People datamine everything from unused audio to not used catalyst icons and just about anything else. I'm sure if the event is still in there, someone is going to eventually call them out on it. I trust Bungie about as far as I can throw Jupiter, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to find that pulling the node from the menu is all that they did between seasons.
