Anybody else feel like Bungie has stealth abandoned D2?

With the "annual pass" being so bereft of new content, I get the distinct feeling they view D2 internally as "fixed" with the release of forsaken, or as fixed as it's going to get. They have done enough to placate people, but they know big numbers of players or dollars spent are never coming back to this game. Much as Bioware decided ME:A was a lost cause and pulled everyone to work on Anthem (at least they were straight up about it) I feel Bungie has done the same here. The annual pass is no more than what we had in D1 with the "Live" team I think they were called? A small team to give the impression this game is still being serviced by the devs. At this point it appears all possible resources are on D3 to my eyes. Maybe this is good news for D3, but it's certainly not good news for D2 which we are expected to play for 2 more years.

  • My friends suckered me back into this game for Forsaken. I'll admit, I had some good times, but it was entirely too fleeting. The way they are time-gating these forges and TLW is just horrible. I don't know how I could ever justify spending another cent on a product made by Bungie.

No, someone at Activision just had enough of Bungie pissing away tens of millions and delivering nothing but a mediocre product, and decided to cut their funding. Yes, they are working on D3, obviously, but that doens't mean D2 is abandoned until it's launch. It's just that they no longer have the same funding they did during D1s life-cycle because D2 failed to deliver. After Forsaken failed to substantially boost D2 numbers, pouring more money into it is pointless. You have to understand how Activision thinks. It's a business first and foremost and they are obligated to run it as a business because they are beholden to stockholders who do not give a single crap about the industry, or the product. Only how much return on their investment they get. The gaming industry is in a free-fall. Expect layoffs and downsizing everywhere, the idiots in charge ran this ship to the ground.

        • Right now I think they’re still on like New Years break or something. And who knows? Maybe they’re working on something that’ll be announced after January 8th when Niobe Labs comes out. I’m honestly curious what the Labs will be. Dungeon perhaps?

Personally think the reason the game feels abandoned is that they refuse to evolve. D1 was great fun after the first couple of DLC. But by the time d2 was released we had a lot of content on D1. Now obviously we weren't gonna get the same amount of content but they could still have fixed some of the stuff that made people still play D1. PvP. They didn't. They tried to patch over a few cracks and reduce the team sizes, but it was still awful for lag and matchmaking. They tried to improve it, but failed. They took away trials, which a lot of pvp players enjoyed. They brought in pinnacle weapons where people would actually pay others to get for them, often by manipulating the games. The pinnacle weapons are some of the best in the game, which means most players will be at a disadvantage as they will never be able to get them. They brought in gambit which on paper looked great. But poor matchmaking and connectivity means it's just as hated as PvP, if not more. They used to same broken system as they did in D1 and frankly people had enough. I don't think they can fix the game so they look the other way and bring out more content. Problem is black armoury needs to be refreshed each week. Having a 2 week break literally leaves people kicking their heels. The rewards for the raids just aren't that enticing to grind for and frankly I'm finding it hard to even put the game on anymore.

Almost 2M players a day. Same as it was during Forsaken. ME:A never had those numbers. Many games don't have those numbers... Also, the people working on Anthem are not the same people that made ME:A. Do some research. And, the live team makes events like The Dawning, and other seasonal events. The Annual Pass was made by Bungie with help from Blizzard teams. The Annual Pass was made so we don't have content droughts like we did in D1. Common sense must be a lost characteristic for you.

