I've been complaining since the release of Destiny 1 that I can't play the endgame content because Bungie decided not to add matchmaking to raids. Every time I mention anything in comments or forums, I get responses on how matchmaking would completely ruin raids. I'm just curious as to how this could be true. Here's an example. You are entering a raid with five of your friends, and matchmaking connects you to nobody because your fireteam is full. This has no effect on your game. Here's a second example. You are playing shorthanded, and matchmaking fills your hole with somebody who may or may not be competent, have a mic, speak your language, care about winning, etc. Is this person really going to ruin your experience? Are you going to run out of team lives and get a big "game over" banner on your screen? Will someone please explain how matchmaking will ruin your gaming experience. Thanks.

1 ReplyLook what's occurring with the forge. Lol. That being said, it wont effect those can simply matchmake using the forum. As it only takes a couple minutes. So, if people truly want it, it really will not effect the dedicated raiders. However, those who do use it, I can already see will immiedetly complain about how bad their teamates are. I almost kinda want it to happen just to read the complaints tho...

Matchmaking wouldn't actually effect anything about your raiding experience that you wouldn't already experience with lfg, or fireteams. Really, if anything it would speed the process up for raiding, because rather than having to wait and find someone on lfg, the game would automatically bring in a person for you, unless they made it like comp. Knowing bungie, that's what they'd do.

4 RepliesI thought raids already had matchmaking? I thought that was the entire point of guided games?
-
You’re dumb. Plain and simple. Just think about it.
-
Using your second example, what if the spot that opened up on your fireteam was caused because one of your friends had a connection glitch. Now a random is assigned before he can get back. And that random doesn't want to leave. What can you do to get your friend back? Go to orbit and start over. Very nice. I don't have a problem with matchmaking for everything as long as it's optional. And that includes not filling fireteam spots with randoms if I so wish.

7 RepliesEdited by Noble Six: 12/25/2018 6:45:08 AMTo those who think matchmaking will “ruin” raids, if they brought back VOG in 2019 and it was all the same but had matchmaking do you think it a] would be ruined and b] would be too difficult for the community to beat?
-
I was one asking for it too. However, after my experience with Forge matchmaking, I don’t think I’d ever use raid matchmaking. I imagine it being a futile and truly infuriating experience. Nightfall matchmaking is another story though. Why that hasn’t been implemented yet I just don’t know.
-
I would never use it. Would fully expect it to be a shit show. Filling up this and other forums with constant complaints. There are several things bungie has proven to be absolutely horrible at. One of those is match making. Whether its pvp, gambit, or now the forge, they are always an epic fail.

Edited by fordybag323z: 12/25/2018 11:24:59 PMHeres the third example. You run into the most asshole of all assholes. Three decide to not use a mic. And one decides to attempt an afk get carried. Now you understand? Or still puzzled
-
Have you played solo Gambit? Take that, and apply it to raids.
-
To be fair, we,ve gone so long without matchmaking in raids its unlikely they would add it to the raids we currently have, they may do it in the future but i worry they may have to scale it back and make it easier to accommodate for the fact that matchmade teams will be running it, for example the forges which thankfully have matchmaking but are very simple in design because of it, if people have been with destiny since vanilla and simply choose not to use lfg/forums/guided games/any third party means of finding a team/clan, adding matchmaking to raids wont suddently fix all those promlems, that being said i do support them adding an in-game means of finding a team/clan.

They should have an experienced tab and a newbie tab and it’ll be fine

1 ReplyConsidered a single person can easily cause a wipe and some ppl want to try the raid with less ppl. Also did you not see the shit show with forge matchmaking? If ppl can’t handle something as simple as the forge, I can only imagine the raid. Also what if one of our teammates gets kicked/disconnected and then a random drops in? It’s so easy to lfg/create a group for any end game material. Using the companion app it also directly invites them into your fireteam. It’s so easy. You’re just making excuses if you need matchmaking to do anything in this game.
-
I personnaly think. they should have weekly raid sections that drop lower loot but allow people to practice the raid parts so the intimidation aspects would be less for new people to queue up a full raid
-
It wouldn't.
-
Guided games is match making light edition. It doesn't affect the game adversly. Doesn't ruin my game doesn't ruin your game. Don't use it if you don't need it. But if you need it...it's there. Genius...

3 RepliesPeople can't do public events, and don't understand strike mechanics. How the hell do you think they are going to be able to do a raid.

