ICYMI 2 robbers hijacked a UPS van taking the driver hostage. Cops surrounded it on a very busy highway and opened fire killing all 3 in the van and someone in their car several yards away in the opposite direction.
The worst part is the cops defended it saying "well if the people gave up and were held accountable for their crimes we wouldn't have had to put all those people in danger." Really??? I'm usually respectful of police but that right there is a fùcking pig.
I think it also shows the danger of the militarization of law enforcement.
Edit: If anyone watched the videos some of the cops were hiding behind vehicles with people in them while shooting. They shot 200 rounds at the van.

I dunno. It does seem like they could have tailed the Van and attempted a stop/capture at a more opportune time, but its very easy to say that in retrospect, outside the heat of the moment.

Everyone wanted to try out their new Black Friday toys I guess 🙈

I forgot that cops are trained to handle hostage situations every single day

2 RepliesThe big problem here is that these cops weren’t militarized. No swat team, no special weapons, no special tactics, no assault vehicles to stop the UPS vehicle. No military tactical training. The idea that the police in our country shouldn’t be trained and equipped to deal with a situation like this because they failed to deal with it well when the weren’t properly trained and equipped is a confused one. It was a shit show, no question there. But the idea that we shouldn’t equip and train our cops to deal with military-like situations makes no sense.

5 RepliesOkay. Here’s a thought experiment. You have money. You use your money to open a business. You have a van that travels around delivering people’s goods. You have to compete with others who do the same thing, so your profit margin is incredibly low in order to keep up with the competition. You work 60+ hours a week and have three people in your staff. You earn $48,700 per year, before taxes. Your employees earn $24,000 to $36,000. All other earnings are put into the business for truck repairs, fuel, etc. at the end of the year the company profits around $8,000 by spending below budget. These earnings are divided up into end of the year bonuses, and a new sign for the company. One day your van is hijacked, with all the people’s goods. Police surround the van, but the hijackers get away. They take the van to a shed, remove all the goods and divide them up amongst themselves. They chop the van, and sell the parts. You collect your insurance money, and take out a loan to start your business over again. Your van is again hijacked and stolen within weeks of making deliveries again. Word has now spread, and other delivery trucks are now being stolen by essentially modern day bandits. Police cannot get control of the situation, and thieves continually have more success with experience. The cost of delivering goods has now quadrupled, and armed convoys are issued for deliveries. The modern day bandits, who now have a livelihood and support families with children, match with an equal show of force. They now infiltrate the warehouses storing goods and begin carrying out the deliveries themselves at ten times the original price, because businesses still have to operate, and they can make more money on the deliveries than by hawking the goods. Police have no means of fighting back, as they are ordered to stand down in any potential firefight in public space, and the warehouses are too well fortified and defended. Now imagine if this caught fire, and happened in towns and cities all around the country, since there are so few good jobs for young men to build careers from in order to support their families. Where does it go from here? You tell me. I for one consider the thin blue line to be better had than not.

Kinda hard to not be militarized when a lot of cops are vets.

There's way too much potential collateral damage in that picture. I can't really say much for the UPS driver and the older man that got killed in the process of killing the two bad guys, since thoughts and prayers aren't going to do a single thing. Hopefully the investigation is thorough and a situation like this will be avoided in the future, because the way it's being reported just makes the police officers involved look like villains rather than heroes.

Here is a pic of the directions the cops were shooting. If you watch any of the videos some of the cops were hiding behind vehicles with innocent people in them while firing. They fired 20p rounds http://imgur.com/gallery/ZvLexzj

Edited by HeadHunter: 12/7/2019 6:54:45 PMI think it's pretty disgusting that the law enforcement were use innocent bystanders as shields. I thought they were supposed to stand in front of them and protect them. Its florida though so what do you expect. To bad no random law abiding citizens fired back at the officers. Would have been well within their rights to do so if a cop ran up to their car shooting like rambo, using it and its occupants as a shield while even shooting through it. Would you think of it's just a cop doing his job. You would win that case in court. All the officers involved in this shooting should face criminal charges. Reminds me of another video I saw recently where a female officer, who is as fat as a cow goes into someone's house to arrests a man and winds up shooting and killing a mans mother and shooting herself. Never shot the bad guy, who really didnt need to be shot anyway but her fatass could barely walk so she couldnt take him down. What the hell are the standards for law enforcement officers now a days? Do you just have to be able to pull a trigger without thinking about the consequences like a terrorist?

2 RepliesYes 2 innocent lives were lost, but many more saved. Most people don't look at it that way however
-
I really ddon't see how this has to do with military. This has to do with how they engaged the situation not with the armaments they used.
-
5 RepliesAnd I'm sure you would have done everything right in that situation. I seem to remember some Jesus character saying something about throwing the first stone if you're perfect, I dunno though

4 RepliesI don't feel like you've given an accurate/honest breakdown here. It's terrible that the driver and an innocent bystander were killed, but it's not like the cops showed up and decided to light the van up. They surrounded the van and only started shooting after the hijackers started shooting at them. Maybe they could've handled it better, but there's also the chance that had they not acted more innocents would've died because the hijackers had already shot at the owner of the store they robbed so likely wouldn't have worried about killing anyone that was in their way.

Note to self: Dont get carjacked in Florida and ask the police for help.

Shootings happen every day where I live. It's normal now...

"Kill or be killed..." Usa/global mantra. No1 really cares. No one. Did they get enuff views and ratings? Thats what matters. Enuff with the fake compassion... Oh a murder happened down the street? Did cnn cover it? No? Boring. I had a coworker get murdered in broad daylight by gangbangers.... Did the news or cops follow up? Nope. Cuz it doesnt fit their narrative. Im sleepy.... So sleepy. Their hypnotizing me to believe they -blam!-ing care. Nope. Heres $10 and a view. Are you happy media? Doubt it. Tomorrow somebody else will fill your jingle cup im sure.... To quote drumpf... Sad.
