have loved more content and higher quality as well, but it's cheaper and easier on bungie to do less while charging the same, I sent see how you can blame streamers for that.
This contradicts your earlier post - players are "spoiled rotten" yet grind hard for no reward? You also complained about no balanced weapons then say you dont use izanagi which is the current best dps gun in the game??? You're right about this, there is a ton of grind with meaningless rewards
I mean people learn, it's not very hard to navigate the menu after a few hours play, yes the content "going away" is trash.
Completely false, it is because of sbmm the games pvp has suffered. Let's look at the past of where sbmm has been in the game - late taken king - low base, vanilla 2 and curse of osiris - game was on its death bed, warmind and cbmm saved it. Now were once again at low population levels, face facts players out there want to be incentivized to get better, not be discouraged with sweatier matches the more they improve for no better rewards, it promotes stagnation and singularly benefits the very bottom tier, you arent entitled separate treatment because you cant compete evenly vs everyone under a global mm setting. It's on you, not the game to ensure you can play pvp and perform adequately. It needs to be dropped from a minimum of half the playlist modes before it's too late and we revert to coo numbers.
Oh please, you want to try to say destiny is dying because of expensive emotes? Nah, you want to say eververse is a problem with how it's the only vendor updated per dlc and how the gear from it should really be behind activites I'm right behind you, but the game isnt dying because emotes are overpriced.
9. Poorly organized micro transactions. Eververse is confusing and stupid. Tess is always blinking like an advertisement. The store is a giant mess and difficult to navigate.
Again d2 isnt dying cause people cant navigate the store menu. I dont think anyone says they're quitting because tess has a blinking marker...
D2 Y1 needed to be changed, it was horrible, double primaries, sbmm, 4vs4 pvp, long cooldowns, etc D2 Y2 was excellent and now in Y3 it's similar to that except sbmm is back unfortunately and the content we get is 1/3rd the size and even that is lackluster and boring.

    • f2p will eventually kill it for good quality-wise. But as long as it is f2p the forums will be full of rage and whine posts so the game will live and confuse new players. This cycle will end only when bungie will cut life support and move on. Maybe in 3-4 years.

        • Alot of these issues stem from a team with little to no knowledge of how to run the business side of a game.... when Activision left, Bungie don't seem to have brought in a decent enough Publishing team... therefore Business decisions are being made by "creative" departments, leading to the situation we have now.... We also have a creative director with no training, background or qualifications in the position... so it's not exactly complicated to see why there are so many struggles....

        • Bungie keeps adding new groups of players without retaining the old groups. It’s why Activision left and it’s why the game will keep dwindling until there’s nothing because giving away the game sort-of-for-free was a last ditch effort. Maybe if they go full F2P they can grab a few more poor souls. These last two seasons in the game have been a shell of itself and it’s clear now why Activision left. Bungie still has no direction and never really did. Luckily the content really isn’t that expensive so 🤷🏼‍♂️

                          • People have complained in the past that there is mother to do. I understand where you are coming from, but if Bungie want to have the evolving world idea, something needs to happen in terms of content spacing. Repetitiveness, I guess, but I play on the weekends and most players imo play at least every other day. So I can see the burnout argument on their part. Eververse, pretty much yep. It’s got problems.
But hey, your opinion is yours... or something like that.
• Some good point, except power creep. We should be able to take down Calus easy. The better work around? Add higher levels (like Master Nightmare hunts). And microtransactions...you were a bit repetitive. That's their main source of income. None of effect the game, so no harm there. However...they're going a bit overboard. We need more stuff we can earn.

It will age so poorly that near everyone will remember it as a joke. It'll be the ET of the 8th Gen. Except used copies of the games littered used game stores everywhere, all of days after launch.