I've been complaining since the release of Destiny 1 that I can't play the endgame content because Bungie decided not to add matchmaking to raids.
The reason you cant play endgame has nothing to do with bungie, you make the decision to either not add people who are interested in raiding or cant take the 5 minutes to lfg for a group while you're about to embark on what is likely at least an hour experience.
Every time I mention anything in comments or forums, I get responses on how matchmaking would completely ruin raids.
Indeed, not only is it a waste of dev time that would not be utilized (especially seeing as guided games is widely considered a failure - and that has 5 friends and just 1 random!)
I'm just curious as to how this could be true. Here's an example. You are entering a raid with five of your friends, and matchmaking connects you to nobody because your fireteam is full.
Will someone please explain how matchmaking will ruin your gaming experience. Thanks.
D2 raids often require several or all team members to successfully run the mechanics, often with callouts, if randoms in strikes and gambit are raged about what do you think would be the outcome in raids? I'll tell you, hours upon hours at the same checkpoint never making progress because the randoms you're getting are clueless or bad. Trolling, afk players, clueless gamers who clicked on the new notification they got without having any idea what to do, those that dont speak at all or dont speak your language, the guy looking for a carry while contributing zero, the guy who keeps running up to the boss or grabbing relic and cant use it or is using bad gear or is too low light, theres tons and tons of reasons why we dont have it. Imagine just leviathan. Wiping at dogs for hours because the random keeps getting caught or isnt shooting the spore Never standing on a plate by baths or getting farmed by the bathers or dealing no damage to the lanterns or hot calling out which symbol they have by prestige baths Dying at the start of the last gauntlet run where everyone has to run through (I've had the same guy die 3 times when we got up to that part - res is way back at the finish line and 30 seconds isnt enough time to cross the entire arena before shared fate wipes you), not killing his psion, dying on their run, not meleeing their psion, not shooting the correct triangle since they cant hear or speak Not calling out thier symbol by callus, meleeing the wrong psion, not stepping on a plate to help with damage, stepping on a different plate then the rest of the team, using a sidearm and doing trash damage, etc Let alone prestige or challenge requirements, all in all it would be an awful experience that A) Would be a waste of dev time as it wouldn't be utilized. B) Leave a negative impression and memory on players who try. Raids are fine as is, if you have friends who are interested great, if you make friends that are interested great, if you take 5 minutes to lfg a group that's your speed great. Bungie isnt stopping you from playing endgame, your laziness is. I'll never understand why someone would be willing to spend and hour or more on the raid but wouldn't be interested in spending 5 minutes before it and have a far better chance to find a group that's got the same idea
-
Since day one of the first game people have been afk or doing personal objectives in strikes, 20% of the time for me. I don’t raid often and would love to more, done two nightfalls since forsaken dropped. Still don’t want matchmaking for either of them.
-
The nightfall could MAYBE do matchmaking. But raids? Absolutely not. Most people are too stupid to work a strike correctly. Every single time I run the taken one nobody knows to pass the orb and just one shot the enemies. And that's just a basic mechanic, you think these morons could figure out which plate to stand on or what antumbra means?

27 RepliesEdited by Stives09: 12/22/2018 2:56:55 PMIt's simply that a truly matchmade raid group stands about a 0.00000001% chance of success. If you want proof, play about 5 strikes. When I do strikes, I usually end up with a kill number that Is about double both of my teammates combined, all while moving faster through the map than them and doing ~75% of the boss damage. In an average to good raider at best, not elite, and since strikes lack true mechanical depth, we are only talking about gunplay efficacy. The average player is unbelievably incapable of aiming down range and putting bullets into faces with half the efficacy that would be required to complete a raid encounter, and that's without including the intense mechanics of a raid. And all of that ignores the requirement of communication. LFG groups fail more often than not even on the most simple of encounters, and those sites are filled with generally more hardcore players with generally better loadouts, being selective about who they invite and applying filters. Imagine removing all of that and putting a fireteam together consisting of 6 of the guys that end strikes with 16 kills, while using their edge transit, with a precision ratio of 0%, and with their lack of social ability. There's no chance that group makes any progress. The obvious counter argument to this is "let them fail and you keep putting together your groups the way you have been." So, at absolute best, without even considering this beyond the surface, were removing the demographic that is typically the best raiders from the matchmaking pool. But why give these players the opportunity to do something we're nearly guaranteeing they fail? Yeah they get a chance to do something they wouldn't otherwise do, but they're given the worst scenario possible. Is anyone going to come out of that experience with a good attitude? "Yeah it was a complete and utter failure and embarrassment, but at least I got a shot"...... maybe, maybe a few. Most will be unhappy and demoralized, to the point that it may affect the fun that they have with every other aspect of the game. Many will come to the forums and whine about how the raid is too hard. Ultimately, the worst thing that could come of it is that Bungie could bow to the inevitable whining and could simplify the raid in an attempt to make it more accessible to the casual groups, and that would ruin the experience of overcoming a challenge for those of us that enjoy that.
-
Not at all. Most of us who have raided know matchmaking in raids won't work. That doesn't mean it shouldn't be added to EVERY other piece of content in the game.....which it still hasn't been and won't be because that adds to the mystique of parts of the play. Also promotes the end game friend game aspect they are big on pushing to draw in players.
-
It won’t affect mine, but not only is it a waste of Bungie’s time, it’s a waste of time for the poor souls that go in actually wanting to participate in a raid
-
The main thing is that they need communication and like it or not, you don’t communicate with 95/100 people you matchmaker with.
-
2 RepliesRaids are not meant to be played with randoms. 😂😂😂😂😂 try playing a last wish raid with no communication and see if you don’t wipe 1000000000000 times
-
The answer is really simple. It would absolutely destroy the experience. It would be a nightmare. It’d end up like Volundr. Under leveled people using trash gear and not knowing what to do. Also, communication is required for all of the raids, basically, and most people who would attempt them through matchmaking wouldn’t have a mic or communicate. LFG might be bad, but that would be god awful.
