So I started the game a couple months ago. Got some pretty decent gear and figured I'd give raiding a shot.
I tried Leviathan last night via LFG Destiny app. Found one with a really good guy leading it. Unfortunately people kept dropping out so we called it quits after we completed the dogs.
Tried to do Scourge today. Found a fireteam via app, told them I never ran it before, it was all good. We got to the last part, where we kill the walking robot dude. They walked me through the debuff thing and where to stand, I thought I had it but I guess I was in the wrong place and we wiped a couple times right before we killed the boss. I ended up getting verbally berated and yelled at for a few minutes so I just left since it was awkward afterwards.
Now I am not complaining and I definitely understand their frustration. Is it just me that's awful at raids? I watched videos on how to do it and I feel like I'm a good listener, but I think I am just a lost cause. Scourge is supposed to be the easiest raid, mechanics-wise, and if I can't do this I assume I am SOL for the rest of them.
For those of you who had trouble before, how did you get better? I truly would appreciate any and all advice you may have.

Happens dude. Just practice. The order generally from left right back is CAP. (C A P)

Edited by Doctor_Roidberg: 9/8/2019 11:02:09 AMStudy up. Rick Galactus does very comprehensible “Raid Guides for Dummies” that simplifies a lot of things. As for the final boss of Scourge, basically think of it as being three teams of two. All in three different areas. Depending on what your buff is, you’re going to go to that designated spot (C, A, or P) with your partner who has the same buff. If you’re too close to someone with a different buff got too long, you are diagnosed with dead. Get back in there Guardian :)👍🏻

It's your first time, yeah you'll be bad at it. I guess it depends on how many times you tried the debuffs. If you screw up the positions for the debuffs 3times, yeah that's fine. Screw it up 6+ times you're just not paying attention and i make sure to tell people that. But then again, I've played with people who had 50+ clears and still screw it up, I'm not sure how, but they do

1 ReplyEdited by Sweet Lew 88: 9/7/2019 3:29:53 PMPractice. Need lots of practice. Also try to remove distractions from around you. My friend always looks at his cell phone during the explanation so he's always 4-5 wipes behind the whole group. I don't mind helping people in raids, but this is one of the reasons why I would not want raid matchmaking. Imagine 6 people not knowing what to do.

The last time I did a raid.... Tony Stark was still alive....

You're alright. It is all about repetition in most cases; the more you do it the better you'll get. You shouldn't have been berated for any mistake. People take themselves too serious. It's a video game, have fun. I know that some people have lost that concept.

1 ReplyI hate raid mechanics and have done since kings fall came out. It punishes poor players who actually just want to be part of the team and experience a raid in general, now all you get is KWTD and I’ll check or must have completions or will kick. That’s why only a small amount of people raid these days.

One of the reasons I'm hesitant to raid via LFG. I don't wanna waste anyone's time while I learn shit.

1 ReplyI got better by practicing, but when it comes to raiding I’m a fast learner. Probably took a few more tries than what you did to get it down. As long as you listen to how to do it, and check what strats the team want to do you should be fine.

Same The thing is we need to continue practicing doing the raid and learn from the mistakes And try to remember the steps But the problem is finding a group/clan that teaches and continue to help out, I did the leviathan raid once because a fire team carried me through it but I tried to learned the mechanics and saw a bunch of videos but I still didn’t get many details of each encounter, so I tried again and my team got fed up and they started to leave, it sucks I never had that problem either with VoG up to Kings Fall raid back in D1, they had simple raid mechanics. But it all went downhill for me with Wrath of the Machine raid when they added new annoying mechanics with the last boss, after that I just gave up.

That sounds like a pretty awful first experience with raids. You're best having a patient group rather than people berating you when you don't quite get it first time. Don't let it put you off though. Instead of lfg'ing it, why not post saying you're a first timer on raids so could do with the help of a patient sherpa (or 2) and go from there. Everyone that raids has been in your situation so don't feel bad about it.

What did u expect? U tried scourge one time and didnt complete it. Try again. This is the same thing that happened to me. It might seem easy watching the guides and everything but it only gets easy when u do it over and over again.

That's exactly the reason why I (along with more than 90% of people playing this game) don't do Raids! There are actually very few people doing Raids.
-
It just takes a ton of practice, if you find some people who want to practice with you then friend them and just run it every week until you have it down. No one is good at first.

You need to pay more attention. The group usually should have coordinated the 3 buffs for insurrection. And you need to look out for when you are tethered

2 RepliesNah a lot of people are bad. It's just the little things. Using primaries Vs wizards/knights. Saying yes I understand when you clearly don't. Not knowing what left and right is as an adult. Not being able to use your jump normally while it's the only character you play 100 hours on. Killing yourself with a rocker launcher, while you know it does self damage and you need to fire it from a distance. Maybe I am personally attacking a lot of people here, but it's true. Raids are meant to be challanging, if you can't do the basics maybe improve on them first before joining a raid group?

Edited by Swiftchao: 9/7/2019 7:24:37 AMIf you using lfg I always recommend researching what to do beforehand (going in blind is usually a bad idea) till you get a good grasp of what is happening like watch a how to guide then watch the normal encounter and apply what you learned from the guide don't just do one of these and skip the other (unless you do one of these like 10x). otherwise find a clan/group of friends/Sherpas that are ok with wiping a couple of times to help you get the hang of things experience is important especially if you know your not a fast learner Most experienced groups i've met on lfg only really care about finishing and if you become a hinderance cause you have no idea whats going on since your new to the raid they may kick or leave If your unsure about anything ALWAYS ASK for clarification <--- very important AND if you still struggle ask someone to give you constant directions as you play sometimes hand holding is ok

I would always recommend watching a tutorial or two on the raid before jumping into it so you can at least familiarize yourself with it. I've only done the Leviathan (or any D2 raid for that matter) once but managed to learn the mechanics quickly because I watched a tutorial beforehand.

I do a lot of sherpa runs. Biggest issues find is some people aren’t expecting the the mechanics and think it’s good enough to just kill stuff or they didn’t understand the explanation full but are afraid to ask again. Depends on the mechanics too, some learn different types of mechanics faster than others. Learning style too, some people can get it by listening or watching, others need to actually try it for it all to make sense. They shouldn’t have berated you for messing it up like that, further/different explanations would have been far more constructive. Please don’t let that scare you off raiding. As long as you can listen and are willing to learn, you’re at a great starting point for raids. Personally, IMO finding a sherpa for your first runs is the best experience. LFG teams are a crapshoot (usually more crap than anything else). I’d offer to teach you but PC is the only platform I don’t play on. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions about mechanics or want tips, etc

Watch youtube tutorials or me on twitch I raid a lot with my clan and we have great strats that are easy to learn. I do all the "hardest" jobs so it can help you learn the mechanics, what weapons to use and what subclass to use.