I have no real facts and figures, but it seems to me, based on comments, that: There were a lot of problems and horrible mistakes made with D2. Few were really fixed, and 99% of the fixes were just glitches. NO real game play complaints were addressed. Everyone knows the list, no need to repeat it here; Forsaken came along with more of the same horrible mistakes, and the veer towards PvP spectator became more obvious; I understand the take-up of the Annual Pass was not as expected or hoped for. To mention a few complaints: Mods! Nothing was done! Nothing has been done, and nothing will be done; Mediocre Exotics. Nothing done etc; Duplicate Exotics. Nothing done etc; Masterworks Cores. Nothing done, unless you count the name change; Requirement for Enhancement Cores for infusion. Nothing done etc. The dismal - dismal - percentage of players who complete Raids has never, to my knowledge, been a goal of Bungie to do something about. There have been many suggestions made to have easier less rewarding (loot wise) versions so players can learn and move up. Bungie's cacky minded solution? Introduce even harder versions! Now, with this record, I don't really want to go through the whole rigmarole again, because, I am certain that D3 will be the same. Features introduced that Bungie has no clue whatsoever will be appealing to players. And, if the features aren't appealing, and the complaints start again, Bungie will have no clue on what to do. Feedback contributores desperatelytrying to make somehing of the game with a few fixes, all to fall on deaf ears. Cozmo's, "That's a good idea! I'll take it to the Developers," is showing to be nothing but bullshit on his part, or the developers. I don't want to almost endlessly read suggestions, complaints and feedback that never, ever, seems to be addressed. I didn't buy the Annual Pass. My present rather pathetic goal is to get to level 600, and that most likely be it. I've said it before somewhere in here that the problem is not the Game, the problem is the people who write it, and their inability to pull their own head out of their own ass, and see clearly what works and what doesn't. Can someone explain why I can get a jillion Boughs in the Dreaming City- they're freaking everywhere! - but I'm always running back to Io to get Phaseglass Needles?

                  • To be fair to Bungie I think it's becoming obvious that it's Activision who are looking to dump this money pit. The original design plans for this game by the guys now working on D3 have done exactly what I warned Bungie they would do. I think my exact words were "You've burned us too many times with the poor design choices and anti player practices and once the trust is gone it's gone". This sadly proved 100% true with many players not returning to D2 for Forsaken and many simply ignoring the season pass all together. The sad part is that even with all of this Bungie continue to stealth nerf items and hold back much needed quality of life changes to coincide with each new season pass drop. If they had any true intention of winning fans back then this is pretty much the exact opposite of what they should now be doing. Example would be Xur not selling Forsaken exotics yet. Timegated content that players have zero ability to get yet even though there's no technical reason aside from artificially slowing the players progress. The list goes on. What Bungie don't seem to take into consideration is that we need at least a month with the full kit of new exotics before they drop anymore. Players want to enjoy and work out how best to use these exotics. Take 1000 voices. So few people even have that because the rng on it is so idiotic yet, what is arguably a hot fix change to add in the upgraded drop chance on each activity completion (as in the nightfall loot) has remained missing from the game. The story with the dreaming city is now just plain dragging and less and less of us give a damn what is happening because it's like one of those soap operas. I fully expect to log in one day and see a notice pop up saying "Mara Sov will now be played by the actor who plays Shaxx"

                    • All of you that are upset with BA/Annual pass don’t see it for what it’s purpose is and what it actually brings to the game and how important it is for it’s continued survival. Does anyone remember how great ttk was? Like D1 felt amazing during that time and all of the content lasted a good 8 or so weeks before it started to get a little stale. By week 12 I was done and ready for the next piece of content. And then week 16 went by...week 20...24,28,42, 52 weeks before we got any significant piece of content between year 2 and 3. I know there was some minor updates and events but they had no content at all. I stopped playing After week 12. And the biggest drought in D1s history killed the spirit of the game and any reason to invest time into it. When ROI dropped it was good for awhile and the major update that followed with all of the raids was great. But that whole damn year was lost. Forsaken launched and brought with it amazing content, some of the best we’ve ever had and I still enjoy doing lw 5+ times a week doing sherpas and helping other people out with quests and such. It’s been 16 weeks and only some of forsaken content is beginning to get a bit stale. But hey, now I have something else. Now I’ve got black armory, the forges, new gear, new weapons, a new raid, and more stuff still to come in January and February to add enough spice to keep me interested from week to week, day to day. And then there’s jokers wild, which will have weekly quests, a new spring event, exotics, gambit gameplay changes, and more. And then penumbra which is genuinely interesting and I’m very excited to see what kind of raid and content comes out of the mystery box it’s setting up to be. Now between year 2 and year 3 of D2, I can continue to play the game instead of give it up and lose interest entirely. Without the annual pass, the game would suffer...hard. 9 times out of 10 I will criticize bungie for decisions they’ve made, but for this I understand the bigger picture of why they’re doing what they’re doing with this content.
