A lot of people have been saying that content is lacking in Shadowkeep and that it's a cash grab. I agree. But a lot of people don't realize this; so to show them why people are saying these things, we're going to do a comparison of Shadowkeep and Forsaken.
Forsaken has given us:
24 new exotic weapons and armor pieces.
3 brand new weapon/armor sets, including weapons and armor brought up from year 1 into Forsaken.
2 brand new locations, unlike anything we've seen before with multiple secrets waiting to be discovered.
The introduction of dungeons.
One of the biggest raids in the franchise.
The introduction of pinnacle weapons.
9 brand new supers.
A brand new weapon type, along with 2 new archetypes of existing weapon categories.
A brand new enemy faction, the Scorn.
A unique story both in terms of tone and structure, being that it was the first non-linear story in Destiny 2.
This was also priced at 40 bucks at launch.
Meanwhile, here is what Shadowkeep has given us:
9 new exotic weapons and armor pieces
3 "new" weapon sets, with only 2 new armor sets.
1 location, mostly rehashed from the original D1 moon.
A raid about the size CoS.
No new supers or subclasses.
Armor 2.0 (which can be access by literally everyone).
A run of the mill story with a lot of busy work to pad out the runtime.
No new weapon types or archetypes.
Only one new event which isn't even tied to the actual DLC, but tied to the season pass instead.
Costs 35 dollars, only 5 less than Forsaken.
Basically, people are saying that we get a fraction of the content of Forsaken with for only 5 dollars less. If we pay nearly 40 bucks for an expansion, we should expect a lot more than what Shadowkeep has to offer.
Also, it's worth noting that unlike Last Wish, which drastically altered the Dreaming City after its completion, Garden of Salvation has barely changed anything since the world's first team completed it.
EDIT: Now that I think about it, we can change the 9 new exotics to only 7 and the 3 new weapon sets to two since two exotics are behind the season of the undying and the weapon set is both behind the season AND mostly reskins.

I'd like to add that there is actually only one new armor set. The raid set is a re-skin, and Iron Banner is seasonal (season of Undying) so we quite literally only got one new armor set. No Hive sets. Not even a returning D1 set. We got moon flee market -blam!-, and reskinned tess set. Bravo.

5 RepliesEdited by TINY_RIIIIIIIIICK: 10/6/2019 8:15:15 AMWasn't Forsaken basically outsourced to another Activision associated company?

Armor 2.0 and the new pvp maps are free. It's not part of sk.

8 RepliesI don't think anyone was really expecting shadowkeep to be NEARLY as big as forsaken. In fact, I was expecting it to be about this size. It's comparable to rise of iron in almost every way, as are many of the statistics that you mentioned about shadowkeep. However, the reason that I enjoy this as much as I do, is because of the overhauls made to the games systems. The champions add variety to combat wherever they are, the artifact+battle pass add a whole new value to the xp grind (to the point where I actually feel excited picking up bounties), finishers bring a whole new level of depth to combat, and I feel confident saying the sandbox has never felt as good as it is. You could argue that these aren't the things we're paying for, but, well, technically, we are paying for them. It's just that everybody who doesn't buy shadowkeep gets them for free. And realistically, if you don't like the amount of content that's in shadowkeep, if it doesn't satisfy you, then don't buy it. As much as I hate having to tell people that, because it always sounds condescending, if you want bungie to give us more content then you need to vote with your wallet.

Edited by michael: 10/7/2019 12:36:44 AMI originally felt the same but to be fair this expansion is supposed to roll out content over time. I prefer it the way Forsaken did it; I remember the first day, being overwhelmed with months’ worth of loot to chase and activities to complete. It seems like not much now but I’m sure we will get our money’s worth once everything is rolled out just like with the annual pass. If they don’t build on much more from what they have now though, I will definitely be disappointed. s

Don’t forget an entirely new, one of a kind mode in Gambit. Now, it didn’t pan out that great, but that’s a pretty big chunk of content too.

I mean we did get heavy bow and the scout rifle heavy MG

3 RepliesPretty sure Forsaken was $60

8 RepliesWhat it lacks in size, it makes up for in quality and precedent. The lack of exotics and general loot is my biggest gripe but the game feel revitalised and if they can build on what they’ve started here, it’s looking promising. Also. 2 Strikes A Raid New 6 man activity Dungeon New location Finishers Campaign A new crucible map and 2 D1 maps These aren’t things to scoff at and definitely worth the money in my opinion. All of the PvE content is linked and feels like a genuine progression of the story not some tacked on story like HoW, CoO, Warmind and the Annual Pass. People want to see the negatives. Personally I’m happy with how things are going.

5 RepliesWhy are you comparing it to Forsaken? Forsaken = The Taken King. Shadowkeep = Rise of Iron or Warmind. This was a smaller scale expansion not a big Forsaken size expansion.

You can’t knock Shadowkeep for “reskins” and “rehashed” content but at the same time give a positive to Forsaken for just bringing forward Y1 weapons.

2 RepliesWait forsaken had 24 exotics? You're not counting the post seasons exotics right?

Its been fun so far for me. While it is not a ton of a new content, they also made a ton of foundational changes to the game. Remember that part of this launch was going F2P, Cross Save, moving to Steam, revamping leveling and power grind, Armor 2.0. We also get the Shadowkeep content and seasonal content. Its actually a ton of dev work preparing for this release. No matter what Bungie does its never enough. There is so much more to do in D2 year 3 than D1 year 3 its staggering. Even though they have had to dig themselves out of the shit storm that was vanilla D2. Bungie’s problem is they need to pick a direction and stick with it. Once they do, they can build upon things and not keep reinventing the damn wheel.

1 ReplyYou Forgot that Forsaken brought us Gambit, too, which turns out to have been functioning incorrectly for the entire time it has existed. If you didn't know, PvP damage values were being used for PvE enemies, so all the mobs seemed a little beefier than usual. I thought that that was just the way gambit was supposed to be, but I guess I was wrong.

5 RepliesSo 35 for way less. Now the season isnt over yet but the #1 thing I was displeased with is the number of exotics and bungie didnt even buff or change any of the old exotics. One of the major reasons I play is because of the unique exotics and the combinations that can be made with them and bungie barely gave us anything new. I do know this..if there is another expansion next fall for d2 I wont be buying it if it's this small.
